How Many Places Are Named After Queen Victoria? (Spoiler: A lot)
Let's wait till someone mentions that the current president is the 45th, not realising there was one president who was both 22nd and 24th in the number list, will be fun :)

Victoria is the capital of British Columbia because when the border was made they didn't want to give up a portion of Vancouver Island to the USA. New Westminster was originally the capital.
On the subject of US states and cities named after monarchs, I think my favorite is North and South Carolina being named after King Charles I/II. Even better is the largest city in the Carolinas, Charlotte, being named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg, was also in the first county to openly write a decree declaring (though allegedly and debatably), independence, almost a year before the us as a whole sent their declaration. Despite this they gladly have a white crown on a green background as their city flag.

To be fair, a lot of European countries drove on the left until the 20th century. When Sweden switched over in the 60s, a lot of accidents occurred. :( The primary reason the UK, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus never made the switch is because... they never needed to, being island nations that make it impossible to drive into another country without a long-distance drive like the Chunnel. (Same with Australia, for that matter.)

The capital of British Columbia is what it is because that's what it took to integrate the island with the mainland. It was previously New Westminster.

Most main streets in NZ towns ans cities are called either Queen st or King st named after the king or queen of the day in which it was built. Thus most are named after queen victoria as most towns started in the middle to late 1800's in NZ.
@Liggliluff

There are streets in Sweden basically translating to "king-street" and "queen-street", of course, relating to the Swedish royalties and not the British. But I guess ibx2cat would claim it's indirectly referencing the British royal family ;)
There is also QVB in Sydney Queen Victoria Building, a massive shopping centre and old school arcade, not gaming unfortunately. There is also the suburb of Victoria Park and East Victoria Park in Perth Western Australia. There might be many more in Australia as well :)

In both Alameda and Santa Clara counties in California we have a small chain of Mexican restaurants named La Victoria because the first one was opened in a Victorian house in down town San Jose.

Margarita Pizza is named after Queen Margarita of Italy who (according to legend) ordered the specific pizza at a restaurant in Naples
Good video! Just to clarify, although Victoria is the Spanish word for Victory, Ciudad Victoria in Mexico is named after the first Mexican president, Guadalupe Victoria.
I live in a suburb called Mount Victoria in Wellington NZ. We even have a statue of her in the middle of the main street.
I can confirm, the station in Athens said "St. Biktorias" Greece doesn't have a V for some reason. I don't know why they chose for a B there. Also the script doesn't have a name but the Greek script.
I actually live in a town named after Queen Elizabeth :p
Viktoria Square in Athens had original name was Kyriakou. It was renamed Viktoria in honor of the Queen of the United Kingdom on the occasion of the annexation of the Ionian Islands to Greece in 1864, as a gift to the enthronement of the Queen's nephew, Prince Christian William Ferdinand Adolf George of Denmark, later George I of Greece. So basically they appointed a pro-British king in Greece (prince Phillip's granddad) and the UK gave them a pat on the back by giving them a bunch of islands and then Greece gave the UK a pat on the back and named a square after Victoria.
Welcome back to "and the world and stuff"!!!!!

You are confusing queen consorts (wives of monarchs) with ruling queens. As almost every king married, some more than once, there are a lot more queens if you count queen consorts. Fun fact: the husband of a ruling queen is not called a king. That's sexist but that was not thought of as an issue when the terminology was invented. The term "Prince Consort" was invented by Q Victoria, but is only used for her Albert. The spouse of the current Queen is simply a Prince. Fun fact: being England there has to be an exception to the rule that a wife of a ruling King is not a ruling Queen: William and Mary were joint rulers, so that Q Mary was a ruling Queen after all.

Didn't know that the current president is the 45th, thanks for the interesting commentary
One of the main streets in Prince George, the largest city in the northern part of British Columbia, is Victoria Street. I suspect it's actually named for the provincial capital given that many of the streets in Downtown are named for other major Canadian cities, but the capital is named for the queen.
This does make me happy
Thank you for alluding to many places in Latin America that are also named Victoria in one way or another. There is a tiny minority of them - especially in Argentina, with its erstwhile extensive informal-empire British influence - that were indeed named after Queen Victoria, such as Colonia Victoria (in Misiones province, and first colonized by British immigrants). However, most of those are just Spanish (as mentioned) or Portuguese for "victory", and there are places in Mexico (such as Ciudad Victoria) named after its first president, Guadalupe Victoria.
In Riverside, CA. We also have a giant street called Victoria
North and South Carolina are also named for King Charles I. Queens in New York is named after Catherine of Braganza.
“Hello I’m so gone walking bag so in a second channel video” 😂
Victoria Square in Athens was named after Queen Victoria after she offered the Ionian Islands to Greece as a gift for choosing Prince George of Denmark as the new king of Greece in 1864.
It's a good marketing strategy.
Smack bang in the middle of Adelaide (capital of South Australia) is Victoria Square.
Queen Victoria founded the word fortnite, she is quite contravercial
N. Carolina, and S. Carolina named after Charles I. New York named for Duke of York, later James II. Charles was executed, James deposed.
Victoria Stations in Athens was named in honour of Queen Victoria after the Ionian Island were gifted to Greece
Thought there were 44, than i forgot Grover Cleveland existed
Some comments: In Malta, Victory & Victoria seem synonymous, and I imagine that is possible elsewhere in the world. Most of the English monarchical names in the United States were named when those places were colonies of England, before the very successful Revolution The French names are obvious because those areas were French first, before they became a part of the U. S.. Also, Americans were greatly appreciative of France's help in the Revolution. Many of Canada's major cities happen to be located along the major waterways which just happen to be on the southern border with the U. S., which are also the warmest regions in Canada.
(4:30) But what is the native name for that lake for those countries? For example, the Baltic Sea is known as the Easter Sea in Swedish.

in brisbane queensland, we have the QE2 hospital, the queen elizabeth the second hospital
Now for the things with 'Peach' in their name from Georgia.
Don't forget that the London Underground has a Victoria station. also, i live close by many many victorias.
Brazil also have a "Victoria" big city, it is capital of the Espirito Santo State.
i live on one of those roads named after queen victoria
Why did Canada choose to put a capital so close the US boarder? Wellllll mostly all of Canada's cities in general are close the US boarder....But just because Canadians live close to the boarder does not mean they are American or even remotely close to being so, its still a very different world when you cross that boarder.
Every town in canada with more then 500 people has a Victoria street
The state of New York was named after James II 's previous title Duke of York
I think the station or what ever it was in Greece was named after Queen Victoria was because she was related to their royal family.
Nice vest
Great video, but you forgot about Victoria Falls. Also, unclaimed land in Queensland, Australia, is still known as "Queen Victoria land". The number of places and landmarks in Queensland named after Queen Victoria is extraordinary. I doubt they are all on that Wikipedia list. What can I say? Aussies love the motherland royalty!
The four directions according to Australia: North, South, West, and Queen Victoria. If everything goes well, soon all directions will be the Queen, and the British empire will rise again to make a new world under one great flag, the Union Jack. God save the Queen :)
i don't think they would let me rename any places to victoria, so i'll do my part by naming all of my future children after her instead
I myself live on Victoria Street in Cannock, UK 😂 We have two streets within 2 miles with the same name ✌️
