I'm making two small quilts for a friend to give as gifts. She wants to pay me, for the materials and my time. I told her, "You can't afford me." I give most of my quilts away, or donate them for fundraisers.

Hello from Philippines! I love Liberty fabric! Just additional information: Liberty Mall in London produces and designs their own fabric. What amazed me is that whenever Liberty Mall has an employee who gave birth to an eldest child, the mall will design and produce a fabric named after that child. I have a cousin who works there now as a maintenance staff whose wife gave birth to a son two years ago but the fabric named after him, Theodore Manor, just came out this month as part of their Autumn/Winter 2022 Liberty Fabrics collection. I also love fabric and is starting to hoard some in preparation for my retirement in a few years. Your choice of fabric is beautiful. Thank you for this vlog.

We use to liv in Italy where cotton cream on cream cotton cost 22 euro a meter. I could only afford 1/2 meter…thank goodness I only had to make a pillow case sorts ruffle on 2 small cases.

I've missed you as well. I love your quilts and book reviews. I just joined your IG page and am excited to see the variety of quilts you work on. It helps me feel better about my own aesthetic. I love traditional, modern and quirky.

I made Sewcialites 1 last year and am doing 2 as well! I loved it and it was awesome to get a tutorial every week for the block. I made the 6” block but I might do a mix of all three sizes this time!

I don't know the Liberty history, but I believe the fabric is called "tana lawn". Betsey is my favorite pattern.

Yes the fine cotton fabric is called tana lawn. I made my brother a shirt from a tana lawn with tiny check pattern. The collar didn’t wear well and I remember the topstitching just seemed to sit on top because the fabric was so fine for normal gauge thread. Very fine. Lovely for tiny English paper piecing because it folds so crisply. I remember when it used to be only 36” wide but I think it’s the normal 45” now, is that right? They made other cloths too, especially fond of the fine wool. Quality !

Your idea of making blocks from every chapter to make a quilt is a brilliant time traveler. Many years ago my thinking was just like that but now being eighty years old, it just hurts my brain! Im 65 after 40 years of not sewing -I’m creating again ( so glad I’m not to old-the quilting tutorials have inspired me👩🏼‍💻❤️🧵🪡even hand stitching!

Pricing... consider & make notes: Driving to & from the store, shopping time for the fabric, batting, thread, drive home, gas, unpack, lay out, cut, cut cut, piece piece piece, assemble, binding add all this time up to help select your prices. $1100 for a one of a kind quilt that will last a life time. and be passed down. The first time you do a project it can take a little longer, but it's a one of a kind quilt. My friend as now trained me to include every cost to help determine the amount required. Hope this gives you more to consider as not everyone can make a quilt.

Hi Nora & 'fam' - I did Sewcialites I - I'm relatively new to quilting, and decided to do it for skill-building ~ which it definitely did! Blocks were labeled 'Beginner', 'Intermediate', or 'Advanced'...which I loved ~ especially when I completed an 'Advanced' block. :) I did mine using random batik fat quarters, so it looked completely different than the FQS finished quilt, but it was a great time ~ I couldn't wait for Fridays when the new block was uploaded. LOVE the idea of making blocks in different sizes ~ maybe I'll try that with you! This was an AWESOME video ~ so much information in such a compact clip! Now I'm going to find a clip of the history of the Liberty Building! LOVED all this!

If you ever visit Bath, make a visit to The American Museum where they have lots of vintage quilts on display. You should also visit York and Chester which are both lovely cities, and Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare Country) .

I made a couple of blouses from Liberty prints about forty years ago, in the days when I worked in an office. The fabric was very fine, silk-like. I believe it was Egyptian cotton. As some mentioned that they had issues with collar wear, I found the same with the cuffs on long sleeves; how it brings memories - fond ones! I occasionally find little pieces as I don't throw my crumbs away. These wee pieces find their way into my crumb quilts; how sweet it is! On my bucket list to visit! Thank you!

I like your ideas for the Sewcialites sew-a-long. Oh, and I have Liberty envy; you did very well!

Hi,I am from Austria and still working on sewcialites 1 and I Love it. I make the blocks in 3 and in 6 inch. I will Not do sewcialites 2, but will Download the blocks for later. So have fun with it!

SO glad you are back... I really missed your inspiration.

Love the quilts and great job selling them, you did well. I would have expected you to sell more of the smaller ones than the larger ones. The Liberty fabric is a tana lawn and while it's different Art Gallery Fabrics have a very similar weight and feel. I have saved the blocks from socialites but never done the quilt. I think my plan was to save a few years and just pick out my favorite blocks. I have found that I don't do very well with mystery quilt alongs.

Making quilts also increases the electric bills quite a bit, it's something that we most add to the quilt final price. The fabrics you chose are very beautiful, it's about the same price in France for cotton fabric with inferior quality. I think you got a good deal there. Inspiring video, happy sewing !

Your quilts are fantastic!!!!

The Liberty of London fabric is lawn. It is 100% cotton but is much finer and lighter weight than quilting cotton.

