How Many Cycles Does It Take To 100% Majora's Mask?

Ойындар

The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask. That one Zelda game with an insanely pressurising time mechanic only allowing the player three days to progress as much as possible before having to reset the cycle back to day 1.
Have you ever thought how many cycles it would take to fully 100 percent the entirety of Majora's Mask? How many cycles is the minimum needed? I'm here to give that thought an answer.
This run easily beats the last video in terms of difficulity and has topped the craziest thing I've done in the Zelda franchise and I had a blast doing this challenge

    @@Max-qb5ui this is the optimal way to play the game. That mod and texture pack is incredible. Also my favorite game of all time. Tbh I think that I optimized "as few cycles as possible" way better than this video... You can actually beat snowfall without your sword to get the gilded sword in the same cycle you beat the temple. It's hard but it lets you get a LOT done in that cycle. Idk. I didn't record my run so I don't have any hard numbers. But I beat this game in as few cycles as I ever have. I think this guy could have gotten a lot more done in those early cycles if that's the goal. If the goal is a like a speed run and the corresponding time, then that's different. But if the goal is as few cycles as possible....idk I think my "route" was less cycles. I don't speed run this game but I have played the game enough times to know it literally inside and out.

    So quick explanation on why playing the Song of Storms melts the Gibdos. It actually doesn’t. The song fills the spring in the cave, letting a river flow back down Ikana. This river powers a giant wheel strapped to the edge of the music box house Pamala and her dad (a paranormal researcher) live in. This causes the music box to start up, and the music IT makes drives off the Gibdos.

    Hello Smiffic. The part where you dropped the powder keg, it has happened to me a few times. My theory is there is a tiny gap and if you approach it at a certain angle the game acts as if you falling for a micro second and so its drops the keg. Though that's highly unfortunate the wolf was right there to blow it up, very unlucky.

    As a video game dev I can confirm this is mostly what's happening. You can actually see Link enter his "sliding" state for a few frames. as his feet hit the bridge. This clearly indicates that there is a gap; but it's not that Link "falls", he in fact starts sliding down the hill forcing the keg drop.

    Something I liked about the Gibdo Well minidungeon was that, aside from the Magic Beans and Blue Potion, you can get everything you need in the well itself. As such, it kind of blows my mind that it's faster to just leave the dungeon, go pick up a fish from the store, then go back into the dungeon than it is to pick up those items inside the well.

    Depending on what you happen to have on hand, you might be able to take a quick trip to a side room to grab that one thing you missed. Looking at the map tho, the requirement to get to fish under the well is a Blue Potion (or a Red one on 3DS), meaning it'd most likely be easier to just grab a fish elsewhere.

    Here is a big time saving trick I found while doing exactly the same challenge 10 years ago. When fighting the aliens, you actually only have to shoot each of them ONCE in order to stop them from reaching the barn, as long as you wait for them to be extremely close to the barn. The reason for this is that they always respawn at their designated starting point, so shooting them multiple times won't push them further back. This means you have the leasure of leaving the ranch while they are advancing in order to accomplish other tasks in between. As long as you : 1) are present in Romani Ranch the minute the event start; 2) come back later in the night to shoot each of them once (the one coming from behind the house is the one you have to watch out for as he has the shortest path to the barn - once you learn the right timing, it's just a matter of coming back a few minutes before he enters the wall and triggers the failure cutscene); 3) are present in the ranch at the time the event ends. I don't remember the exact timing for each of these 3 steps, but what i DO remember is that I was able to grab a few heart pieces and complete the swamp spider house at the same time as I was "defending" the ranch from the aliens, carefully warping in and out at the appropriate times.

