You are correct, I have seen another KZreadr review this too and he is very impressed with it. I think I need to get one of these when it's out on the shelves as it always tends to be windy so boil time will be kept to a minimum with that clever burner system and shield built in.

THIS OEX STOVE seems fine for a single camper. I agree with you that the silicon handles are improvements that were left out here. Boiling times are competitive with other brands. I agree with your key statement: 'What's the rush?' All one fella needs is to reheat one dehydrated meal. THANK YOU for a fine demonstration and analysis.

Decent review, thanks for sharing. I have just bought the Tacana but reviewed the Heiro before I did. For me the Heiro is just a little bit too small. I often camp with one other person and the Tacana has the bigger water volume so we can both have a big brew, and some to spare for a top up. Likewise I can get a bigger gas bottle in the Tacana for extended camping trips. Used it a few times so far and the ignition has been fine on the Tacana. The Heiro definitely has a place for solo campers though. All the best 👍

Excellent review.. you're right we can't all afford the expensive side of camping. The question is, relating to jetboil... How fast do you need your water to boil when relaxing on a mountain in your tent.. boiling speed seems to be the driving factor of most stoves. I use the Alpkit Brukit, cost me £35 a couple of years ago.. its £65 now 😲.. very enthusiastic review.. brilliant 👍

I think it looks much better than the Tacana, cheaper than the Alpkit BruKit too which I think is probably its closest rival. Prefer the new design with the handles, windshield and the size is more than enough for just boiling some water, which is all I do most of the time. The piezo on my BruKit isn’t very reliable either so I was wondering if the igniters are manufactured out of house for OEX, or perhaps OEX just failed to check quality on imported stock, like the issue we had on some of their tent poles being too long. Great vid Dan, might very well add another stove to my collection to make up for missing out on the Tacana back when they were around £40 😂

@@englishwoodsman Haha sorry, I didnt mean to disrespect the stove that you clearly love. These days due to weight issues, Ive honed my camp system down to a Dutch Army metal cup and nested water bottle (think Crusader Cup), combined with this tiny BRS titanium microstove. I also only take food that rehydrates with water, or can be eaten cold. (and hot drinks ofc) I used to roll with a Trangia system, and tried some other larger gas stoves, but I have to carry a lot of stuff, so I try to lose weight wherever I can. One day I did the maths after weighing my gas bottle after a trip, and realised just how little fuel I use. I came to the conclusion that just taking the smallest possible microstove and a metal cup, crushes the weight to nearly nothing, at the cost of slightly less fuel efficiency, and an extra couple of minutes boil time. These fancy finned super efficient stove systems are great, and they do what they say, but they are pretty heavy and very bulky, just to save a few minutes and a few grammes of gas. Essentially you are packing well on the way to half a kilo of equipment to save a few grammes of gas per boil. If you are on a two week expedition in the Alps, then saving those grammes of gas and cooking faster is a big deal. But for most camping trips they are massive overkill. I mean, how many times have you gone out camping with a full butane can, and come back with an empty one? It might happen on expeditions but Ive never seen it happen in normal life. So yeah.. I take the tiniest little microstove and a metal cup, and I use it for everything.

It looks a good stove and for the money I would chose it all day over the Jetfoil zip, it offers better wind protection with the better encapsulated design an ignitor and for one person its probably better with the600ml fill than the Zip at 800ml. I cannot believe they did not add silicone tubing to the handles though, that is ridiculous I thought the same when I saw Messner reviewing it. It can't be long that they revise that as its such an over sight not to for very little cost and a big improvement.

Thanks for the review Dan. Looks a great piece of kit. What size gas bottle fits inside it, as that would be my only concern. I can get gas bottles like the one you are using for £3.99, from a Surplus guy I know, but he dosnt sell the smaller ones that would possibly fit inside it. I have seen them, but they were dearer than what I pay now. My stove and cookset I use now was £18.00,and that size bottle you show, fits in it and makes for a more compact set than that. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

At the moment for gas I’m still using my Coleman F1 at just 77grams and can fit into the palm of your hand when taken apart it’s been a favourite of mine for years……. My latest setup I’ve been using is A Toaks Titanium pot with a Goshawk Era spirit burner. I made a ring so it sits securely into an MSR canister stand. The whole setup fits into the 750ml pot so space wise it’s nothing. I love this setup as it’s so light. Maybe I could be persuaded by this new OEX stove but can already boil under 3 mins with both of my setups so I don’t know.

This time OEX steal Jetboils design almost precisely, including the size. And despite it formally has smaller size, now you have the same issue which Jetboil has comparing with Tacana: no space to put the gas canister inside, so when you keep them in rucksack separately they consume even more space than single Tacana

Amendmant Dan..They are £45 with Go Outdoors members card but it's misleading on Google as it says £90 on the title ad and no mention of £45 till you click on it and then it does show the £45 price. Hopefully , G/O will spot the error and change the heading on the Google ad.

'Swing a cat' Dan refers to the 'Cat of nine tails' used for punishment in the old navel days. No cats were used, they were used for catching rats. 🤣🤣 A good honest review. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ😀😀

I use jetboil all the time but they are pretty terrible if you know your stuff. Portable kettles to be honest. I say this while filling my jetboil.

Anyone else found scorch marks on the bottom? I’ve found scorch marks after one use. Can’t seem to remove them after a wash.

Hi just to let you and other people know, i received mine this morning went to open the handles and the bottom rivets on the bottom left hand side broke straight off rendering it useless as it also goes straight through the pot and now its leaking water through the rivet, absolute waste of money, im sending it back and sticking with my jetboil

You could probably “plastidip” the handles, not sure of its heat resistance or if it’s available in the UK.might be worth some research if you really want coated handles.
