Raising a well-rounded and good-natured individual with enough strength to survive in our increasingly globalized world - should be the general aim of good parenting. Whether a person is competitive by nature, or not - they will have a much easier time integrating into society if they're capable of getting along with different kinds of people - that they will be certain to encounter. Once a person "makes it" in life, they often become complacent. That complacency is the luxury of wealth. I've seen the most prudent and ideologically frugal friends slip, once they had more money than they knew what to do with. Wealth lets you focus on things that you enjoy, and detach from things that are stressful - which unbalances a person's life, since their reference keeps shifting. How can you understand the depth of someone's desperation if you've long forgotten what that feels like? So, I think that ultimately we are all permanently vulnerable to this. The tides of change always carry us around. It's been true for the entirety of recorded history, so it's silly to think that "you" will be any different. And then, we have the mental effects of aging, which will eventually felt by those around us. On the racial topic - the idea of fixating on race as an issue to solve ("equity") is incredibly silly, not least because of the default implications that it asserts. It also invites people with hero complexes to project their idealistic ways of thinking onto everything they do and touch. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that. Whether micro or macro, racial pandering is a horrific thing. It's both demotivating and insulting to suggest to people that "it's ok to underperform, because we'll bring the world down to your level instead". Healthy competition is great for humans. An occasional subpar experience for a kid is FINE - they'll learn from it, both about the world as well as their own place in it. The idea that everyone should be saved from everything bad is absurd. Yet - we now have this in the form of limitations on free speech. Both humans and societies have always evolved "against" something. A standard they had to beat, a challenge they had to overcome, a group effort that required cooperation - large or small. That's why in critical situations, such as in the military, there is no TIME to think about these types of social constructs. People are task-oriented, which is great. It's mentally healthy. On parenting, in my biased view, the biggest "sin" that a parent can commit with respect to their child, is to fail to learn about them. After all, they're future individuals with unique personalities, interests, views on issues etc. I think that parents have to try to make an effort to understand their kids, as one would make to try and understand an important new friend - so that you can find common ground and a common language. I think that parents often underestimate how challenging that can really be.

People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.

Some persons think inves'tin is all about buying stocks; I think going into the stock market without a good experience is a big risk, that's why I'm lucky to have seen someone like mr Brian.

Great points! There’s a lot of other stuff that’s unequal as well like prison sentences for white collar crimes and other crimes. There’s lots of other hypocrisy as well like capital gains tax rates. It’s too bad that SF doesn’t have the best public school system. It really should. I would say that elite beliefs probably also helped Rob get into Yale because he has a very compelling story. One other thing happening in this country is that some people are so resistant to property tax increases that a lot of schools across the country are woefully underfunded.

So is there a list of these "luxury beliefs"? One might think that maybe the concept of belief might have a more foundational origin? As well as a smidgeon of evolutionary influences? Then there is the fact of the denial of objective truths. That we have an unconstitutional, criminal government may also be relevant.
