How Much Caffeine is TOO Much Caffeine? Caffeine Safe Limits and more.

In this video we go over how much caffeine is too much! Topics like caffeine overdose, death by caffeine and several case studies on how much caffeine is too much will be discussed. Although I review lots of energy drinks, caffeine safety is very important to me, which is why I am making a video on this topic. Please feel free to share with all your family and friends so that they know how much is too much. You may be surprised to find out the amount of coffee they drink is far too much.

    The worst case I can remember my body in was on a Dreamhack 7 or so years ago. I had somewhere around 8+ 50cl energy drinks, hadn't eaten anything substantial nor slept for roughly 30 hours (breakfast the day before + a bit of snacks - I'd simply forgotten and never felt hungry) I don't think I was in danger or anything as I wasn't cold sweating or getting dizzy etc, but my hands were shaking almost as if I had goosebumps for over an hour after I had realized and went to grab food. Fun fact on top of that was that that same day(s) was my record for 51hrs+- of staying awake, I don't think I can even come close to that at even my current age. When you're a kid somewhere around 14-18, things that would at my current age make me get a headache or at least feel discomfort simply get shrugged off and feel natural - Until you hit that limit where it actually brings physical consequences such as severe nausea or quite a few things that generally lead you to feel like trash or even pass out. Anything worse than that isn't realistic to your odds however.

    Thank you for your comment! Yes, I know that most places besides the U.S. don't have the variety that we have. It is mostly because of a lot of the laws passed limiting the caffeine intake and what companies are allowed to put in their drinks. Continue to browse my channel and take a look at the "healthier" energy drink series (if you havent already). I went over Yachak Yerba Mate, Runa (which uses Guayusa) and plenty of other healthy options. Also, I have no factual information on this, just thinking out loud, but if your levels are still going up, it could be the amount of sucralose being used, maybe? You could look for drinks like Zevia that use Stevia, as well as Sugar Free venom which uses a little bit of sucralose but also Erythritol. Several of my diabetic subscribers have had good luck with the sugar free venom. I also plan on doing Guayaki Yerba Mate in the next month or two. Good luck!

    Ive researched the topic in general and there arent any conclussive studies on that. One of the best things to do when starting to research the topic is to go to Web MD and just type in caffeine. It will give the the known effect, possible side effects, and inconclussive studies side effects. Stunted growth isnt on that list. And most of the negative side effects are from over-consumption. Actually just posted a video today.

Kids arent working out and there havent been a lot of studies of how these preworkout ingredients affect kids...because WHY would they? Kids dont use supplements. Luckily enough 400 is within the safe limits so you are good, but still, these are recommended maxs based on the entire day...not some of the people that take 300 in one dose of Reign or Bang. 400mg max per 24 hours usually for me. Just for testing my own limits I went up to 500mg once or twice but I was feeling very ill from that. Usually I have 2 monsters and 2 redbulls spread out over the entire day. That way I can stay alert and focused but still drink delicious drinks all day.

  • @CaffeineMan1

    Sorry to hear that. Seizures are definitely no fun. Are they convulsive seizure, like grand mal, or petite mal? Simple or complex? And is the caffeine that big of an effect on them? 2 cans of Bang is still 600mgs of caffeine, and if the 5-7 cans of red bull monster were the 16oz, you were around a gram...so you've definitely gone down, so thats a plus. If you are ever looking to attempt to go slightly less, I also did a video on Caffeine Detoxing. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Congratulations on your new dad hood soon! If you didn’t see it, I also did a video on caffeine pills. You shouldn’t really go over 400mgs a day, even though the directions say no more than 4 pills a day. The Mayo Clinic and FDA say 400 is the max, but it’s ok to go over occasionally. I recently did a video on if caffeine can help you lose weight . I’m that video I briefly touched on caffeine tolerance, so if you go over 400 on a regular basis it will eventually become less effective. But a cup of coffe and one pill a day when needed is fine. You can probably even break the pill in half to get 100mgs and then another 100 later on.

    There are some people with an immunity to caffeine. Caffeine is metabolized in the body by an enzyme Cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). Everyone has 2 copies of the gene. There are 2 variations of this gene which affect how quickly a person metabolizes caffeine. The CYP1A2*1A variety makes an enzyme that metabolizes caffeine very rapidly. However, the CYP1A2*1F allele metabolizes caffeine slowly. One of these genes may not be functioning correctly or both may be functioning more excessively, thus processing the caffeine too fast.

    Have had around 500 to 1300 mg over the couse of 24 hours, the latter being rare for me. Have taken 5 - 100 miligram caffiene pills at once but knew that it was over the limit yet also knew that I would be extremely lazy and mostly immobile during this time in front of a computer for about 3 hours so I had the heart rate of somone jogging while sitting down and the heart rate and increased energy was all I noticed, but I didn't get up once or make any sudden large movements since I knew that would be a terrible decision having a heart rate of over 100 bpm while sitting in a chair moving a hand... Also I process caffiene at a good rate and have a high tolerance. So if you haven't been having around 32 oz. of strong coffee every morning/ throughout the day and haven't built a tolerance for it then please dont risk your life over this stimulant since for you 500mg of pure caffiene taken at once may be like 1000 at once for me. And you may noy be aware of a heart condition/problem you may have. I'd say try to stick to a cup of coffee every week 3-5 days with 4-2 days to lose some of the tolerance so you wont feel like you need more each day to stay alert.

Glad you enjoyed the video. 500 is a touch high but sometimes weight can matter and also a matter if you cycle yur caffeine or not. if you do 500 every single day, it will become less effective because your body gets used to it...which is why you might have increased from 300 to 400 them 500. Weight is also another general factor, based around what your body can intake and process... Other factors include how well you metabolize caffeine. I don't think at that dose you are endangering your body, but at that dosage, you can build a tolerance and it become less effective. I mean, honestly, Ive gone over 400mgs enough times to know its "ok" but I do cycle back down to 200-300 the next day.

