How Much I Made In One Day Recycling Cans
Today i was given some cans from one of my customers for free. so I took advantage of it and wondered how much money I would make doing it. The homeless do this everyday to survive and I give them respect. It's a hard, dirty, job and it takes a lot of work to do.

Up here you can only return alcohol 10 cents under 750 ml, 20 cents equal and over, and you have to take them to "The Beer Store". When I was in Germany you could return other kinds of bottles, glass and plastic, and all you had to do is take them to a grocery store and put them in a machine that scanned them for defects. You get a receipt which you then take to the cashier. This was over twenty years ago and I still can't believe this hind of technology and system isn't used in North America.

Go to restaraunts , bars , any business in your town and just as permission to take their deposit returns , also look up up what items are taken as returns in your state or if you can join supermarket club that allows you recycle other items that you might not think are worth money , like in my state it’s only carbonated beverages beer and water bottles , but if I become a member of hannafords (supermarket ) they also accept milk and yogurt containers , juice boxes and bottles and some other things that aren’t typically thought of as deposit return items, another thing that hannafordsdoes is they are based out of a state that give 10cents per bottle or an vs. the 5 cent that my state give so if I use the hannaford pre count bags , I take them back and I receive double what I typically get , now I have a few peo0,e that save 5hem for me and I pick them up once a week , so ask you neighbors if they’ll do the something like that for you as well and my advice would be to just open a savings account and not pay attention to how much is in for a couple months and just deposit the majority of the money you make from doing this for a month or two and you’ll be surprised how much it racks up. Oh and don’t be afraid or embarrassed to grab them from the side of the road or if you see them in a bin in town on top just grab them and add them to your stash. And for the return8ng part itself use boxes for glad count them out and write the number on the side , plastic stomp them and use clear bag again write the number on the side , aluminum pull the tab off (save these separately you can sell them online to people who use them for art or to people who melt them down as a sourc of clean aluminum or take them to a scrap yard when you have enough and turn them in there as clean aluminum) then same thing count and write the number on the side , always take your bags to any place that doesn’t require you to put them in a machine (they may ask you to count out a bag for them a couple times until they know you and know you’re honest with them ) as this is the fastest most efficient way to deal with them and it helps prevent you from getting ripped off by someone I had a dude try to short me almost 15 dollars trying to say that some of what I had brought was already there , boxes are also a great way of storing cans as well I just find it easier to deal with them using bags personally

I used to work at Reynolds Aluminum when they had trailers that people could take their cans to and sell them. I ran one of those trailers and it actually was my first full time time job while I was going to college. Now I get 55 gal plastic barrels from work make the top into a lid and throw my crushed cans (crusher costs $8 bucks at Harbor Freight) in the barrels. I 5 barrels and about time to take them to the recycling center. You're not going to get rich recycling cans but it beats throwing them away.

Here in Florida the homeless can't do it. You need a license plate and they run a background check. Electronic fingerprint too. You can make minimum wage if you set a route and calculate. I spend $5 in fuel for every 100 pounds. 33 cents a pound. You have to write down all the garbage pick up zones. In Hollywood, Florida there are alleyways with hundreds of bins. You'll load up quickly and several drop offs due to overload. It works out.

Hey Mike, new sub here from 🇬🇧, I recycle scrap metal here in the UK and wish it was as easy to scrap cans here as is there, when I say easy I mean profitable. I saved all my cans from home for around 6 months (mainly Guinness and Red Bull) 😂 and my scrap yard told me they would only take them as irony aluminium price rather than clean aluminium which kind of sucked. And as for recycling plastic and glass it’s near to impossible to find a place that will pay you for recycled plastic and glass here. I am considering collecting and storing huge amounts and see if I can ship to somewhere in Canada or the States and make profit from it that way. Where are you Canada or America?

Recycling aluminum cans is my job. I don't agree that it takes 5 hours to make $100-200, that seems a little absurd. Unfortunately, I live in a state where everything is paid by the weight, and it's only aluminum, no glass or plastic. I typically collect cans until I have 3 or 4 large bags, Ill strap them down on a shopping cart and haul them off to the scrapyard. It doesn't pay handsomely by any means, but it's an honest days work. Just because I'm in the streets doesn't mean I can't be productive.

Just hiding behind a fake return payback. That is why you can't return anything not bought within the state. If it was legitimate it should matter where the aluminum came from.
