I forgot to mention it in the video but no, the Challenge Stradale is not mine. Just babysitting it for an out-of-town friend for a couple months. The problem is that most houses use the garage space as liveable space and incorporate it into the rest of the house.

My realtor asked what I wanted in a house. My response was a garage for my 4 bikes and a fenced in yard so I didnt have to walk the dog every morning. She said , what else , I said thats it. She couldnt believe her ears.

My wife and I bought our home in 1981 for $54,000.00. it didn't have a garage, but what it did have is a septic system with a drain field that took up most of the back yard. Finally in the early 2000s, they brought city sewer down my road. After years of laying on my back, pulling engines and transmissions, I now had the chance to get my garage. I built a 26 x 56 two story with two two-post lifts and three bays. I can now store five cars in my garage. It's not a dream garage, but it is a huge improvement over a driveway and a jack.

I purchased my house when the market was in the toilet as well. Got a great deal and a low interest rate. Only had one car garage though. A few years later I built a steel building behind the house and a driveway that branches off of my original driveway. Put a lift in and it’s awesome. Do all kinds of work in there and can store 4 cars inside now.

Totally agree with Ed. We did it a little differently, as we lived in the ghetto for 7-8yrs while saving to build our "forever home". Granted we always had nice vehicles to drive, but living there allowed us to save to put a substantial amount down on our forever home which we designed ourselves and contracted out to build. There was 3 main things on my list. #1 I wanted a bigger than normal garage, I hate houses were garages are so small you can barely get out of your own vehicle so mine has a 25x25 garage where our daily vehicles go. #2 I wanted a shop for my personal use that could accommodate a 2-post lift and went with a 2000sqft shop with 3 14x14 roll ups, this is where the SLC and Hayabusa stay along with plenty of left over space to use and work on stuff. #3 doesn't apply here, but I wanted a movie room. Rest of the house I didn't really care about design, as long as I approved of what the wife was doing. 4yrs later I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Wish I had that kind of garage. I own 2 rx8s and my dad owns one. My mom and dad own 3 other cars and my sister has one too. With 7 cars we pretty much have no space where I live and the garage well.. it's my room lol

Sales Agent: How many garage spaces do you require? Ed: Yes.

The struggle is real, our solution was to buy the house we wanted, then buy the property next door. 4 covered spots, drive way for more and the mother in law has her own space. Maybe next time I can figure a way to do it without the mother in law....

We must have a part 2 with Ed's wife. I need to know if the powers of shrewd negotiating truly radiate in the Bolian household.

I am about to start house shopping and the garage is a key requirement. This is both horrifying and encouraging at the same time.

This is my favorite KZread channel. I live in Atlanta and can deeply relate to Ed’s stories. Keep up the great work!

Best thing I’ve found for car enthusiasts is buying a house in an aviation community. You can have whatever size house you want with a conventional garage and you also have a 4000sqft + hangar. Second best thing is the “cardominium” which are easily found in regional/ small local airports. Your home is built into the hangar itself. These places are exactly where I want to be.

Going through the comments its funny how most people say that start the day with your video. I'm from Europe and I get them at 4pm, so just perfect to relax after work :) One thing that is also worth mentioning, other than the great garage, is that the House itself is absolutely beautiful! Congratulations Ed

It killed me when i finally tried to park something in my "3 car" garage after i bought my house... It is insanely short! My Colrado could fit if the front bumper was to the wall. The third stall being sorter than the other two meant there was no possibility of parking anything but a smart car in there. My wife wants a new kitchen.. i want a garage extension!

I have a “three” car garage and it’s basically like 2 normal sedans and a Miata in the back stall. You could probably park three normal sized cars in it but you’d have like literally an inch between bumper and wall, and bumper to garage door. We just use a car port (tacky I know) and park two cars under it. Then we have one other parked behind the port in the drive way and two on the street. We need to clean our garage and put some in there but there’s three motorcycles (not my thing) in the garage currently.

What a beautiful house! I just finished building mine, not nearly that extravagant as yours but I did build a 4 car attached garage with extra space as well as a 40x80 toy barn next to the house (still in process of finishing) . Looking forward to filling it with more toys!

My wife is a realtor and we went through this up here in WI about 2 years ago. Looked at a bunch of terrible houses with moderate "garages" then stumbled upon a decent (yet dated) house with an old cabinet shop (2400 sq ft steel I besm building), "4" car garage (fits 6), and attached 2 car garage for the daily drivers. Needless to say we made an offer right away and bought it. Been doing a ton of remodeling but it's worth it. Great find with your house Ed! Owning 12 cars a camper and a boat I truly understand the struggle.

That house is damn beautiful. I certainly understand the pain of searching for a multi-garage house. When my dad wanted to 'upgrade' he really wanted to store all the family's cars inside, because in Belgium it freezes half of the time. But finding a house with 4-car garages is near impossible unless you are willing to spend a million+ on a house, which he can't. Still looking.

I'm always amazed at how cheap real estate is in the south... My wife will watch house-buying shows based in Texas or North Carolina and the prices are so cheap. Obviously there are many factors in price, but I assume that's easily 1.5+mil here in the northeast - much more if it's closer to or on the ocean. Congrats, Ed.