Yep Liberty is lawn cotton and it feels silky because it has a higher thread count.

Great to see you back. Liberty of London is such a fabulous shop. It was my first job when I was a teenager and I’m sure is what set me off in my career as a fashion designer. The fabric is tana lawn and is finer than quilters cotton but beautiful quality and stunning colours. I love your choice of patterns. Can’t wait to see what you make.

A lot of people use the finer liberty of London Tana lawn for clothing more than quilting in the UK. Though it would make a beautifully soft quilt. The last fabric would make a fabulous skirt.

Just saw your place mats - They would be so Beautiful sewed all together hanging on a wall- where did you get the bird fabric?

For every quilt I have sold or given away, I secretly want it back.

I did Sewcialite 1 just this year in the 6 inch but I did a different setting which I liked better. I am going to do Sewcialite 2 as well.

It's Art Nouveau, not Art Deco...Tana Lawn which is very fine and lightweight cotton.

I'm sure in the the month that this video has been up that people have said that the substrate is lawn. (I believe that voile is the same...) I am a fan of lawn, it makes a great quilt back. So far I have only used Heather Ross's lawn as a quilt back. Yes, other brands than Liberty manufacture lawn/voile. Robert Kaufman had what they called Cambridge solids, I got a bunch to use as background with my Liberty collection as well as the other snippets from Heather Ross, Anna Maria Horner, and others that I have.

A meter is 40” and the fabric is called lawn. Which is a cotton they also do there prints in other fabric such as silk etc

I’m 99.9% sure that Liberty fabrics are no longer made here in the U.K. The fabrics are now made in Italy. Lawn cotton is more expensive than their quilting cotton.

What were the actual size of your quilts that sold?

If you think that $25 per meter is way over the top for a good quality quilting fabric, then you're quite spoiled... Here in the Netherlands that's just a little over the average price, which may vary from €15 to €35 per meter! If I'm not mistaken, in the US quilting fabric is sold in 1 width, whereas in Europe we have 0.9m (mostly batiks) to 1.5m (other cotton fabrics of different qualities) and several other widths in between. And usually the batiks are the most expensive, too... ❤ from the Netherlands

Also make a lot of littles. Like prayer quilts for example.

I love most Northcott fabrics and yes, they do have a very nice quality to them.

How big are the quilts you sold?

Liberty Fabrics…possibly Rayon which takes color better than cotton. Another possibility is Pima cotton which used to be USA’s finest cotton.

Isn’t it funny…I bet there’s no other industry where the seller would say ‘I wasn’t sure how I would feel letting it go once it sold’ and I TOTALLY get it

Hi, I stumbled across this KZread offering and enjoyed it so much. I was in London's Liberty's fabric department during September and was amused that we may have been enjoying the insatiable search for fabric inspiration at the same time. However there is something which bothers me about so many of these sites. WHY do some of you present them without much identification. Just a name -NORA BURROWS and NO INFO ABOUT YOURSELF OR WHERE YOU ARE. I'd like to know who is giving me all this friendly chit chat. Surely I am not the only one who wonders about this lack of communication on the personal level. Congrats regarding selling your quilts. Maybe someday I'll see you at a future London Quilt Event, although I live in Scotland. I send small quilts to impoverished European orphanages Bosnia/ Albania etc for neglected children. Mostly using second hand recycled fabrics. I have also begun to create fidget mats for dementia patients.

LAWN is the kind of fabric at Liberty.

Those two fabrics would most likely be concidered art nouveau. Art Nouveau celebrates elegant curves and long lines, Art Deco consists of sharp angles and geometrical shapes. Art Nouveau came first, lasting roughly from 1880-1914. Art Deco came later, after World War I. This distinction is important politically, because Art Nouveau was all about whimsical romance and escapism in a pre-war society, and after the war it no longer seemed to suit the spirit of the times.

You are fortunate that you went when the x change rate was good. When I went it was $2.00 USD to 1 GBP So double!- and not in my favor

liberty of Londons tawny lawn fabrics are mostly, traditionally, based off of William Morris and other archival designs. I believe they have employed their new, younger designers who work for them to do newer designs. However, it’s like being an antique- timeless.

The fawns lawn fabrics have a beautiful drape. Make yourself an everyday Aline skirt of the one you think has too much white. You will love it!

Congratulations on your sales. After seeing the unsold quilts, your price points were possibly too high given the piecing errors. Perhaps your techniques may need more practice and time. Points have to meet, border designs must measure true. For example the hourglass blocks needed to be sized to equally meet corners. I realize that the quilting police that we joke about should not exist but when we sell, our work should be of the best craftsmanship possible. Best of success in your next event.

I agree about making sure workmanship is excellent. The occasional corner not meeting is fine in my opinion as it shows the quilt was made by an individual person and not mass produced. But only a couple those errors should be acceptable.

Please do not move your upper body so much. I almost got nauseous watching you weave back and forth. Loved your quilts though.
