How Minor League Baseball is Organized | Baseball Explained
Most fans of Major League Baseball understand the structure of Major League Baseball. But understanding Minor League Baseball can prove to be a little more difficult.
In this video, I break down the basic structure of the Minor Leagues and talk about the unique qualities of each level in the system, and also clarify some of the misconceptions around Minor League players.

"Hey we have like 26 letters in the alphabet..."
Bro i love your videos. I'm mexican AND didnt know the Mexican Baseball League was considered Minor Leagues. Its awesome
Fun fact: for the gcl and azl teams they sometimes do two teams with different colors names (examples azl giants black and azl giants orange). Also they don’t play at their Mlb affiliate’s main spring training stadium, they play on a designated practice field.
Very well explained. I was drafted in 1992 by the St. Louis Cardinals. I played SS A - NY/Penn League in ‘92, played in Low A South Atlantic League for the league Champions Savannah Cardinals & 1994 Midwest League. After an injury plagued ‘94 season, I wasn’t sure I’d be resigned & invited to spring training for 1995. There was a lockout/ strike that affected the big league clubs beginning middle of the 1994 season. It carried over to spring of ‘95, which now affected the minor leagues because certain minor league players were asked to come as replacement players (scabs) to big league camp. This caused a huge rift within organizations as you can imagine. I would most likely not have been invited to minor league camp ‘95 unless the 30-35 other minor league players hadn’t gone up as replacements. I took full advantage (or so I thought) . I had a tremendous camp offensively, leading all players with a .340 BA. Rosters for the upcoming season were posted the second last day of camp. I was heading to Little Rock, Arkansas ( AA affiliate ) - feeling that my hard work back from injuries was finally paying off. The next morning we all arrived for the final day of spring training, generally a day to get the first workout with the team you were going to spend the next 6 months with. However, we could sense something was different that morning. Sure enough, an announcement was made not to get in uniform & the GM would be coming to speak with us. We were told the strike/lockout had ended & as incentive to go as replacements , all 35 scab players were promised minor league jobs if/when the strike ends. Therefore, all new rosters would be posted shortly. As expected, despite leading the organization in hitting that spring, I was one of the 35 minor league players released on that final day of camp. I immediately called my agent-who explained to me he represents players from 12 different organizations & they all made the same deal with scab players. The chances of getting signed by another team would be near impossible.
The fact that there are so many teams feeding the mlb shows that baseball could have been a cultural cornerstone the same as soccer in many parts of the world. Would have been amazing to have a relegation system with teams strictly representing their city/town/community rather than franchised system where teams jump around cities.
DEFINITELY do a video on the history of MiLB! I know it was A-D until the 50s
Thanks for the video, this one and MLB The Show teaches me the farm system in MLB :)
Excellent job of explaining the "old" hierarchy of the minors. I am hoping for an update on the loss of 42 minor league clubs. I will be showing this video to my middle school Wide World of Sports class, thanks for the resource!
Bobby, Thanks for offering this clear explanation of the Minors.
I am a writer with a client wanting a piece done on MiLB. I have no experience in (most) sports and this helped me SO much. Thank you!
Great video. I'm a new fan of the Vancouver Canadians watching from London UK.
Something that isnt stressed enough is the jump from college to the Minors. Even at lowest levels, the player talent surpasses almost everyone from out of college.
I used to go watch minor league team called The Storm-chasers in Nebraska. They were fairly good and seats at games were often 85% filled up at least when I went. And it was a fairly good size stadium
brother u just made it more confusing for me
This is really cool
Where can I watch the lower leagues Baseball? Do they broadcast the matches on KZread or another streaming platform? I'm non-American trying to know more about the game. Thanks
I would love to know what everything means in the MLB videogame (MLB the Show 22), I'm playing to understand more about baseball. I want to know what means all stats, all attributes and I would love to see a video about baseball records, individual and team records.
Very helpful
thank you!!!!
Nice video
