How Meth Addiction is Draining the Lifeblood of Australia | Ice Wars (EP 2/4)

Ойын-сауық

Small towns are quite vulnerable to the effects of social dislocation caused by desperate users.
In Nowra, an astonishing percentage of drivers test positive for substances and in Lismore a dealer is arrested with a trove of crystal. Small town community leaders regularly work with authorities to confront and resolve the issue. We travel with Anthony Mundine as he visits his hometown of Wellington, a small NSW town that has been devastated by substance use.
This provocative series takes us to the frontline of Australia’s fight on the substance known as Ice. Through unprecedented access, we follow the stories of lab busts, front line importation arrests at the docks with Task Force Polaris, decontamination of suburbs by the cleanup crews, forensic teams tracing precursors and toxicologists investigating human impact from passive cooking.

My baby brother died after he got high on methamphetamine and jumped off a bridge. He was so paranoid when he got high. My sister died from methadone and xanax overdose in 2013. I did opiates, benzos, and methamphetamine myself. I just celebrated 7 years of sobriety, and I couldn't be more grateful and happy. Life is good with my children and I. I'm praying everyone gets the treatment they absolutely need.

Im sorry but I don’t think you rearresting some guy who got out earlier that morning shows that your efforts are working. It shows that these ice users aren’t getting the help they need while locked up and are going right back to it as soon as they regain their freedom. Yes there is a vigilance but it really shows jail time/prison time alone isn’t enough

When they arrested the poor guy one day after being released from prison, the copper said: it's just proof that what we are doing is working! To me that is clear as day that the system is not working at all, if it was would have come out clean with a clear plan of his future! I guess if you want as many arrested as possible and full prisons, the system is perfect!

Ice is such a huge thing is Aus because of its innacessability to Mexican drug cartels . Ice is a drug that can be produced on Australian soil at a fraction of the cost of what the finished product can bring in. Cheap to make. Expensive to sell. And can be produced locally. Also extremely powerful and addictive. Perfect storm in a way

Once drugs are introduced, it’s too late. For every ONE person you arrest, there are 10 more watching. The only thing you can really do is KEEP GUNS OUT OF SCENARIO whatever you do! Not saying that it's impossible but we are probably more likely to see bougie outcasts in media and content then to see high functioning addicts with personal, business and family reputations to protect.
