It's just that referee was ignorant and if she just gave the point properly, no yelling would have progressed.

I don’t have a problem with the mistake. I can totally see why she thought it was 4. I have a HUGE problem seeing the ego and disrespect she showed throughout the match. She was on a power trip and refs like her shouldn’t play a part in competitions at this high level. Yes Japan ended up winning but if Canada rolled with that momentum they could have taken the set, bringing them back in the game to some extent. I’m both Canadian and Japanese so I don’t have a bias, but I hate to see people like her in at this level.

The thing that made me furious is that she refuse to acknowledge a protest by the whole team. It's not even that hard for her to check with how many cameras there are in the Arena.

I am pretty sure with their honest reputation, most referee take what Japan's team said seriously... If they really touch it 4 times, they will not protest that call... I understand if she insist on her call if only 1 player protest... But this time, the whole team protest that call including the coach... How big is your ego that you ignore the whole team protest?? Is it so hard for you to look up and watch the big screen to confirm your call?? She has no problem using the big screen to confirm that the ball hit Otsuka last when Canada team protest... But refuse to do so when the Japan team protest that 4 touch call... This egoistic behaviour by the first referee in a match as important as Quarterfinal is unforgivable... Imagine if this happen in Olympics??

The Japanese team is a fair play team that has earned so many green cards. And yet, unusually, all members of the Japanese team argued quite strongly that the referee was wrong. This referee, who stubbornly ignored them from the top of his head, appears to have no aptitude as a referee.

like, when I ref my rec league games, do I sometimes miss a call? Absolutely. But damn, if I had a replay available to me, that would be such an awesome resource just to get it right.

Making bad calls and mistakes is part of being a ref. Refusing to look at the video replay is the problem.

レフェリーは Angela Grass(BRA)。東京五輪で五十嵐カノアがブラジル人から大量の人種差別的誹謗中傷を受け、 最近ではサッカーのウルグアイ代表のロドリゴ・ベンタンクールの韓国代表のソン・フンミンに対する人種差別発言の件しかり南米の東洋人差別は彼らにとっては水のような存在。 南米で黒人、ユダヤ人に対する人種差別は悪い、御法度と育ってきたが東洋人に対してはガチで悪い事とすら思わない文化で育っている。 そいう人達を相手にしているという事を前提にして対応していかないと。

1戦目の20-19の時、日本の4タッチに対してカナダに猛抗議された時は、映像確認して誤審を認めていたのに、日本の時は頑なに認めなかった。チャレンジ項目はないが、副審に確認したり、映像を確認することはできるのに、それをしなかったのはなぜ？った感じです😡あと判断つかない時は、ノーカウントで試合再開させることもできます。

She was even on POV where she would be able to judge that it was 3 touches. Lock this lady away from Volleyball.

公式が、このように問題提起をしてくれてとても嬉しい。 この審判に差別的な意図があったか否かは置いておいて、アジア人はいつも肩身の狭い思いをしてきたので、公平に扱って貰えて感動している。これが普通になって欲しい。

Why did she not watch the replay, I get that from her angle it looked like a touch, but from the other angle it is easy to see, he was 20cm away from touching the ball. I work with VAR in football, so I know the value of replays, and how easy you can credit out things like this.

You should have also shown Canada's 4 touches in this very same match that she didn't call (1st set, Canada 19 - Japan 20) just to highlight how incompetent this up ref was.

The ref was completely wrong here. 1) The blocker didn't touch the ball at all, the ball clearly flew over his hands as seen on the camera, and then we had 3 touches (the pancake safe low to the floor + forearm pass + and another forearm dive to finally take the ball over to the opponent's side) 2) I think the ref kept insisting that on the second touch (during the "forearm pass") two players touched the ball quickly. If you pause this video at exactly 1:00 you can see the ref's line of sight and where the problem occurred. The guy who passed the ball was basically blocking the line of sight of the ref. The ref COULDN'T SEE what actually happened there. So she thought 2 touches occurred there at the same time, and then the 4th one would be a violation of course. She couldn't see clearly, and it's understandable. It's a mistake on her part. That's why line judges, and cameras exist in Volleyball, so that you can make sure what happened if YOU ALONE didn't see it exactly. The problem is that the ref was too stubborn to check the camera to see what actually happened. That's what I don't like.

As a Brazilian, i am so sorry for this ref she was on a power trip she needs to be banned from refereeing altogether, love to Japan and Canada

What I love about this is that Japanese players like Yamauchi and Kai posted on their insta story this same issue. lol They are not backing down even though they won. Japanese people are known for their honesty and discipline. Even in these matches , they right away admit their mistake without waiting for the other team to put up a challenge. This woman who should have no business refereeing any volleyball match should be banned! I've been watching international volleyball matches and she's the first to have done this! I can't believe she had the audacity to be stubborn and pull that ego crap in an international match where everyone could see and check through technology. She's such a moron for doing that. I hope she is dismissed from her post right then and there!

