How Meth Addiction is Draining the Lifeblood of Australia | Ice Wars (EP 2/4)
Ойын-сауық
Small towns are quite vulnerable to the effects of social dislocation caused by desperate users.
In Nowra, an astonishing percentage of drivers test positive for substances and in Lismore a dealer is arrested with a trove of crystal. Small town community leaders regularly work with authorities to confront and resolve the issue. We travel with Anthony Mundine as he visits his hometown of Wellington, a small NSW town that has been devastated by substance use.
This provocative series takes us to the frontline of Australia’s fight on the substance known as Ice. Through unprecedented access, we follow the stories of lab busts, front line importation arrests at the docks with Task Force Polaris, decontamination of suburbs by the cleanup crews, forensic teams tracing precursors and toxicologists investigating human impact from passive cooking.

My baby brother died after he got high on methamphetamine and jumped off a bridge. He was so paranoid when he got high. My sister died from methadone and xanax overdose in 2013. I did opiates, benzos, and methamphetamine myself. I just celebrated 7 years of sobriety, and I couldn't be more grateful and happy. Life is good with my children and I. I'm praying everyone gets the treatment they absolutely need.
In Canada tranq has hit hard, Belleville had 13 deaths in one hour. I hope everyone suffering with addiction gets help when they are ready to receive it 🙏

A had 62 convictions before a ever done a prison sentance in scotland. Yes a done loads of remanded into custody up untill trial but 5 years of crime before i ever done a propper sentence. When drugs take over your life, stealing and robbing is everyday. Glad im away from that life today cos watching this takes me back to my addiction days. Crazy lifestyle
Dumb leading the dumb...fix the original social issues .. this is just an undertaker at the bottom of the cliff.. NO county has won the war on drugs
When we treat addiction as a disease there would be less in the prisons. It's disgusting

Stop with the disease nonsense. They started calling it that so the treatment racket can bilk billions of dollars out of insurance companies. They go to prison for the crimes they commit. Are there cancer patients robbing people to support their cancer?
Im sorry but I don’t think you rearresting some guy who got out earlier that morning shows that your efforts are working. It shows that these ice users aren’t getting the help they need while locked up and are going right back to it as soon as they regain their freedom. Yes there is a vigilance but it really shows jail time/prison time alone isn’t enough

Going on 10 years since the production of this documentary, a follow up would be wonderful. Im curious to know if you’ve had success in reducing or eliminating the insidious scourge of methamphetamines.
Thank the creator I've never touched it.

Every building in Wellington looks boarded up, so what's the employment rate? Most people start taking drugs because they have no agency.

When they arrested the poor guy one day after being released from prison, the copper said: it's just proof that what we are doing is working! To me that is clear as day that the system is not working at all, if it was would have come out clean with a clear plan of his future! I guess if you want as many arrested as possible and full prisons, the system is perfect!
It's worse in America and most are disappointed cause nothing is being down about it
People don’t even take gear anymore, just ICE Innit? 😢

Great doco plz are you able to do a follow up in these towns? Forever grateful i lost a friend to meth its a life style and dangerous. Education should he in all schools and a regular subject. They should also be taught about money.👍🏽
Ice is such a huge thing is Aus because of its innacessability to Mexican drug cartels . Ice is a drug that can be produced on Australian soil at a fraction of the cost of what the finished product can bring in. Cheap to make. Expensive to sell. And can be produced locally. Also extremely powerful and addictive. Perfect storm in a way

Man there was a guy who ran his country pretty similar to this back in the 30’s and 40’s. That one didn’t end very well.. But maybe this time will be different! Good luck to ya Australia :)

A Yankee sister here! HEED MY WORDS--via this documentary, you can clearly see that Australia is about 50 years “behind us” as far as your whole social structure. Once drugs are introduced, it’s too late. For every ONE person you arrest, there are 10 more watching. The only thing you can really do is KEEP GUNS OUT OF SCENARIO whatever you do! I’m really worried for you.🇦🇺❤️❤️❤️❤️

If she using she isn’t dealing she’s buying for other drug users and supplying it she’s a runner not a dealer
Crystal methamphetamine affects all walks of life, not just junkys, criminals and indigineous people lets make that clear. Ice can take absolutely anybody. We need to see middle to high class addicts instead of your average stigmatized users, that would make a more interesting documentary to watch.

Not saying that it's impossible but we are probably more likely to see bougie outcasts in media and content then to see high functioning addicts with personal, business and family reputations to protect. Because everyone would be arrested. Too many ppl. Not that the US is shy about incarcerating ppl but we don't have the infrastructure to sustain that. Not to mention all of the violence/more serious crime. And of course the amount of lawyers we have. Litigation is so normal here. Too many lawsuits.
Seems the evidence was separate bags of ice and large amounts of money. That shows distribution... this is one of the problems. Stop letting them go with a slap on the wrist.
