Always awesome to see someone's collection...what you have, how it's organized, how it's stored, handling practices, display practices, recordkeeping, etc. Alas, I was really looking forward to hearing what you think about its "retail" value. I understand that's not what you'd get if you're suddenly wanting (or needing) to flip it, but it'd be nice to know. I'd say $55K because my collection is similar. All that being said, we know the day of selling will be like spending the night with Ramsey Bolton. Get ready for the pain.

You made some good points but. I don’t think you touched on everything. Desirability and Liquidity are two things to consider. How fast do you need to the money and does anyone want all of the books in your collection and do you really care. I mean how many People are looking for Animal Man comics. And one other real important thing to consider is that you need to

As a collection buyer, books under $50 are almost inconsequential to the offer. Books under $10 are part of the "bulk" portion of the offer, and books under $5 can actually lower the offer if there are a lot of them. The amount of work and hard costs that go into processing a book for individual resale (which is what someone buying your collection is going to do, regardless of what they say) makes low-dollar books very unattractive. If you are valuing your collection for insurance purposes, use the FMV of every single book. If you are trying to figure out what you (or your ungrateful heirs) can actually *sell* them for as a collection, price out the heavy hitters, cut that by 30-40% and you'll be in the ballpark. P.S. For those about to furiously type at me about just selling them yourself: Unless someone is already a seller, they aren't going to sell their own comics individually. I've seen this play out a thousand times. They start and might sell a few books. Then they realize just how much freaking work goes into each and every book and how little the return is when compared to the starry vision they had when they started. Almost every single person will quickly get to the point where they just sell it all as a lot.

Incomplete list of costs that have to be paid by an individual seller (online and conventions only): Bare minimum: -The cost of the book (duh) -Bags: Magazine, Super-Golden, Golden, Silver, Modern. Poly and Mylar -Boards: same set -Painters Tape: You can get the self-adhesive bags, or clear tape, but you'll regret it eventually. -Boxes (magazine size and regulars. Short or long (I prefer short) -Scanner. Phone pics are not viable if you are moving any kind of volume. You'll be better off with scanners for raws and slabs, but let's say just one. -Thermal Printer (you could use another kind, but thermal really is cheaper overall) -Regular printer (packing slips, pick lists,..basically anything not a label of some kind) -Printing supplies (paper, labels, ink, toner, consumable parts like rollers) -Computer (but you probably already have one, so that doesn't really count) -Subscriptions. Oh lord this is a broad (and expensive) category. Pricing tools, marketplace storefronts, website hosting, accounting software...the list just goes on and on. -Shipping materials - Comic mailers, slab mailers, shipping tape. If you do live sales and convention sales: -Tables -Table covers -Display racks -Flyers/Business cards -Signage -Dolly/cart -Venue fees -POS (can be cheap to expensive) But wait... all of that (and more) and we haven't sold a single book 😲 Once you sell: (note-fees are calculated on the selling price + shipping + tax combined) -Payment processor fees. These can vary but are usually 3-4% -Marketplace fees. 8% to 20% is normal. Note that many platforms charge a per-transaction fee (30 or 40 cents) that significantly raises the effective fee for low-dollar books. Example: WhatNot technically charges 8%, but on a dollar book the effective rate is actually 41% because of the per-transaction charge. -Postage -Chargebacks. Yes, you will get unwarranted chargebacks. People are bastards. And let's not forget... after all is said and done and you manage to eek out a profit; the IRS wants 20-30% of that. All of this also assumes you don't value your time at all. In a nutshell, unless you are willing to take on all of that^^, you're going to sell your collection for significantly lower than FMV. Comic reselling isn't a way to make easy money. It's a labor of love that hopefully profits enough to let you keep doing it.
