Why would a welder make as much or more than a mechanic

Because their bkth skilled trades brainiac.
The fact that I went back to school to do welding is probably the best decision. I've made ever for me and my family. I start my second semester. I watch your videos constantly they're always helpful

From Nepal, age 20, buying a second hand scooter for carrying my welding machine and grinder on back cavin, just starting career in metal fabrication industrial business. yes m doing job right now, i know how to weld / cut
This was very helpful for me. The few people I've told I'm in welding school keep asking me where I'm going to work. There are so many options, that I'm just not sure where I'll end up yet. This video helped me see some possibilities though!

I am wanting set up a rig to go out on my own. If the Lincoln machines are DC only, how are you powering your tools? Do you have to carry an AC generator as well?
First off, I just want to say I love your content. I just bought myself a Lincoln AC 225 240V stick welder. I bought some of the basic tools and equipment: welding jacket, chip hammer, gloves, helmet, magnets, rods, etc. I have a few questions to ask: What pants would you recommend for someone to wear while they are welding? What electrodes would you recommend I use? Is there anything else you would recommend I would need to get started in this field? Thanks for the help in advance

Don't do it. Welding is very underpaid. They don't make as much as people think. I was making $12/hr with no benefits as a welder. I quit and became a door greeter for Costco, making $29/hr with full benefits. No wonder why there's a shortage of welders....

i see many welders in my area run Toyota tundra's and i can understand why, they are not diesel but they are really reliable and wont break down if you do simple fluid changes and have a big V8 for torque to haul all their equipment but at the end of the day it comes to preference

My surrounding area must suck. You can be Certified in both Stick and TIG both carbon and stainless and you'd be lucky to find a job that pays over 35$ an hour unless union.

That is also an option
Search your local pipefitters union and search for their wages and they will have a chart with wages from 1st year apprentice to topped out. Unions will usually pay for your benefits and a pension as well

Hey @necrobrutalizer377 we made a vid on that a while back, feel free to give it a search on here on any of our platforms
Seriously a dive crew has maybe one guy who can weld underwater and maybe a couple more who can do top side. Diver school is as much as welding schools but you will travel more and make more money and have more fun. The average welder is going to be in a shop making $20 to $25 an hour. But yeah there’s good money in the field but there’s a bunch of welding schools flowing the market with kids that can’t take it and don’t make it.

@@BennetChurch a diving career pay wise is the same boat there will be great paying jobs on occasion but most is not much more than any other trades. Union pays well but it’s thin when it comes to jobs out there. A diver welds 100 hours topside for every hour welding under maybe. You can get a welding job once you certify but you can certify any where even in your yard. Diving you have to go to school. Diving is much more fun than welding but like both they are cranking out more than the market needs. They tell you it aint worth it because they want your money. I certified to weld while at dive school thru night classes.
I only do stick as a mobile welder. I do just fine. No mig no TIG at all.

how do people deal with old age and eye issues? I have welded as part of my job my whole life but never certified or pressure pipe type stuff. I struggle with focal range at my age 52. I couldnt iomagine trying to run the road now and be welding full time as opposed to the minimal amount i do now.

You make money being self employed its more stressful at times when collecting money from people. All depends on where you want to work. Stay clean and dry working in a fab shop. Working out in the field you'd make more money.
