    Yes, I was surprised at your total cost. I lived in Saranda for 4 months in 21/22 and 8 months in 20/21. Costs must have skyrocketed! My rent was 300 USD a month. Food 300 to 400 and a rental car was about the same (11.00/day) My apartment was not a luxury accommodation but very functional. A month with 2 trips out of town was about 1,400 USD (cheaper the first year) and I had lots of fun!

    We really enjoy your videos and information. My wife and I are doing a similar retirement. We like doing 3 month stays using AIRBNBs. Next Summer we are doing Europe, now we are in Sayulita, Mexico, next will be Panama, then Thailand. You two are really setting a great example for all of us traveler's! Keep up the great videos! Thank you for sharing your adventures!

    @@OurFreedomYears Yes, and 3 month intervals seems to be the right period of time for us. We can get a better feel for the community, participate in volunteer activities (turtle and wildlife rehabilitation) and, not be so rushed to get to the airport! However, moving to a different city each month is also a great idea. Especially if the AIRBNB host is challenging! Again, keep up the cool videos!

Our original plan was to start traveling right away but..... Your description of slow and active travel really appeals to us. Here's to crossing paths!

    It's all relative. The cost of living in Australia is high because the wage and standard of living are so high. The amount of money you have left at the end of each month is still the same, just directed in local currency. Most Albanians wages are less than $400 USD per month. A university educated professional would earn under $8000 EURO's per year. THey live quite well there and are very happy.

    regarding the car, you spent 3 months total in Albania... did you rent a car for the entire 3 months or just for the month in the Sarande area? If so how did you get between cities and how is the transportation in Tirana itself?

  • @OurFreedomYears

    @OurFreedomYears

    2 жыл бұрын

    Great question. We had the car for just over a month. We picked it up at the end of our time in Tirana (definitely didn't need a car there!) and then made our way through Albania down to Sarande. We dropped it off in Tirana when we left the country. Definitely we felt it was helpful for seeing southern Albania, although it's possible to get around by bus.
