With this win Messi and Argentina have an 'International Treble' of sorts in which they are the current South American Champions for beating Brazil to win the Copa America. @gastonlanteri1147
Жыл бұрын
Come on bro, that's the first time Ottamendi failed at this World Cup. He was tired after 80 minutes of intense pressing, and trying to contain 5 french attackers that have just came fresh from the bench a few minutes ago (+Mbappé of course). The epic moment of stupidity goes for Scaloni in my opinion. What was he thinking when he didn't sustituted Macallister, Molina, De Paul or Álvarez, who were already exhausted and couldn't press anymore? Scaloni is a great coach (arguably the greatest one in this World Cup) so the fact he didn't brought Dybala, Paredes or Montiel early on in the game like at 65-70 minutes when it was clear France was starting to get on top of Argentina's physical performance and really pushing albiceleste back, it's a big question to me. 5 sustitutions against none? Macallister stoped pressing, De Paul started to fall while clashing with french midfielders, Álvarez started to run slower and slower giving french defenders lots of space to mannage long passes (the penalty comes from there actually), it was obvious France was going to come back. What does Scaloni do? Sustitutes Di María, who just three minutes back had OWNED the left flank by completely smoking Kolo Muani (which was actually the sustitution of Dembele, who couldn't do anything against Di María in the first half). Di María was the Achilles heel of France, and there wasn't anything that the french defenders could do to stop him. Why did Scaloni took him off? I would have gone for De Paul-Paredes and then replace Macallister or Molina for Montiel first, then go for Álvarez-Dybala/Lautaro. I mean, what do I know right? Can't say I know this game better than Scalone, but one thing is sure. If he had made the right substitutuons in time (65-75 minutes mark) the Game would have probably ended 3-0 for Argentina. The two french goals happened because 6 out of the 11 french players were "fresh" physically speaking and dominated the midfielders of the albiceleste who were already exhausted.
I love how at the start of every few seasons he’s considered finished and stills ends up winning the ballon D’or or smth else in the end and shocks everyone. My guy went from 6 league goals to winning the World Cup with a goal in every round, 5motms and the golden ball too. Unreal🐐
there was never a time when he was not the best in the world. he has always been the best in the world from the very first day he stepped into a pitch.

This is a really good explanation on how good Messi is (and how he played as well). People got salty over him winning Ballon Dor ahead of VVD and Lewa, but if you looked in detail, he is the real definition of carry job in teams. Imagine someone like Muller or KDB scoring 30+ goals one season. If he's playing more up the pitch or as a more of a poacher like Lewa or Haaland does, imagine how many goals he'd scored. I would add his issue with PSG is likely also psychological. It's natural for a people who isn't happy at work gives lower performance. Messi got kicked out by Barcelona after winning a Copa. It must be hard for him. This seems to be the case in the first half of Barca's season where he failed to secure transfer to City. He played bad at first, but when he ultimately is convinced by Koeman's project, he began to play good again. I don't think Messi would be at his best in other club than Barcelona. He's not like Ibrahimovic, Etoo, or Ronaldo who is more of an individualist, Messi actually cherished more sentimental things and is more like Iniesta or Son-Heung Min in that regard.

He is literally a monster this season with PSG - what are you even saying? Coaches already need to maximize player potential. The video clearly explains what Poch did stunted attacks and Messi was plain unlucky with 10 wooden frame hits in the season. He was mentally elsewhere and had lot on his plate but he is a committed guy. Even in the matches he didn't score, he created chances. Check out other stats for last season, he created the most chances in Europe! People fail to understand there is more to a player than goals or even assists. Messi at his worst is better than the best. No player is individualist. If you notice, all tactics start and end with a striker hitting a goal so they are the only ones who can acclimatize to most playing styles. Still Ronaldo stunted Man Utd gameplay coz of his problematic positioning and lack of pressing. With Messi, you need a strong defensive midfielder behind him since he creates several attacking passes which means that he could even lose the ball in the midfield. It is a given when buying Messi for a club. So it is really simple, any team that gets Messi needs a player behind with lots of defensive solidarity. Rest he can playmake and score both, astoundingly well, even at this age. Does not even have to run - which no other player in the world can.

Right when messi just win the world cup, perfect timing
I knew Messi was not finished in 2021, he just needed time to recuperate and also believe that he will be available for the next World Cup.
I truly believe he deliberately slowed down last year, to make sure he was at peak physical condition at the wc. Like small amounts of high intense running etc.. If he went all out last season, and again this season, who knows how his physical would look when the WC came. I believe he took it slow last year, then had a good summer break, and then slowly started to build his form up, when the 22/23 season started. This way he was as fit as he possibly could be, at age 35. Hes gonna be absolutely mental for the rest of the year.

He's the protagonist in World Cup Series from 2006 to 2022 2006: Debut, A substitute player 2010: Turn down Spain offer to join it's team due to his loyalty to Argentina. Basically a Barcelona 2010-2011 squad should he accept it. He will win the world cup earlier only to get thrashed by Germany. 2014: Reaching into the final only to come up short of all team, it's Germany team again. 2016: Decide to quit the International squad when he misses the penalty against Chile. Getting petition by fans 2018: Humiliated by Croatia led by Modric in a group stage and knocked out by France before he can face off against the other GOAT. Getting mocked again when he miss the penalty shoot 2022: Shockingly defeats by Saudi Arabia in a group stage, fought his way only to meet the team that humiliated him in semi final. Reaching into the final only to meet the team that knocked them out and the defending champion. Finally dethroning them and conquer the world cup which ironically he never misses any of the penalty this time. Somebody please do a movie about this GOAT

One of the best personnel analysis you've done. Argentina's structure is very similar to this, leaving Messi high to be an attacking rather than creative threat. Perhaps psg can mimic their success if they have a strong pressing CF to mimic Julian Alvarez's impact.
In short, messi created such a high players standard that even he struggled sometimes.
I don't know why but right now I feel comparing Ronaldo to Messi is an insult to Messi. I feel I can no longer put Ronaldo and Messi in one sentence anymore.
