    Yes! People must stop thinking of countries as more than they are, which is the equivalent of a file cabinet. Culture, language, and worldview make us who we are; nationality is an insignificant birthmark.

  • @lightscameras4166

    @lightscameras4166

    3 жыл бұрын

    Lone Starr SO TRUE. Nationality is purely a political construct. Your race and ethnicity is what defines you. Even political borders are something we need to transcend. I hope future societies allow for fluid mobility and travel and find a better alternative to passports, visas and border control.

    Ascolano Irl Of course there will be problems at first, it might seem impossible, ending slavery in America seemed impossible but hey then the Civil War came about and slavery was abolished. There should be a less border control universally.

  • @lightscameras4166

    @lightscameras4166

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ascolano Irl I don’t think you got what I said, in fact you are changing the topic. What I am saying is that’s there is a need for a radical redefinition of a “national boundary”, there has to be a better alternative to passports, something more efficient than border control and visas, equal access to all services regardless of citizenship status. Maybe that’s too idealistic, but nonetheless possible

  • @joshuamark9316

    @joshuamark9316

    3 жыл бұрын

    Lone Starr I would like to add that many times, culture and language define political borders. When a single culture inhabits a single country, it's called a nation state. Certain nation states include Japan and Germany. In fact, World War 1 and 2 were partially caused by the lack of Nation states in Europe. Because of this, most borders in Europe are defined specifically with culture and language in mind. This doesn't apply to many countries however, especially in Africa, where most of the borders have been superimposed with little regard to culture by former colonizers, leading to years of struggle and conflict. Nation states exist specifically to stop this kind of devicive conflict between ethnicities and cultures. Wow, sorry. I didn't mean to go on a tangent like this. I guess I'm having flashbacks from my Human Geography class, lol.

    The Generalissimo In 2036 the Vatican will take the gold in: The "100 meter Holy Hand Grenade toss" (Barely beating out the US, whose many MANY Olympic grenade tossers were unaccustomed to these grenades' incredible holiness) The "200 meter Latin chant competition" (Japan will take silver, the UK will take Bronze. Italy will embarrassingly not place) The "Solid Gold Crucifix lift" The "200 meter Scripture writing relay" (Saudi Arabia gave them a run for their money, though) The "most wrinkles competition" (Almost lost to the newest contender Yourmomia) The "100 meter Altar Boy" (which was not televised in some countries) And Pole Vaulting. Weirdly, they only got silver for the "Funniest hat" competition, losing to Team Fortress 2.

    This reminds me of something I've heard before - "a language is a dialect with an army and a navy." Languages are surprisingly hard to define! One of the key differentiators is mutual intelligibility (whether or not you can understand each other) - but speakers of different dialects of chinese can't understand each other, yet speakers of spanish and portuguese languages sometimes can!

  • @SirBenjiful

    @SirBenjiful

    Жыл бұрын

    This doesn’t even get into asymmetric intelligibility, where speakers of one dialect/language can understand the other much better than the inverse (e.g. the Portuguese people I know can often understand quite a bit of Spanish, but Spanish people generally can’t make anything of European Portuguese).

  • @rusticcloud3325

    As a Southeast Asian, I always think of those Chinese so-called "dialects" aren't actually dialects, they are separate languages written in the same writing system. I think it's the same as English and German that both are written in Latin alphabet, but being two separate languages.

  • @harmonicaveronica

    @harmonicaveronica

    @@rusticcloud3325 oh definitely. Ask a linguist and they'll probably say that they're mostly different languages. But politically they're considered a single language, because China is very much invested in having a strong national identity. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have BSC, because for linguists and language learners there is almost no point in trying to actually distinguish between Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian. But politically and culturally they're considered 3 languages

    CGP Grey, out of all the KZread channels and vids I have seen, you are THE ONLY ONE who gives 15-20 seconds at the end of your content before the video ends. Everyone else ends immediately or almost immediately after the content stops. This makes it difficult to pause the video to do various tasks that video viewers like to do at the ends of videos. And the decades of controversy with China and Taiwan was summed up in about the same amount of time. And it all makes sense! It doesn't bother me at all, because the slightly sarcastic narration is so great at poking fun at history and easily explaining the countries' places in the world.

Take about 5-30 minutes per day depending on how active you wanna be and how long and hard you want to think on the issues. I like to think creating a nation in the real world is just as easy as it is in the game. The issue is having others see you as a new nation. Why Texas as far as the US care could literally never split off even if it somehow did.
