How long can EcoFlow Delta 2 run an AC mini split ? | Solar powered AC runtime | Mr cool on Solar

On this episode, we take a look at a solar generator from Ecoflow powering a AC mini split unit. The mini split unit is a third generation, DIY MrCool 12 K heat pump. We use an EcoFlow Delta 2 and an extra battery to power the mini split unit. On a normal day with sunny light we are able to run the AC unit all day from the solar generator. When in cooling mode, it will consume somewhere between 500 to 700 W, but after reaches the set temperature, it will usually hover between 75 to 150 watts. If you have the maximum amount of solar connected, you should be able to get through the whole day assuming you started with a full charge
These tests and real world usage were done in summer in the southeast in August and September.
Obviously your specific scenario and results may vary due to the different variables. This is just our experience.

Man! so happy you made this video! I am considering running same mini split for my single car garage, set up panels and run this separately from the house. Right on.

If you had a Delta 2 Max you would need to upgrade the panels going in. Or to save $ you could go with your current panels in series in to one in put and then a couple of larger panels in to the other. We don't have such Air Condition needs in the UK but it is always interesting to see how other people use their power stations and solar.

Do I have to set it up like this with that generator switch. Or can I just connect the 10 gauge cable to the sub panel?

I’m surprised the delta 2 can handle the start up of a mini split. I plan on using a Delta Pro or Ultra for a 9k mini split. Ultra mainly for the silent running

Hey wondering why you don't plug the Mr Cool directly into the EcoFlow? Do you know if you did plug into the ecoflow if the app would allow the battery to run down while only drawing from solar until a minimum battery set point?

True, technically it’s the only thing connected. So I do use the energy management feature to do what you mentioned. The reason it’s not direct wired to EcoFlow is because when it was first installed it was installed to the main panel. Only after purchasing the EcoFlow did I have the thought to power the ac from it

I feed my delta 2 with 2 x 285 watt amerisolar polycristaline panels. IT delivers 420 to 480 wats easily. One advise, buy rather delta 2 Max, because of Higher invertor Power so you Can use IT with laundry machines.

Voc 38.7v. Vmp 31.7v. I measured in real conditions around 34.3 V and amps are 8A each. So in paraler conection around 16 amps. Delta 2 will limit current to 15 amps. So 15x 34.3=514.5 wats. Ekoflow delta 2 Has limit 500 wats fór solar imput.

Macbook Pros are pretty efficient, especially if they're Apple Silicon. I have to get on my wife to turn off our LED lights because they pull more power than my Macbook Pro and I go through a lot of effort to run it off of solar.

Did you ever consider using the built in features of the Delta 2 to automize the power? You can set it up to when the batteries get to 20% then use wall power to charge it up to Ex:50%, this will continue until the solar charges the batteries back to over 50%. You will never need to manually switch the split ac from sources. You can also attach the Delta to your battery bank via solar to keep the system fully charged.

A heat pump is 4 times as efficient as a heater. No building runs AC off batteries. Hospitals use diesel generators. It’s really strange people think batteries can run heavy loads indefinitely when commercial buildings can’t. The battery will hold essential loads and so I suggest a fan for grid outages

If you aren't mobile, why are you even using these in this situation. It's such a weird fragment of users who don't provide much useable data. You won't even survive the first wave of this being necessary. I bought a Delta 2, 2x 220w bifacial portable panels, a Glacier w/battery and a Wave2 w/battery, this black Friday. ~$3700 vs ~$5900. My Wave2 was free in every calculation. The conditions I can live in without sacrifice are mind boggling. Versus a room full of Apple laptops and users that still choose Apple. Wild. You provide hope, in a bad way.

wholly cow about $6000 investment to run an ac in a little room for 1/2 day. Or a 650 watt frig for 2 to 4 hours. I can get a dual fuel 500 inverter and run 4 or 5 of my frigerator/freezers and get another one for a couple ac units at 1000 watts per and buy 5000 worth of propane. I get it the sun makes your energy but have to say the math doesn't make any sense. Every review of these solar generators are done by folks who get the products for free. I love the way the industry is going and at some point they will be there but at this time they are silly. You can drop like 50K on the Ultra's and still you don't have near the power for a hot Texas day with a 5 ton and 3 1/2 ton. Fossil Fuels make the world go around.
