Been driving for many years now and still I sucked at it sometimes. New or old drivers better to get the feel of the car your driving, before head banging on that music you're playing on. Bought a brandnew car almost ended up in a pothole, hitting the brake and stop thought my engine stalled turn the key to start again. Could not hear the engine because of the music.

I agree! When I first started learning to drive a manual last year, I had to overthink every time I stopped and started. I dreaded every stop sign and red light. Now, starting from a stop isn't a big deal. I start lifting the clutch, give a little gas, and release the clutch once the car starts moving forward. It took a few months to get the process perfected, but now I can do it from muscle memory. And it's true, the more you drive a manual car, the easier it becomes over time.

A lot of people who drive manual cars for many years don't have this down and it's probably because they don't know what the clutch mechanically does. This is a great video to explain the logic behind it. I know so many people who just lift off the clutch pedal because all they know is engage and disengage. There are also a lot of myths with burning/wearing out the clutch if you let it slip for too long so people don't wait long enough.

  • @ConquerDriving

You can overheat the clutch if you let it slip too long. But you can let it slip long enough to allow you to move a manual car smoothly and at low speeds.

Before getting your driving licence in india, You have to apply for learners licence for the category you want licence. You can master the skill of driving any kind of vehicle but legally you cannot put it to use on the road unless you own a licence. In India, following are the types of licences available by the RTO. 1. Learner’s licence Before you get your permanent licence, the Road Transport Authority issues you a learner’s licence. The validity of the same is only for up to 6-months; which implies that you must polish your driving skills within this time frame. Even when a toddler learns to take the first baby steps, we don’t leave them unattended. We try to watch each step and teach them to balance their body. In the same way, a learning licence holder should not be left alone to drive. She/he should always be accompanied by a mature driver. 2. Permanent licence As soon as the waiting period of 6-months is over, the RTO issues a permanent licence to the applicant. The age of the applicant should be 18 years old and she/he should clear the driving exam. The process of applying is made online and hence the complete process is pretty simple and hassle-free. The permanent licence is issued for private vehicles like cars and bikes. Issuing a permanent driver’s licence means that the authority RTO is assured about the driving skills of the applicant. Just like when we find that the baby can walk on his own, only then we leave him to explore the world. Until then we tend to take extra care to prevent any kind of damage. 3. Commercial Driving licence This type of licence authorizes the driver to drive heavy vehicles. Such kind of vehicle is used to transport passengers or goods. The minimum eligibility criteria to apply for a commercial driver's licence is a bit different. Here, the candidate should have necessarily cleared the examination of 8th standard. The onus of the commercial vehicle driver is higher as they are accountable for not only their safety but also of others. 4. International Driving Permit When an applicant looks for an international driving licence it implies that the person is eligible to rent and drive any vehicle in a foreign land. However, it can only be issued if you already have a permanent driving licence. Unlike your driver's licence, the IDP has a validity for 1 year only. And on the expiry, one would need to apply again. Types of Driving Licence in India Get a Mandatory Motor Insurance for your Vehicle and avoid Heavy Penalties. All about Driving Licence in India Our life is governed with the natural phenomenon of breathing in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. This concept of life applies to all living beings on this planet. Here we understand that oxygen is essential to stay alive and that humans do not really have a choice. Just as we talk about life, a driving licence in India is an essential document for car/bike owners and drivers. Without this official document, one can be liable to hefty fines and other consequences. After all, a Driving licence is a legal document that permits one to drive a specified vehicle. Driving any vehicle without a licence can land you in the zone of troubles, including monetary compensations and disqualifications. Why is the Driving Licence important? Driving licence in India is a permit to drive a specified category of the vehicle on the road, i.e a two-wheeler, four-wheeler or a commercial vehicle as well, within territorial boundaries. Your Driving licence is an official document issued by the Government of India to drive your car, truck, bus, bike, et all. It authorizes or clearly dictates that the owner knows how to drive the vehicle and has undergone tests that abide by the traffic rules and regulations. Driving brings comfort and convenience in our life but it should not cause any damage to any third party. Keeping this in mind, mature adults above 18 years of age are entitled to get a driving licence. Anyone below this age is not permitted to drive. In case of a violation, the parents of the candidate can be legally held liable. Different Types of Driving licence in India You can master the skill of driving any kind of vehicle but legally you cannot put it to use on the road unless you own a licence. Driving Licence Categories and Class of Vehicles in India Vehicles like jeep and motor cars fall under the Light Motor Vehicle Category but these are of non-transport class. Vehicles like trailers, larger trucks, and other similar vehicles used for transport of goods fall under the category of HGMV. Vehicles that runs for commercial purpose and has an All India Permit to carry passengers falls under the HPMV category. Sorry to say but no you have to keep practising until you're ready to perform in front of someone without being panic@@akashveersingh528 And also if you failed in test it takes lot of process as well as wastage of money and time for getting driving licence. In some states it is easy to pass a test whereas in some it is not cities like Chandigarh & states like Himachal Pradesh it is ready hard to pass the test without proper driving skills. Dear always keep in mind Driving is a skill also emotion between human & vehicle. No matter which vehicle you drive. Keep patience & Keep Practising to furnish your driving skill. When you are ready your senses will declare you. Also you will be more confident about your skills then you can give test & take your license. Also you can take help from your family members, friends & if not then take driving lessons from driving school for getting driving licence soon. Also there are lot of apps and video related to your queries any. #Good_Luck