It seems like when you have them at your shop/warehouse they tend to get deglected to an extent and sometimes it becomes more of a pain to go take those ones out. I am so glad to hear that people have the same issue with garages and house listings as I do.

A few years ago I bought a nice large garage in a decent part of town with a long driveway for extra cars. The wife was happy it also came with a house.

As a single guy with no kids, no pets and self employed I prayed I could build out an apartment inside a big shop but zoning has stopped me so far. I would love to pull my corvette or ducati up to my couch.

That's crazy. No one ever made an apartment in a big shop! That fold-out happened to be the only couch I have; the large water heater is because we have so many customers that wash their hands that the hot water runs out; the kitchen is actually a "kitchenette" to whip up a quick roast while on break; and there's nothing wrong with having a TV in my office. No, of course I don't actually live there. I only go there for work.

The issue about not asking is commercial properties are inspected for code and if they see someone living in there you'll not only get in trouble but you will have to get another place to live. I didn't want to risk paying for two places. But...but.... I found a place this week that's perfect. 1 bed 1 bath long 1 car garage that could fit a 2 post lift and washer dryer. 750 a month and it's 1.5 miles from my work. I move in next month.

Garage goals for sure.

I agree with this, when I can finally afford a house, I want it to have a space for me to work on my cars and store my cars, but it seems these days, there is just not enough space for us to build garages of the appropriate size on a typical suburban development...

I once looked at a converted hangar that basically had a two bedroom mobile home perched on it. Damn nice garage though.

I had to go the other way, buy enough property and build a 2,400 sq ft garage. All the 'attached' type structures we were finding in SFL were a joke.

I knew a guy that had a double wide trailer, and it was jacked up high enough to where the entire area under the double wide trailer home was garage space. it was glorious.

Ed Bolian is an inspiration. He's so intelligent and outgoing - just seems like an awesome guy to be around. I would love the opportunity to just hang out with him and pick his brain

My parents have been going through this same thing for years in the Sacramento area. We have 21 cars and of course, there's nothing out there that can fit that specific need. After 2 years of searching, they finally found a place just outside of Sacramento that overlooks Folsom Lake that has space for 12 cars underneath the house. Still, this obviously isn't enough and wanting to move out of California entirely, they've decided to build their dream house where I currently live in Logan Utah. While the house itself will have a "normal" 4 car garage on the main level, underneath the house, they are building what I refer to as "the bat cave." It is enough space for 19 cars plus a workshop for restoring and working on them. Additionally, they are configuring a space within this construction to allow them to wash the cars in the winter. Construction won't be starting for another year or so, but I will send pictures and video when it's under way.

I live where so many people are flocking to from California. They bitch about taxes and cost of living etc in cali. Yet they still vote the California urban way. Now my gov and state Senate and House is left as can be and taxes are going to skyrocket here. Definition of insanity. California is full of moron that are spreading like locust. Utah is just another one of those amazing states they are f'ing up.

Finding a house with a garage to support my car hobby is difficult enough but once I include all my other hobbies the garage requirement turned into a “space for a metal building” requirement. Best decision ever.

I sympathize with this problem. I ended up building a new house with a four car garage for the most frequently used cars and a seperate six to eight car workshop for the project cars down the back. My commute went from 35km to 70km, but the commute time is the same as it's mostly open freeway, not clogged suburban arterial roads.

wow Ed, only $1,000 a month for 5,000 sq/ft warehouse in 2010....i was paying $1,264 for a 1,180 sq/ft apartment in 2006

Or you could be like Feretti and build a house with a nice garage Then have it get rejected....

Wow beautiful garage Ed. The house looks nice too.

Currently I'm living in my peterbilt and when I'm home I have a 10x30 storage with a generator, tools, and my shelby cobra. It's across from a truck stop so I have showers and I sleep in my truck. I couldn't be happier. I just go home every other weekend for cars and coffee or to ride my kayak.

Ah the recession. I cleaned out a house with 7 garage spaces, 2 attached, 2 driveways, 1 large living space for 2 with 3 other rentals spaces attached. Nice front yard, nice backyard. Needed some work, but nice, livable as it was. Nowhere near where I wanted to live.

Congratulations Ed! My wife and I are in the market to buy our first home. We're here in Houston TX so it's not as hard to find the right home. However, being a car guy my main concern is my garage capacity also. It's so funny and crazy we car guys think the same! I will definitely be sharing this video with my wife today. I can't wait for her reaction of understanding were I'm coming from. You explained it spot on my friend. Keep up the good work champ!

I just added a 24'x24'10' garage to my small urban house. Loving it--space for both of my small autocross toys (MR2 Spyder and NA Miata). The first house I had in Denver was 867 sq. ft. The garage was 576 sq. ft. Congrats on the new place Ed!

When I saw Ed’s new house in the the video my jaw dropped, gorgeous house man! Hopefully I can find something similar, I’d love to have my cars stored indoors but also have my racing motorcycle attached to the house, probably couldn’t get the race trailer indoors but I’m fine with that one being outside.
