    1) Yah many Chinese old folks always forbid us to wear black, white or dark blue bcoz it signifies bad luck meaning “death” where usually such colours only worn during funerals, so it’s not practice to wear these colours during happy & big celebrations like birthdays, house warmings, Chinese New Year (CNY), anniversaries etc. Therefore, all are highly encouraged to only Red or bright colours, this means to drive away all the bad luck and monsters as Red used to symbolises the real tradition of celebrating CNY where an ugly creature 年(怪兽) has been defeated by when red fire crackers are lighted off to scare it away. Thus CNY (过年) also literally referred to defeat & overcome (过) the creature (年). So Red colour is always preferred by the Chinese old folks in any big events or occasions all the time, they will be very pleased to see you wear in Red apparels. As such, even Angbaos are called Red Packets in this manner. 2) And yes, we don’t sweep floors before eve or during the entire CNY period. This is bcoz the old folks said we will sweep away all the good luck. 3) Even if things broke during CNY, we must all say good words or use auspicious sayings to describe for example: 富贵开花,岁岁平安, 黄金满地 instead. Most real Chinese from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan, South Korea will know this.

@Maj L. Buena why dont u ask them first then, rather than claiming that they wont. both lorenzo ruiz and mother ignacia had direct parents who still spoke hokkien and even taught them, so they definitely knew that they were. being "chinese-filipino" is different from just being "chinese". even if they deny their heritage, it doesn't change the fact that they are chinese filipino. It just doesn't mean, they have anything to do with china. why are you so ashamed and self-hating of your heritage? we have nothing to do with the actions of whoever else is in china now and our people have had our own great legacy in the philippines. even if one identifies more as filipino, it does not change the fact that they are chinese filipino. Filipino is not just a single ethnic group nor race of people. It is a nationality created from the concept of the philippine revolution who took the name from the original local born insulares spaniards. Every citizen of the philippines is a filipino, regardless of ethnic blood or race or religion or whatever.

@Maj L. Buena what does it matter if he also likes his filipino genes or his chinese genes. does it make him less of a filipino if he actually did have chinese heritage too? in spanish colonial times, the larger proportion of east asian migrants in the philippines were indeed chinese, specifically usually hokkien. The cantonese, hakka, teochew, japanese are just a rare obscure minority of minorities that soon got assimilated anyways.
