@@GothamChess in any case the man is very humble, to broadcast your failures for everyone to see on KZread is him just knowing where he is at. The only thing is man, just forgive yourself. I remember a while ago when you broadcasted you tournament. You recorded on KZread between matches and that is dedication right there. As a viewer I have seen you flop and get too down about it and get harsh about it but bro you may be weak but stronger than the most of us. Don’t think too much about it. Just have fun. All loses are just a path to getting better just see ways you can change your mentality and set it to become the best player ever and it is all good. I would be laughing hearing the time you post and say you beat Magnus Carlsen or some other super chess guy and become one of the best ever. Keep posting even then too. Yo, I am out.

I'm not sure if that's something he said himself, or if it's something another strong player said about him, but it seems that playing weird openings is a way of making sure his opponent can't rely too much on theory opening and/or on strange opening traps. So Magnus is willing to give a little bit of an advantage by playing a move that's not optimal (or else it would be part of the main line), because he deems that he will be able to just outplay anyone when they're in uncharted territory.

5:20 This game is reminding me when you start your journey, when you start to get a feel for the pieces is like they are alive in your head, telling where they can and "want" to move, all the possibilities and responses flowing at the same time, you're like an Westworld Android or Paul Atreides after his awekening, overwhelmed by your own thoughts. it really pushes your System 2 to the limit. It's also the easiest way to do that, to develop the skill of thinking hard and for longer periods of time, of challenging your assumptions (like a Superforcaster would), unless you settle for memorizing the correct playbook move. Is a quite unique experience, you feel like Kaiji playing Mahjong "ugh, my head!".

Really great presentation of content in this vid. I learned a lot from the Keymer-Carlsen game. A subtle point: In this age of computers, there is still a very human way to go about playing chess: Unbalancing positions, knowing when to follow and break rules, continuing to pose problems to your opponent. Maybe what I'm trying to say is that I could really see the narrative behind the Keymer-Carlsen game, and this was because of how well the game was presented. It wasn't about analysing each move, but noting the phases of the game.

You know how when you watch lower rated players, you can identify their patterns and predict the kind of mistakes they tend to make or tactics they dont anticipate. I wonder if there is something specific that Magnus can identify in other grandmasters' games that he could specifically point out that they don't even know. Maybe it's just being more consistent. But maybe there is that little something he knows that gives him that edge.

As Levy said, it seems that he just doesn't give a shit. lol He is never afraid to change the position or whatever. Kinda like how an engine always finds the best move even if a position is lost aand it cant have emotions about it.. Obviously, other GMs can almost always find the best move but Magnus will just completely deviate from what "He should do" or how a position "should be played." and just continue on finding the best moves, and acting like nothing happened. I feel like that messes with even the other top guys. Ever notice how Hikaru does weird faces on stream when he sees something unfamiliar? I feel like Magnus just isnt fazed by anything. A tiny difference like that can matter, just overall mindset. On top of that, he will literally just play a single game for like 12 hours and not care.