目視できるジャッジの範囲なので、チャレンジの項目にはないかもしれませんが、 せめて副審を呼ぶとか、映像を確認してみるとか「私は公平なジャッジをしていますよ」と アピールもしていません。 １セット目のカナダの４ヒットも見逃してますし、大塚くんの頭に当たったワンタッチも 目視できなかった。 国際大会の主審としてどうなんでしょう。

@@user-tg8zs1py9q 長文になりそうからすみません🙏🏻 主審の視点から言うと、ブロックアウトはチャレンジされる可能性があるため、選手が詐欺する可能性が低くなります。 時間を節約するため、相手チームの選手に見られているブロックアウトは通常、自ら認めるようになりました。このようにするとグリーンカードを獲得することができ、チームにとって損失はありません。 が、チャレンジできない項目については、選手に騙される可能性を完全に排除することはできません。（可能性だけを話しています）。また、会場のスクリーンでのテレビ放送リプレイは公式の参照情報ではないため、主審がそれを見たとしても、自身の判定を変更する理由にはなれません（これは非公式な情報源による自身の判定の上書きになりますので）。 その場合、主審ができることは、試合終了後に日本の選手やコーチに謝ることだけです。その1点が試合の結果に大きく影響を与えたとしても... 申し訳ありませんが、日本語力は低いですが、伝えたいことを最大限に表現すること頑張りました😅

誤審は人間なのでゼロにするのは難しいと思う。 問題はあそこまで抗議を受けたのに頑なにリプレイを観ることを拒んだことじゃないかと。既に自分の間違いには気づいていて、それを受け入れたくないからこそスクリーンにも目を向けなかったように見える。

She didn't look up at the replay on the big screen bcs she knows she made a mistake but her ego doesn't want to admit it. Onodera is honest player and as a middle blocker he has sharp instincts, he always know when he touch the ball or not and he will tell you that. @jean8659 Yeah. After a block, Canada protest that the ball hit Otsuka before going out. At first, the referee did not see the ball hit Otsuka and gave that point to Japan. But she then look at the big screen and change the decision. It's not something that Canada can challenge but she willing to use big screen to confirm it. That's why people furious at her when she refuse to use big screen to confirm that 4 touch call eventhough the whole Japanese team protest about it.

there’s a replay system for this exact purpose and she just didn’t even bother to make a fair assessment. highly unprofessional especially in such a tournament, she’s not cut out to be a ref.

I'm pretty sure she did ignore the 4 touches in Canada too.. Even the Commentators was speechless when they saw the replay. No one refuted or said anything that they had 4 touches. But when it's Japan, you know that they know when they really had 4 touches. You know it's bad enough when 1 player is arguing with you. BUT the TEAM and the COACH? Then you know you fuked up. Atleast watch the replay before arguing. Not to mention, there was alot of people that witnessed her massive ego. Even the Announcers were just plain out roasting her. I just rewatched the vid and I forgot to mention her hands. She was basically blocking them and being ignorant.

Making mistakes is inevitable. However Ignoring the players' claims and not getting confirmation is not something that can be appreciated in an international sporting event, much less in an important match of this level.

I knew that why I love team Japan so much because they are always honest I'm respectful for Japan keep fighting and go to the semifinal 🤍💪

At this level too that’s unbelievable.

The Japanese, in particular, are traditionally very averse to fraudulent behaviour, so they are not the first to cheat. I was appalled that the referee did not try to confirm her decision in any way, even though the Japanese team were all saying that it was wrong. (She could have asked the assistant referee for confirmation, or looked at the big screen, or any number of other ways.) This was a truly unbelievable and disappointing attitude from the referee at a crucial moment in the final stages of the match. Commentator really trying to justify the stupid decision by saying one point won't decide the match. One point can shift the momentum. One point can shut down momentum. One point gives the potential for an ace. One point is just as important as all the others. Just cause players make more mistakes doesn't mean refs should be exempt from the consequences of their bad decisions. She made a bad call, someone in her ear piece needs to inform her. What is so hard about communicating it to the ref?

I don't think they're trying to justify the mistake. I think they're trying to gloss it over so the commentary can proceed. They have been quite openly saying that the referee made a mistake up to that point, but when the referee refused to revoke that call, they had to smooth things out to go back to the match commentary.

The call error is fine, refs are humans, her behavior afterwards was unacceptable. My guess is she actually realized she's wrong but didn't want to admit it. She even refuse to check the replay. I mean everyone even the commentator said, look up on the big screen, but she didn't. That kind of behavior is exactly how someone who wants to avoid responsibility does.

人間の目だから見誤ることはあるのはわかるよ。もちろんプライドもって審判してるのも分かる。でも誇り持ってプレーしてる選手が、チーム全体で抗議してるのに意地張ってスクリーン見ることもしないとは考えられない。 カナダの時は確認してたから余計に腹が立つ。 こんなことが黙認されるルールなんておかしいだろ。 流れが大事なスポーツで絶対にあってはいけない。1点の重み舐めんなよ。
