Insurance rates are based on your location, your age, your driving record, your credit report, multi-car discounts and the damageability of the vehicle. Insurance rates also vary greatly between insurance companies. Count your blessings you’re not in Florida as you could easily double your stated rates.

True which makes the Kia’s rate even more surprising because all rates for the other EVs had the same factors.

Great video, insurance is a topic that is rarely covered. I have noticed that my insurance has been increasing since 2018 by about 30%. That is on a car that I bought new in 2009. The premiums were steadily decreasing as one would expect as the car ages but inflation and the pursuit of profits has overtaken that. I shudder to think what I will be paying when I buy an EV. I wish I could buy your EV6 (I love the colour) but I wouldn’t be able to license it in Canada.

Majority of insurance costs is in the liability and uninsured liability portion of the insurance. If I remember you also recently moved so that may have a little bit to it as well. When a new model comes it, sometimes the insurance rates take a bit of time to adjust to the actual costs and 2nd year rates tend to skyrocket.

I would love your rates. Here in Texas my EV6 GT Line AWD is 180 a month. The last time this happed was when I got the 2015 Mustang GT. After it was on the market for a bit my insurance dropped a lot.

Great video. My west coast insurance cost for the Tesla Model Y Long Range is $848 for the year. That policy includes 2 other cars, a homeowner's policy, and 2 motorcycles so there are some bundling discounts in there. The other vehicles are older so they cost much less than the Tesla. One of the motorcycles is a very high performance vehicle but that doesn't seem to impact insurance costs.

I am in the same boat with a MYLR ordered in January now saying Oct-Dec. I ended up buying an Ioniq5 in February and I love it. I haven't cancelled my Model Y order since the order is non-refundable and you never know what could happen between now and when the vehicle finally comes in. Right now I am leaning towards not taking delivery, but we'll see.

Heh heh. You know what song comes to mind for me when the subject of "money" comes up? ABBA's "So Long"! As for Mustangs (and this will date me!), I always think of Steve McQueen in "Bullitt." I suspect that, just like everything with current inflation, insurance prices are simply going up and up. I paid less to insure our Model 3 when only a year old ($941.28) than I'm paying now ($1,243.02), i.e., just slightly less than your EV6. Mmmmaybe the Rivian estimate was a smidgeon lower because your insurance company factored in the cars that you now currently own, which gave you a "multi-policy" discount…?

All but sympathetic to your $200 annual increase. Homeowner, multi vehicle, excellent credit and clean driving record in the tri-state with a sports car. I pay multiples over your premium and I'm not complaining. There's more to premiums than car price, performance or parts availability. Driver demographics and likelihood of theft (read: vehicle security system, for example tesla's sentry mode) are two factors you seem to have omitted. Area of residence also plays an enormous role and alters how much weight the other factors are given.

I feel sorry for electric car drivers and future owners. They will simply have to learn the hard way .. as I did. These things are a huge hassle, all those lost hours sitting in those charging stations, huge anxiety, plus a outrageous expense in the long run. Good luck trying to sell a used Electric car with wore out battery modules. You'll find out nobody wants to pay the ridiculous price of batteries ... Batteries are very ... very expensive to replace ( thousands of dollars) ... and make no mistake, you will be replacing them. These batteries are highly toxic to our environment, with a high potential for disaster to our surroundings. LITHIUM BATTERIES ARE NOT GREEN CLEAN ENERGY BY ANY MEANS! ... I wish I knew all this before I bought my car . Do your homework before buying !
