    Jess you shouldn’t listen to anyone, you do you charge what you want. And it also depends where you live and what you’re customers are willing to pay. I live in Florida and I provide a service when I detail and car or big truck. I give the customer what they want. And if they want to pay for a one step correction I tell them what it will cost. and same thing for ceramic coating .Jess all that matters is you enjoy your time working and you feel good on your paycheck .

    I've been detailing for about a year, but it took me about 6 months or so to really get rid of the imposter syndrome by understanding how to operate this business efficently and effectivly. I try to hit a minimum of $50 per hour,. Since i've gotten the right equipement like a steamer, air compressor, pet hair removal piece etc. I rarely go over 2.5 hours for sedans. This works for the customers and myself becuase most don't want to pay for a 4-5 hours detail, and I defiently don't want to do a 5 hour detail. I'd much rather do two 2.5 hr. details than one 5 hour detail and move on, but thats just me.

    I love that mindset! What you charge and the work you do is definitely all mindset and getting past that imposter syndrome is huge! I am definitely learning to get faster and let go of over-doing my work but there’s definitely satisfaction in my client’s being mind-blown at the end of every detail haha BUT I can absolutely see the value in getting more cars booked in a day with a 2.5 hour detail. I’d love to get there!

    @@DetailWithJess oh btw, I still charge at least $150-175 per sedan. I say $50/hr minimum mainly for maintenance because those usually take about 1 hr. I would definitely learn headlight restoration, it's super easy and customers are almost always willing to pay for it. I charge about $40 per headlight. You do need a polisher though. Luke Wilson has some good videos for headlight restoration. Good luck!

    Your doing the right thing with your pricing. I wanna charge more but I feel like I have to build up my clientele. And earn the right to charge more. I've noticed that most of my customers pay attention to how long I take to detail their car, and if you really dial the detail in and not just rush through it. In my experience they are more likely to tip. I'd rather do 1 car a day @ 6-7 hours then 2 or 3 cars a day taking 2.5 hours on each car. That's someone who doesn't take pride in their work. Either that or dam their super fast and like taking short cuts lol

    So nice to hear that! A lot of people comment asking me what I’m even doing by spending 5 hours on a full interior and exterior detail..I’ve been able to knock 30-60 mins from my starting time and I’m sure I’ll continue to refine it, but I take A LOT of pride in the pristine details I do. And I’ve had multiple comments from my clients who have said “I’ve had a detail done before, but not like this!” So I truly think it matters at this stage in my business. Keep it up!!!

    @DetailWithJess There's 3 types of detailers in this business. You have the get money fast guy who cuts corners and uses the customers lack of knowledge against them. Which is wrong in my opinion. Then There's the car washers that charge $30 a car but do more damage than good. Then there's us the detailers who take pride in doing a job correctly and try to wow the customer. It's not always about the money. Doing the right thing will bring wealth.

    Great information and thought process. I also found that towards the end of the year in the Midwest, people want to get their cars prepared for winter. I’ve had numerous conversations with customers about what I do personally to care for my own vehicles. Those conversations ended up into a higher priced detail. I also gain maintenance clients that want their vehicles detailed in the middle of winter which is somewhat uncommon in brutal Midwest winter months.

    That’s awesome. I’m already having tons of people talk about their “fall details” and it’s a great time to get spring clients to book again. That is brutal in the Midwest! I am in CT and we have the same winters. What do you suggest to prepare vehicles for winter?

    @@DetailWithJess I’ve been playing around with some Vonixx products and so far I like the V80 synthetic sealant topped with Blend spray wax. Wheels usually Tech Choice 582 and maintain with Gyeon wet coat or similar spray and rinse product. Interior I suggest rubber floor mats so you’re not battling wet carpet mats. Then the importance of keeping door jambs, wheel wells etc. cleaned on a regular basis. The salt they use here is terrible.

    Going by the packages, you’re going straight to sealant after clay. Don’t clay paint without polishing, clay is a mild abrasive that will leave fine swirling behind. Also, get accredited by any of the big name ceramic coating brands and start doing coatings, higher margin per job.

  • @DetailWithJess

    @DetailWithJess

    Жыл бұрын

    I honestly have never booked that package for that reason, and also believe the same, but then saw so many detailers doing clay bars with just a spray sealant and saying that swirling was so minimal. Regardless, yes! I am actually getting certified and going for training in two weeks!

  • @AJ56

    @AJ56

    @@DetailWithJess don’t listen to those guys, I can tell you from personal experience, you take even a mild blue clay to super soft black Honda or Porsche paint and you will leave visible marring behind. Unless the paint is trashed to begin with, if it’s heavily swirled already you won’t see much. On harder clearcoats you will have less visible swirling. You want to get certified and start paint corrections and ceramic, it’ll add a valuable upsell and higher margins per job. Good luck with the training!

    @@mak259 every soft black paint I’ve worked on (hundreds at this point), my employees have ever worked on, swirled by just repeated wiping with super soft microfibres, let alone a decon towel which is a mild abrasive. A suggestion When using the air gun, tornador for example, use a 3m face mask and eye protection. You don’t know what’s in the carpet that you are shooting air without seeing it, it can shoot back to you…to your eyes. Also, you don’t want to breath what’s in the carpet…yes, some places ask the owners to remove anything that can hurt you, needless for example You don’t know your client until something arises, then you will know them Better safe than sorry Protect yourself, you are for the long run, start since the beginning doing it Yes, it’s uncomfortable but it’s your health

    I’d love to do a video on this because I get asked a lot. I think the biggest factor for me is that I talk about my details and my love for my clients on my social media at least 4x a week. I create reels for every single detail I do and I share those on my FB business page and I reshape them on my personal page. Every one client I get, on average, leads me to 2 referral clients (and no, I do not pay out for any referrals). I also respond to every single phone call and message immediately and my booking process is SO simple on my website. But I’d be happy to make a video on this. For me though, it’s 100% been my posts on social media, asking for the sale, immediate responses and amazing results in my details.

Yvan has been in the detailing industry for 40+ years and has a ton of knowledge gems that he shares on his channel, whether it's efficiency tips or just general business tips. My other recommendation would be to grab a copy of Profit First by Mike Michalowicz. I don't detail fulltime, but I try to follow the guidance of that book for anything I do for detailing and it helps me ensure my taxes are covered, there's cash available for products/improvements when they're needed, and I am getting paid for the work I do.