Thank you so much for this video. I have been driving stick for about an entire year now. And while I was usually smooth, at times I would kangaroo. Believe it or not I was kind of just feeling when I should release the clutch and give it gas without actually knowing what I was feeling for. Like a gut instinct. But hearing I need to watch for the vibrations and when they are done you can release has helped me shift so much better. All of my shifts immediately became smooth. I was self taught on your videos but I guess I rushed it.

I also am the owner of a 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder which was only sold as a five speed manual in the United States and 6 speed in Europe. So looks like knowing how to drive stick from necessity for my previous vehicle has paid off for this vehicle. Now I can drive it better than ever. Thank you!

I know it's an old video but I'd like to thank you for making this. Previously to purchasing my new 6MT VW Jetta, I had only driven manual transmissions in trucks with extremely torquey diesels, while wearing boots. Whatever clutch-bite there was, I could barely ever feel it, and it didn't really matter if I mucked it up anyway because the engines were so hard to stall. These were mostly military Steyr trucks from the late 1980's, as well as an old F-250 pickup with the 6.9L diesel. Particularly amusing about these trucks was on the Steyr, you could literally park it in third gear and it would take a minute or so before starting to get upset at you - the transmission was called a ZF-8. The F-250's ZF-5 transmission could be shifted from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd without ever touching the accelerator because of how much torque it had. I could drive these trucks just fine, so I figured I knew how to drive a manual well enough to seek out the petrol Jetta... But, I found myself really struggling with interpreting clutch feel and how to come off of the clutch with finesse. Perhaps it's the gas engine and lack of torque, but I was stalling all the time and really frustrating myself. I knew how the clutch worked, and I never ground a single gear, but I had trouble getting going smoothly. Your videos on the subject helped me greatly. Cheers from Canada!

Thanks Richard. This is EXACTLY the thing I've been struggling with throughout my lessons. Before it was announced that we're not allowed to practice with family members during this lockdown my dad took me out a couple times and I finally managed to get to grips with how to release the clutch when moving off. But at one point we reached a junction that happened to be at the top of a hill and I thought I knew what to do but ended up stalling about 10 times and my dad and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. But hoping my driving instructor will teach me how to do that whenever lessons can start again. Can you give me any tips?

Very well explained... Only thing I noticed is you lifting the heel of your foot from the car floor when you were lifting to bite point. I was taught never to lift the heel of your foot from the car floor till you are off the clutch. Gives you better control, especially if you are driving an old car with a heavy clutch
