Andy Kirby performs a pedal-assist range test, using moderate power levels and encountering occasional hills. He documents various checkpoints and the corresponding battery voltage. At 6.1 miles, the battery voltage drops by three volts. Andy continues the test, reaching 10 miles and then turning around. The battery voltage remains stable at 37 volts for a significant portion of the test. He faces challenging terrain, discusses puncture prevention, and experiences changing weather conditions. Despite the obstacles, the e-bike covers a total distance of 18.6 miles with a battery voltage of 33 volts, showcasing an impressive range for this setup. The video concludes by highlighting the bike's performance and suggesting that 15-20 miles can be achieved depending on factors such as weight.

That track playing, is that Hellen on the vocals? It might be a good idea to do a teardown of the hub motor, I've had a Swytch motor and the outer ring gear is plastic, I've had to 3d print a new one, even at that, I'm looking to cast one out of metal. Just interested to see the build quality on the gears?

Well done and good luck Andy - new subscriber... Havent really ridden a bike for 20 years or more.. This really got me excited.. Now I want to move to a country that doesn't rain all the time but hey ho, cant be too choosy :) _ I agree with comments on the other video, a screen you can see would be awesome and the ability for additional batteries would make it pretty cool... solar panel t-shirts next ?

I’ve got an old Electra Rat Rod cruiser that I’d love to put one of these on, it’s very heavy but it rolls like a train, when you get it up to speed it just rolls with very little effort at all and just keeps going. I reckon this would be ideal.

Feature request for gen2, would it be possible to charge with usb c power delivery? You could then use any modern laptop charger at the office to top it up while you're there which would reduce range fears for commuters without need to carry a charger which would be nice 😊 I'm a 100kg+ rider and it's hilly around here.

You will not regret $15/torque arm to do this right. If you do not want to do anything to the fork then you can do a mid-drive conversion instead.

Internal resistance of a Lithium Ion battery decreases with heat which allows electrons to flow in and out of the battery faster...BUT they can overheat and that's when bad things can happen like thermal runaway. They generally work better when warm vs cold.

I'm guessing its based around 3500mAh cells, 2 in parallel and 10 in series to give you 20 cells in total. This is quite a common configuration for ebikes and e-scooters. It's not a huge range but still a very usable range for most people. It would be more efficient with a throttle though so you only use power when you need it. Perfectly legal in the UK to have a throttle on an ebike kit. Department for Transport made a statement some years ago stating throttles were legal on ebike kits.

Close to 19 miles isn't that bad considering it's such a small battery but it also ruins the point of getting an Ebike in the first place when you only get like 20 miles of range. That is just absolutely useless in my eyes.

Just need charging times and how big is the charger answering. Leaving a charger at work could be an option as well. I think it looks ace myself for commuting.
