$150 and they only last two months? No thanks! This was my problem with the Evah Golds-incredibly short life span. This needs to be talked more about in string reviews. If a string is fantastic for only a month, to me it doesn’t matter how good it sounds, especially when there are other good strings that last 4 times that long. Vision Solos are completely stable and healthy for over 6 months with hours a day playing. I don’t know how an average musician’s salary can tolerate this kind of expense

I see your point. I would say that I’m not surprised by the price of these strings given that worldwide inflation of metals and materials has forced string businesses to increase prices on all strings across the board for these companies to continue operation. Also, as I said in the video, these strings are not for everyone and they’re catered towards a specific violin player.

I’m about to hit the third month with the Dynamo’s. About a week ago I noticed the brilliance was fading, but the color palette and response were still there. If anything, there is a shift in characteristic from brilliant to warm as it ages, and I am still able to project. This all with about 4-5 hours of daily playing on average. I’ll keep these on for another month, maybe even through the summer or until I can’t stand it anymore just to experiment haha.

i play about 4 hrs a day + 3 hrs in orchestra (which is very taxing on the strings) and my hands are pretty destructive, just ordered these but i guess they will have a very short life for me, still excited to try them on my violin

It could be interesting to see how they last, do you use a lot of weight on the bow? If so, my guess would be that they may not last as long

Can't wait to try them so I can realize yet again that classic Dominants are best on my antique violin.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I would say dynamos are catered towards modern violin. This suit the bill for me since my violin is a 2015.

All of this sounds really good except for the life expectancy part. I shudder at spending that much every couple months haha. But then again I play my strings until they unravel so I should probably do it more often. Though this has me thinking, in your opinion what are some of the longer lasting strings you would recommend for most people or even just students?

I can only talk for the viola version, big, loud and dark sound in the beginning, but absolutely full after 2,3 weeks. Never have experienced this before my Standard strings like evah pirazzi &Gold Obligato Passione or Perpetual. Also Eudoxa or Oliv hold their sing-ringing quaility for months

Interesting observations Eric! I've had Dynamos on my violin for exactly 3 weeks now. I was very skeptical when I first ordered them because after many years of trials I've found Larsen Tzigane to be my favorite strings on my violin. I used to exclusively buy Thomastik strings, I did a lot of experimentation after the PI's came out. Dynamo for me were the first set of strings that I put on my violin and immediately just blew me away from the first note. Like you said, I can speak from my own experience also, around day 5 I was like "there's no way this is my same violin". It was the most beautiful sound my violin has ever made. I wonder how my experiences through another 4-6 weeks will turn out and if it will be similar to yours. I'm also an avid performer and teacher playing about 3-5 hours per day excluding other gigs/teaching. So I guess time will tell!

The biggest issue with strings is the lifespan... So much money for 2-3 weeks... How would u compare to Peter infeld, Larsen il cannone, virtuoso ? I need to buy new ones but still hesitate

I’ve never tried Thomastik heavy. My violin generally doesn’t like heave gauge strings.

I broke down and ordered them despite being worried about lifetime. I had $100 gift certificate anyway. 😉 So far, I really like them. I just don’t know that I want to spend $150 every two months. I was really hoping they would last longer. I do not know how long they will last for me though, so I guess we will see. I doubt I play nearly as much as you do, so maybe mine will last longer.

On average a set of strings last between 200 and 250 playing hours. It definitely depends on how much you practice, perform, and teach. I’m teaching 4-5 hours a day plus performances and personal practice so it varies.

You definitely play more than me as I do a lot of administrative stuff and not as much playing per se, so maybe mine will last as long as I need them to. I just went and played in an empty church today, and I was definitely very impressed with what I was hearing. I should have recorded it. 😂
