How Much Smartphone You Should Buy?

Ғылым және технология

I talk about about much you should spend on a smartphone ideally and avoid buying smartphones on EMI as smartphones depreciate in value very quickly and have almost no value after a year. I personally also share my thoughts how much I would be willing to spend on smartphones.

I actually saw that Smartphone marketing hype video first and came here to view this one..both these videos are eye-opening videos especially for people in India. You are one of the oldest KZread reviewer and I remember in 2011 you reviewed Samsung S plus which you had just purchased for personal use. You replied to me at that time when I commented that I had bought the phone for 20k. You asked me from where I had bought it..i said on ebay but you bought it for 24k or something i guess. My salary was around 15k at that time and I realized I made a mistake by purchasing such a costly phone even though I liked it very much and was excited about it but I made up for my mistake by using it for nearly 3-1/2 years he he..and I only needed to change it because of RAM issue (it had only 512 MB RAM as you know). Nowadays my budget is under 20k even though my salary has increased to 40k and I make it a point to use at least 2 to 3 years. I will never make the same mistake of purchasing a phone which is more than my monthly salary. Guys, remember, it's not worth it. We should stop this Indian mentality just to show-off our phones. A good all-rounder phone in the range of 10k to 20k is more than enough for your daily needs.

@@sajathmenon what you realised I recently acted the same way. I bought Redmi Note 8 6gb/128gb. I'm damn happy for its purpose ie for email,. whatsapp, calls, memory, occasional photography. I could have bought easily 50-60k phone but settled with 13k phone even though my salary is 5x of what I bought.

Im thinking to buy phone which is around 3times my salary, although I use a phone for over 2 years, I only buy new one when they are no more in good working condition. i was in a dilemma whether to invest that much for a phone through emi or to buy a mid range and save the money for other aspects. After watching the two videos the marketing hype and this one, now i came to a clarity that not to buy phones if you don't have enough money in hand...Thankyou sir for your valuable videos..

And just to put what he said into context for the Indian audience: An average software engineer in the US earns about 4000 dollars a month (2k fortnightly for 1-4 years of experience). The most expensive iPhone is still less than half a month’s salary. To compete, Indian engineers pay 3 to 4 times their monthly income for the same phone. (30k a month * 3 for a phone worth ~90k) Honestly, get phones that are close to half your monthly salary and use them for 2+ years. My 2 cents. Awesome video man! Much appreciated!

Totally agree. Even my views are similar when I have conversations with friends on this topic. EMI should used ccarefully as it gives a false sense of buying power. I am using a 3 year old MI Note 5 Pro and it's serving me well. There are issues with it but nothing major and can possibly use it for another year. We are blessed to get some really kickass mobile devices in value for money price range of 15-20K.

Someone had to say this! I'm very glad it came from someone like you. I'd say if someone has 60k to spend on phone, spend 20k on the phone and rest on a vacation with your family. Ten years down the lane, you wouldn't remember which phone you had, but you would definitely remember the vacation you took. Few other points I want to highlight: 1. People should spend more on the experience rather than the product. 2. US made and imported products attract a lot of taxes. All Apple devices cost less in US than here. Also, the earning power here is significantly lower than US. Young or old, rich or poor, buy a mid spec phone. Use it thoroughly until you receive at least three service updates and four security updates. And when the phone manufacturers declare they'll not be able to support your device, only then buy the latest mid spec phone. Tech reviewers must do some CSR activities like this and inform the audience that holding on to your 2 year old phone is sexy too and not just buying phones frequently.

Very good advice, sir. Bought my OnePlus 5T in full for 30K when it came out in 2017, and still rocking it to this day for almost 4 years now, I might even use it for another 2 years or so. I don't see any reason to go out and purchase phones on EMI to upgrade to the latest and greatest unless the current phone I'm using is completely unusable or broken to the point it would cost more to repair it than getting a new one. It's best to save a sufficient amount of money to buy the one you can afford at full price.

Same I had realme 5 pro and I was unhappy I used to watch this to make myself happy but once I forgot about this video and bought galaxy M21 and regretted it big time now my mom is using the M21 and she is loving it cuz upgrade from her old redmi note 7 in every way so yeah I am happy with my realme 5 pro which is 1.3 years old and I am gonna hold onto it for a while probably 4 more months and upgrade this when it's officially old enough for upgrading

This is the one of the most honest videos and completely agree with him. I am not even into tech unless I need to buy something. I research when I buy but I would be a subscriber.
