    With massive national debt anything is possible. What I find interesting is not the people that buy these cars, but the people that can afford these cars and don't. Just in my neighborhood I have a few people in here that can buy a million dollar car every month and not bat an eye and they don't. Got the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the world, like Top 50 companies in the world, has an A8L W12 and a Testarossa, a few pro-athletes with SuperBowl and NBA championships and they have things like Huracans or Bentley Continentals, one has an older Phantom too. When you see the guys spending a million plus on a car, they usually tend to be more often the Salomondrin type of people than the Mark Zuckerberg type of people which I find concerning.

    people tend to forget inflation when looking at cars as investments though. and there are many ways to make money. if you had bought property in any area where the population was growing in 2006, it would be worth at least twice as much now, too, and you could have made profits by renting it to someone for 12 years. it's easy to say "yeah but you can drive the car" -12 years is a long time, you could have crashed it or it could have gotten fatal mechanical failures and maintance, insurance and taxes are expensive as hell at least in germany. what I'm saying is ferrari F40 -> never was a good investment, only a short term investment when the prices spiked within 1-2 years. after substracting inflation that would have been a decent investment, but at the time it was also risky as hell. today everyone looks at them and it seems like it was the best investment you could have ever made but that's far from true. half a million in the late 80s is equal to several million today and if you invested in any other legit business/property/thing you would have made a lot more money. it's the same with many german cars like porsches, bmws, mercedes -> prices doubled within ~10 years but you have to realize that in germany the real inflation since 2000 sums up to 80-100%, so many of the iconic cars which doubled their prices over this period of time barely gained any actual value. TL;DR -> cars aren't investments, the only cases where you would have made lots of money on a car are always risky investments so you have to compare them to other risky investments like for example bitcoin or investing in 3rd world countries. -> the only good aspect about "car investments" is the "driving it for free" part but if you substract inflation and consider your expenses (insurance, maintance, taxes) at least in germany it's almost impossible to even drive a car "for free" by selling it after a few years. so it's the best way to drive nice cars without spending to much, but at the same time it's not that clever and not that profitable.

    This video is so on point. I’m sure other viewers will know a man named Dennis in Houston. He’s older and bought the Carrera GT that had about 385 miles on it that Doug demuro reviewed. He was trying to get a 918 at the time but couldn’t. Fast forward about a year later and I show up to the car meet and he’s in a Mexico blue 918. He built a giant warehouse for all of his cars. He’s got some insanely expensive classics too. He’s buying all of his cars now like you mentioned after investments and business has been well.

    The last thing he says is super important. The more these cars appreciate, the more they will be out on the streets. If you can not loose money on your favorite toy by using it, what stops you from daily driving it? And seeing engineering marvels out on the street is an enrichment for everyone.

  • @herberthans7015

    @herberthans7015

    I disagree. The more expensive a car is, the more money you need to buy it. The more money you have, the less time you've got. For example if only CEOs can buy legendary drivers cars then they will rot in garages because most of these people barely have time for hobbys. Also the more money you have the more you value your life. So you're not gonna go out mobbing in a vintage road-legal racecar. You can already see these cars disappearing from the markets and roads and even though there are some maniac billionaires who like to have fun these are the exceptions, not the average. For example the sons of sheiqs mobbing around in fast cars. If they are really driving these cars fast then there's a high chance they might destroy them because like I said they don't have time to understand the mechanics of a car and if they are about having fun any partying they most likely don't care about braking stuff and spending money either. So in my opinion it's the complete opposite.

  • @stephen3164

    @stephen3164

    5 жыл бұрын

    I disagree (a bit). If you can daily drive a 250GTO and not lose a cent, that means you can also store it and it will increase in value - and the only thing these high end car collectors like better than bragging about what cars they own is to run the car back across the auction block 2 years later and brag to their friends how much they made on the car’s appreciated value.

  • @herberthans7015

    @herberthans7015

    5 жыл бұрын

    Also, since there are no more really profitable investments around and cars hold their value as good as gold they start to become assets like gold bars and get stored away in safes. Classic cars, iconic cars and drivers cars all become to expensive to buy for people who want to race them therefore they are going to be driven less, I can't agree with the logic you and him are using.

    What I liked the most is what you said about miles near the end. The more unique and valueable the car, the less miles matter and the more people concentrate on history and condition, as it should be. You can kinda see this with 993 Turbos. Even though there were "a lot" of them made, examples with relatively high miles aren't worth much less than their lower mile counterparts.

    Ed, there are a few factors that may be better indicators. One is "Inventory versus Demand", where you graph average car inventory against the average number of days the car is listed "for sale". Another indicator would be type of loans (because not all million dollar loans are equal). Just look at the housing market right before the '08 crash, and you can see why this would be a good indicator. Also, you could compare total amounts financed versus percentage of loans in good standing.

    Part of what has blown this up is the auction prices on Muscle cars. This caught the attention for people that cars can be an investment. A lot have started collecting them and went on from there. This brought on the realization that you can profit on a car a massive amount on a car and not be taxed on it. Real estate, stocks, inheritance, etc... all bring on heavy tax. Sell your Ferrari GTO for a 10 million dollar profit without a tax hit and you'll be excited as it gets and buy more. They are an investment that isn't taxed on profit that you can also enjoy them while you have them.

    It's hard to say how that metric translates. We're seeing more and more concentrated wealth than ever before. So one guy might own five separate million dollar cars, but he's also locking millions of dollars away from the economy that could be circulating instead.

    Hey Ed, Lenny from Revzilla put out an article along the same lines a few months ago. Basically was saying that when old school Harley’s reach a new high, it usually foretells a stock market top shortly thereafter. He showed some statistics at 2000 and 2007 and was bang on. I was actually thinking lately, considering the rate that KZreadrs flip cars and what the are buying them for, seems like every bubble is about to burst. How do we set up ourselves to buy that GT3 RS on a fire sale in a year or two?

    I find the used car market specifically the JDM car market in Australia which I am an expert in has boomed because of 1. We are further away from the 90's when most of these cars were built 2. The U.S. 25 year rule has inflated the price of early 1990's models as we now have to compete with US bidders at auction 3. The models that we love have not been replaced by newer models. A perfect example is turbo supra which were 20-35k 10 years ago now selling for 40k+ and r32 gtr's which could be bought for less than 20k are now starting at 40k. The only model which has seen continued depreciation is the evo this is an example of a car which has been updated up untill the 2010's. People are willing to shell out more for these cars because they offer an ownership expierence similar to an exotic however not on the same level. Exotic car sales are not big in Australia due to a list of reasons as long as my arm however the most substantial is probably our attitude and regulations around the finance sector.

I have a buddy who bought a Tesla model X for just over 100K, but the thing is, he got something like a 9 year loan because he could not really afford the car, so I dont really think all these people can truly afford the car, perhaps more people are just buying stuff they cant afford, but that is just my thought

    Joeys Cleaning Lady well you can't be very accurate anyway because you need to know how much of these cars haven't been totaled in crashes and how many of those cars are hidden in collections, some old muscle cars cost even 5 million for being 1 of 1 specification models. From watching youtube I have seen like 2000 of those cars easily, Bugatti made 450 of just Veyrons.

  • @joeyscleaninglady2877

    @@kingcs6273 You have seen 2000 million dollar+ cars, on youtube totaled? A million dollar car is a high threshold to meet. Perhaps what this video is alluding to is that there are 30,000 cars that were worth a million at one time or another. For example, Ferrari Daytona's were million dollar cars previously, same with other cars. Many previous million dollar cars are only worth a fraction of that today.
