    I'm really not that impressed and doesn't take a peer reviewed study to know that partial reps work, also GH and insulin use 100% factors into modern bodybuilders having big guts. GH causes insulin resistance insulin resistance is a prerequisite for the accumulation of visceral fat and insulin drives storage of that fat. And these two compounds simply were not really used in 70's bodybuilding.

    As somebody who struggles with weight and eating, I want to say that the divide between desire and willpower is a deep chasm. I greatly admire people who devote so much energy to creating their best body while completely resenting the assumption that desire and willpower are the same thing....

  • @WhatAreYouNew

    @WhatAreYouNew

    Жыл бұрын

    So there's 2 parts to willpower right? The willpower to do something and the willpower to restrain from doing something. If you're physically or mentally exhausted you can't necessarily force yourself to DO beneficial things from sheer willpower. What excuse is there for being unable to REFRAIN from doing something detrimental? I imagine people would say addiction, but with a support system and adequate resources, are there any addictions that can't be overcome? If 2 alcoholics both have the resources to quit, and only 1 is successful, is that not due to willpower?

  • @taejaskudva2543

    @taejaskudva2543

    Жыл бұрын

    @@WhatAreYouNew I think my point is that people talk about willpower like it's something you just make yourself do. And that's harder for some people. Or, to put it your way, I don't have enough willpower. It's too hard to be Mad Eye Moody. I don't have it in me to have constant vigilance, at least I don't right now. I'm not sure what support system and adequate resources I would need. I feel like the first would be more time and more sleep. At which point the willpower people say, you're just not making it a priority. To which I reply, yeah. Because it's hard to make it a priority, for a variety of reasons.

  • @WhatAreYouNew

    @WhatAreYouNew

    Жыл бұрын

    @@taejaskudva2543 I definitely understand the "more time and more sleep" argument in general. The thing is healthy eating doesn't necessarily have to be carefully crafted meals that drain hours of your free time. There's a tradeoff in there if you're willing to treat food as nourishment/sustenance, instead of a source of pleasure. A big bowl of oatmeal doesn't sap you of more than a few minutes to replace empty calories like a bagel or muffin in the morning -- It's extremely good for you and very satiating. 1 flavored packet of oatmeal + 1/2 cup of plain oatmeal = 310 calories. I add a splash of skim or 1% milk after cooking it. If you're like me and you make a massive bowl with 2 flavor packets and 1.5 servings of plain oatmeal, it's still only 320+225 = 545 calories. A bagel packed with cream cheese is 500 calories, the average coffee shop blueberry muffin is 470 calories. First and foremost, you need (if applicable) to get off soda or whatever calories you drink. If you can't survive off water, tea (with honey), and coffee (low sugar), then you'll never be able to have a healthy relationship when it comes to food. Need something sweet? Eat some fruit, or have a small glass of OJ. Diet soda does nobody favors. Never make yourself go hungry. You'll just end up binging afterwards.

    SWEET! I stumbled across Dr. Mike a month or two back, as I've lost 95 lbs over the past year and am VERY focused on keeping it off for good. To that end, I was looking for some good evidence-based content on reverse dieting/maintenance and kicking up my strength training a bit to add some muscle. Found his stuff, and it's helped me transition out of my calorie deficit over the last few weeks without a rebound,. I've also used his content to make some small but helpful tweaks to my (VERY basic) lifting routine. When you alluded to this crossover in last week's podcast I was kind of hoping it might be Dr. Mike... 😁

    It took a while before I was ready, but I eventually looped back to this episode. I purposely ignored this one, telling myself that maybe my time with Adam was “over for now” because of how much “workout talk” he was engaging in around then. But here I am now, after seeking out some of Dr. Mike’s videos, and I begin my own strengthening journey. Thanks for everything Mr. Ragusea

    Listen to this man! I am a beginner currently recovering from a back injury because I was not squatting full range of motion! I have also had the best results of my life with cutting AND bulking by following the diet advice. Gains and losses are made in the kitchen not the gym, but remember to still enjoy life, it can be easy to become obsessed with weight in our culture. If you worked hard in the gym and fueled your body with what it needs, its OK to have some ice cream with your kids or beer with friends!

Weak opinion while trying to dodge the heart of the matter while clinging to his faulty assumption that poverty is the fault of the poor person.

If I work out at night then sleep 6 hours without eating then wake up and eat salmon and tuna will that protein go towards muscle growth? If I work out twice in a day. Hard work outs. Then take two days rest. Does my recovery periods protein go towards muscle growth?

    I did some google magic and found this paper: "Protein quality of four indigenous edible insect species in Nigeria" There seem to be large differences in the protein quality of insects but the average "Protein Digestibility Corrected for Amino Acid Score" is around 0.5, which is comparable to beans and lentils, whey protein has a score of 1. So if you want the same anabolic effects from eating insects you need to eat roughly twice as much protein. Crickets have a score of 0.73 which is not that bad but also not great. Maybe there are some insects out there with better scores but I think most of their protein is in the form of collagen which doesen't have a great ammino acid profile and digestibility.

    I just wanna toss my two cents in and say that you can believe in self determination AND believe that systematic disadvantage exists. For instance, I believe that people can massively change themselves and their circumstances, but that doesn't mean that societal structures have no influence on their life. I don't wanna start any arguments, just felt like throwing that in the idea pool.

    @@mitchelbodden7733 I love eating too, and I can't just eat a little bit and not fill myself up 😅, so I get you. But it is easier when you can't eat sugar or any of the processed stuff, so if I want cookies or a cake I have to go through the effort of baking it, and even then it's sugar free. But when I cut I tend to just to intermittent fasting or water fasting. That way I don't need as much self restraint. I find it easier to just not eat then to eat a tiny bit and stay hungry...

  • @mitchelbodden7733

    @mitchelbodden7733

    I totally understand. Having small meals throughout the day is actually more conducive to my current bulking diet than to cutting. Tiny meals just make me more hungry. If I do intermittent fasting then I just don’t get hungry nearly as often, especially if I’m busy with work or school which is often the case these days.
