When massive stars die, they don't fade away gently, instead they explode as supernovae - and in some cases, hypernovae - and leave behind supernova remnants, neutron stars, and even black holes. But how they get to this point is really amazing; high-mass stars evolve very fast and create elements heavier than carbon and oxygen. During the supernova, they create heavy elements. In fact, Betelgeuse in Orion is about to go supernova!

🔴So sorry I've been off the grid lately. Unfortunately my mother passed away and I had to spend much more time than I thought to get the house ready for sale while doing the professor job at the same time. But now I'm back and there's much more to come! Check out more videos about stars here: kzread.info/head/PLrAnGxL8nxOET_FfZinl5Z-JHrH41OpZ-

My sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. I lost my father a few years ago. I remember him getting me my first telescope and later teaching me how to grind a mirror for my first reflector. A few years ago while explaining how telescopes work to my daughter I realized my father's voice was still alive and well within me. I only know you from the fine videos that you produce but I have to believe your mother would be immensely proud of the good work you do. Thank you!

My mum also passed away in September 2019. I could not be with her, since I was far away. I remember working that day, preparing to teach at university - with less energy but more passion than ever. As a judge, she inspired me to seek a greater purpose in my career than amassing wealth: to enrich society with my work, be curious and supportive. Thank you inspiring moms! We love you, and we will never forget you. Pro tip: let your mom hear that, while she is still alive. Some people do not fully realize what they mean to the people around them.

What a lovely tribute to your mother, she would have been incredibly proud of where this channel has gotten to 🤍 I lost my mother in her 3rd bout of cancer so I can appreciate how much of a fighter Cecilia was. And I know this video was 2 years ago but please don't feel you need to apologise for taking time away... _nothing_ is more important than family. Both my mum & dad were instrumental in fostering my love of learning everything science, arts & engineering-related so I frequently think of them when I learn new things in videos like yours... and while I absolutely miss being able to share all these new discoveries with them, over time some of the sadness has been replaced with appreciation for this gift that they've given to me. So thank you for sharing your knowledge 🤍

On a more somber note I'd like to offer my condolences about your mother. I too have recently experienced the worst part of life, the end. My fiance and soulmate, my beloved Larz, unexpectedly and tragically passed just 3 weeks ago due to complications following surgery. My whole universe was shattered when his physical existence in this one ceased, everyday is a tsunami of overwhelming depression, I cannot wait to see him again. But in the meantime thank you for continuing to make these videos, the only thing that has been able to provide any meaningful amount of distraction and joy is watching videos related to my major (astrophysics) or my other "nerdy" passion, that being dinosaur paleontology. I hope Larz and your mother are each soaring through the cosmos waiting for us to all be reunited in eternity.

Man outstanding video it really teaches a lot about how stars work and how we got here.. I’m very sorry to hear about that loss at the end that is extremely difficult to deal in any circumstance. I am inspired by your videos they interest and teach me a lot about astronomy and the universe I will continue to watch these videos to learn all that I can.

Kudos to our late mothers. To experience our human lifetimes is probably the greatest gift the universe could give us. It took a supernova and a mother to get the job done.

Thank you for your wonderful videos, which I have found to be the one of the most informative on astronomy on YT. I am honoured to be able to be a supporter and will be sharing your channel with our kids' high-school science teachers. I have been going through your past videos and was sorry to hear about your loss of your mother earlier this year. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Otherwise, I was wondering if you have ever produced a video on gravitational lensing or whether thrre would be interest in a video on various citizen-scientist projects, such as those witb Zooniverse. I was thrilled to be part of, say, the "Ice Hunters" project on identifying potential Kuiper belt objects.