    If you were to consume 64 milligrams of caffeine every 15 minutes without going to the bathroom at all it would be kind of like what people had to do when they took part in that radio contest called hold your wee for a wii and that would be extremely dangerous and a really good way to get accute water intoxication as well as a great way to overdose on caffeine so therefore to make consuming caffeine as safe as possible you should limit the amount of caffeinated beverages you consume daily by consuming to 1 caffeinated beverage a day and sticking to mostly either water or caffeine free beverages and if you need more than one cup of coffee a day drink 1 regular coffee and 1 or 2 decaf coffee afterwards to keep your caffeine consumption really low as possible.

    True, caffeine pills do take longer to absorb into the bloodstream. Depending on how fast you drink your coffee or energy drink, you could feel the effects faster or slower. If it takes you an hour to drink an energy drink, the caffeine is going in at slower doses so it should last longer as it is constantly being processed. As for coffee/energy drinks being fastest, thats not necessarily true. Caffeine gum gets absorbed through the oral membranes faster and can usually start working within 10-20 minutes depending on the brand. Jolt claims it works 5 times faster than any other brand, but hasn't stated an actual time range. Thanks for watching and commenting! I didnt even think to add processing time.

I promote caffeine safety and I know most people your age, think you can handle it (and think adults are wrong 😂) but science, just like math, is truth. 2+2=4, no matter what you beleive...so you may think you are ok at 600mgs but science says you are going to become addicted to this legal drug and it is going to start not working for you at some point because you will become tolerant to it. If you were to mix a can of bang energy drink MCT oil grass fed butter and celery and oranges and carrots and arugula and lettuce and apples and vitamin c powder and 2 nature made multi complete supplement pills and some yogurt all together in a blender to make a smoothie would you end up making a caffeinated smoothie that would not make you crash later and give you all the important nutrients at the same time.

    If you were to ask me. I would wait till My kids are in high school to let them energy drinks. Cuz when you're a child, you don't need that much energy. When you're a teenager in high school you gotta go back and forth in between classes. And even more so when you're an adult you gotta go to work and stuff. So sometimes you need that little bost of energy. But when you're a kid-12 and under. You just don't need it like at all. I would also wait till there at least 15 to let them have energy drinks. That's just the way I would do it.

    Yes, thats a little higher. Double the amount of the daily recommended high. Is chugging a entire 32 oz cup of coffee in one entire sitting dangerous if so what is the rule of thumb for consuming a 32 oz cup of coffee.

  • @CaffeineMan1

    @CaffeineMan1

    2 жыл бұрын

    Depends on the kind of coffee. Some coffee only has 70mgs per 8oz, other coffees like Deathwish have 57mgs per one ounce. Therefore a 32oz cup of coffee could be anywhere between 280mgs and 1824mgs...therefore, just figure out how much caffeine is in YOUR 32oz cup and if its less than 400mgs, it should be safe. As a general rule of thumb, chugging products with caffeine is never recommended.

  • @CaffeineMan1

    @CaffeineMan1

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thats a pretty low safe limit, considering the Mayo Clinic says 400 is the max for most people. Caffeine doesn't always keep you awake, esecially if you have it on a regular basis. And in some case, depending on how tired you are, you can sleep after drinking one. Ive had plenty of occasions where I drank a Red Bull and went to bed an hour later. Lots of other factors too like the half-life of caffeine as well as how our bodies metabolize caffeine. Theres also sugar crash. If you had a Monster, an hour or two later, some people pass out once the sugar wears off. Its a huge sugar crash. Its sort of like feeling really good for a little while and then having someone just rip it away. LOL!

    Hey my family are worried that I take energy shots to stay awake during my late night shifts. I only take them once a night around 12am to start awake until 5am. So overall in one week I probably down 3 energy shots. I'm 20 years old if it helps. What should I tell my family?

  • @CaffeineMan1

    @CaffeineMan1

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching and reaching out to me. First off let them know the Mayo Clinic and FDA recommend no more than 400mgs of caffeine a day. The shot is only 200mgs so you are well below the max if that’s your only caffeine source. Next, people are worried about energy drinks because they don’t understand them, just heard bad things about them. But when you look at the actual ingredients you’ll see most energy drinks aren’t bad for you (depending on brand). If you haven’t already, check in my video on 5-hour energy. I go over the ingredients in it and the health benefits of them. If you can show them al the ingredients and what they actually are, that will make them feel better. Or show them my video on 5-hour energy. And if you are looking for a better tasting one, I also did a video on Daily Power. I hope this helps.

    At one point in time I was up to something like 4 bangs per day (1200mg) and ended up cutting it all out at once. I was just really tired for the first two days. But on the third day, the suffering began. I woke up with a killer migraine and pretty bad dehydration. I was in and out of sleep for most of the day (had to be at work by 6 that night so I went and was able to work my shift after taking some Excedrin) and then conked out the moment I got home. The following day I ended up with flu like symptoms and ibuprofen actually made my headaches worse. By the end of the day, I had started vomiting and called off of both of my jobs for the following day. After this, thankfully, the symptoms started to subside and the migraine was reduced to a dull ache by the one week mark. I currently sit around 100 or 200 mg daily intake and have been careful of drinking more than that since this experience.

    Thats the recommended maximum on a regular basis. I have definitely been known to go over. And a lot of other people (the preworkouters usually) claim they have 1000mgs on a regular basis...whereas that could severely harm others. So, its all based on your body, your genes, your tolerance and everything else. I attempt to hover around 200-600mgs throughout the week, but ive definitely had weeks where I was steadily around the 600-800 mark.