    I haven't watched the video yet, I just want to weigh in on this matter pre-emptively. First off, simply because of elements related to the Couple's Mask Quest, you need at least three different cycles to get all masks and bottles. Everything else can be acquired in those three cycles. It takes foreknowledge to do this though, because you have to be aware not to stop Sakon from stealing the Big Bomb Bags until the third cycle, and instead in the first cycle you want to progress the Couple's Mask quest as far as possible, and in the second cycle you want to actually complete the Couple's Mask quest. You want to grab Kafei's letter to Madame Aroma both times, though what you choose to do with it in either cycle is up to you, so long as you get both rewards. Obviously the biggest part of 100% is the Heart Pieces. Speaking of, during the prologue cycle where you're stuck as Deku Link you should a few Heart Pieces, in particular the Deku Scrub Playground and the one from the toilet hand. Still, as I've said before, with proper time management everything can be gotten in the three cycles allotted by the need to deal with conditional shenanigans revolving around the Couple's Mask quest.

    This video is an absolute joy to watch! Majora’s Mask content will always get me watching and stuff like this just blows my mind because it shows how incredible this game is!! I watched your previous MM video and that one was dope too! With how the game works, it almost feels like an open world game sometimes, like you can do so many things, or you can just do the main story items & equipment, it’s fully up to the player to make it their own unique experience and I love that about the game. Like obviously it’s not open world but it definitely has a lot of choice depending on how much you do, which gives me a similar feeling to open world games!

    If I understand correctly, you did what I always questioned if it was possible since I was a child. Since going back in time resets these kind deeds you do for the NPCs, I wondered if it was possible to beat the game and all side quests in one cycle. First off, I just wanted to say I LOVE this content! I have played through MM so many times (100%, as little upgrades as possible, etc) and I was always so upset about the bomb bag grandma. I want to save everyone in that on three day cycle but it turns out that the old lady HAS to be mugged if you are to unite Anju and Kafei. Part of the reason I love MM because there are always two sides to everything, you can't do it all in one go. Again, awesome content

  • @donq4483

    @donq4483

    11 ай бұрын

    @ajbXYZcool you can, but for a 100% run what happens is you need to give the priority mail to the Postman AND Madame Dotour. If you give it to the Postman you get his hat, but Madame won't give you anything. And vice versa, Madame will give you a new bottle but the Postman is stuck in his room as a result

  • @ajbXYZcool

    @ajbXYZcool

    11 ай бұрын

    @@donq4483 I think there's a misunderstanding. Yes, you have to run Anju/Kafei twice, but getting the Priority Mail requires you NOT save the Bomb Granny. So you have to NOT save her twice in the 100% run. You only actually have to save her once, to both get the Blast Mask and the All-Night Mask.

  • @Dusclops4009

    @Dusclops4009

    @@ajbXYZcool Basically, you save her once, and let her get mugged twice. Saved = Bomb Mask and access to All Night Mask on the Final Night Mugged Once = Priority Mail to Mama Detour to get a Bottle of Chateau Romani Mugged Twice = Priority Mail to give to Postman to get the Postman's Hat So realistically it takes three cycles to complete get 100 percent.

    I've always wanted to figure this out, so thanks for doing it! Interesting how in the end the combination of the Kafei quest and the Bomb Mask lady forces you into playing SoT three times. As a result, I think that means this really doesn't have to be so tightly routed, but I still appreciate you trying to do that Max% day, since that's also always been a question of mine. I would have gone for the Postman cap rather than the extra bottle in the Max% cycle, but since you can't get the All Night Mask and Priority Mail in the same cycle anyway, there's unfortunately no way to do All Masks in one cycle.

    Oot can get pretty nuts with this, to the point that I feel like it's how every Zelda game should be intentionally designed. Jabu Jabu can be done before Dodongo's Cavern as long as you grab the bomb bag. The Forest, Fire, and Water temples can technically be done in any order (though the bow is needed for optional stuff). Finally the Spirit Temple can be finished once the Forest Temple is completed and you have the Longshot. So you could go Deku Tree > Jabu Jabu > Dodongo's Cavern > Water Temple > Forest Temple > Spirit Temple > Fire Temple > Shadow Temple > Ganon's Castle
