Hey man, I just wanted to tell you that it does get better. I am on month 9, and still having palpitations and anxiety spikes here and there… but nowhere near as bad as I was even month 4, 5, 6… it will and does get better. There is no medicine or route you can use other than time. I know it sucks to hear this, but your central nervous system is repairing itself.

This is just my experience, but I’d like to share it with you all. I understand this experience will be different for everyone. I was on Xanax for three years, 1.5mg-1.0mg/day. Three months ago went down to 0.5mg, and about two weeks ago, I went down to 0.25mg. On the 23rd of June, I quit Xanax, and the only withdrawal symptoms I had were “benzo belly” and insomnia. It’s day five off Xanax and “Benzo belly,” and insomnia dramatically subsided. I have no more stomach pain, and I can sleep easily at night. My anxiety level is around 1/10 to 2/10. I don’t remember how long it’s been since I’ve felt such little anxiety like this. While tapering Xanax down to 0.5mg, my rebound anxiety was at least 9/10! It was causing me severe paranoia too. I’ve been able to do errands with almost no anxiety, and it feels incredible. I know how horrific this drug can be. I wish everyone healing and health. You will overcome this.

Sounds like you didn't have it to rough and were lucky. I've been stuck on this med for 6+ years at significantly higher doses and tried several times at tapering and I'm almost 50 and have never been through such a tough process in all my life. It's hard to describe the feelings others than just feeling "off". The insomnia was terrible and ranked right up there but the buzzing in my ears and blurry vision were easily just as bad. Been told by my Dr. That I may never see a day of being totally free of benzos and if did it would be a very long and gradual process.

No. By 84, you'll look back on this as an old infection, not a phase. You'll see how much better life gets. Additionally, drugs, their effects and the withdrawal and cravings no matter how severe, can't stop anyone from turning their life around. And after they quit, it will get easier as week, months and years past. You'll remember your addiction until the day you die. But you will be much happier with your quality of life if you stick with it. People who use xanax life myself have another problem. We carry a huge stigma and that doesn't help. Nor does the fact that we are the types that NEED this medication to function.

Dr B - it doesn't matter how slowly you come off Benzos. If you "feel normal again" you probably shouldn't have been on them to begin with. WD from Benzos brings on the same symptoms they were designed to fight. So what's "normal" mean to a person that lives with GAD and the 24/7 feeling of Panic, fright and the uncontrollable acceleration of the Fight or Flight mechanism? I've been on Klonopin for 25 years and have been taken off them twice. After the second time, with no end in sight of what people normally perceive as withdrawal symptoms, I finally realized 3 or 4 months later that I WAS off Benzos and THE HORROR was that this was my normal self without them. Then came the question of "Quality of Life". Was I content with living as a borderline Agoraphobic, with no social life and in a constant state of feeling Attacked by my own self or slipping comfortably away from it all into the ether? I've been there and decided I preferred the latter option. I owe my life to the continued influence of Benzos.

Benzos cause baseline anxiety levels to greatly increase along with many other withdrawal symptoms. If you're a part of the subset of people who undergo protracted withdrawals it's possible you'll experience withdrawals for two years after cessation when going off cold turkey. 3 or 4 months means you got to about 15 percent of the way back to normal and gave up.

@@Gman513 so I'm a quitter huh? I never wanted to come off of them to begin with. I've been told by 3 or 4 psychiatrists over the past couple of decades that I'll probably be on them for life. Why live a tortured life, with an uncorrected neurochemical imbalance, when with the addition of one pill, twice a day, I can live a balanced one. Tell a diabetic that they "just gave up" when a Dr refused to prescribe them insulin. I'm seeking "recovery" not FROM Benzos but from my anxiety. The "Bio, Psycho, Social" boxes for my diagnosis have all been checked off long ago... I'm 61 year's old and there's zero chance I'm experimenting with a 7-10 year torturous potential for recovery. Everyone's neurochemistry is different.

@@TheFreezeCriminalFetusvideos look, it's your choice to stay on benzodiazepines. If you want to quit that's fine too. I was providing information to you from what the literature has indicated. You are likely experiencing a more severe symptom of anxiety than you were before you ever touched benzos when you had quit. It takes closer to 24 months to reach the lower levels of where your anxiety should be. Not doubting you have anxiety, but you're experiencing a heightened level of it since you're likely going through Protracted benzo withdrawals. Anecdotally, the worst portion of the withdrawal anxiety comes between months 6 and 10 of cold turkey fyi. You were getting closer to the hardest part of it all. Dr. B's video says that people trying to quit should not go cold turkey and try the long term tapering method. That'll help keep the increase in anxiety levels they're likely to experience over the many years of tapering to a minimum. If that interests you, then discuss it with your prescriber.

Months, with residual effects lasting a year or more.. basic anxiety and sleep problems, even longer. In my opinion Benzos are harder to get off than opiates. Don't start taking them if possible..they effect mental health very badly in the long run too. I was prescribed valium at 14. I believe they damaged my brain.. The mood centre of My brain, specifically. In the U.K Benzos are only usually offered as a 6 week detox.. This detox is Far too fast and there is No leeway with Your prescriber's

I quit Klonopin cold turkey due to a severe paradoxical reaction. Tapering really wasn't an option for me and my doctor didn't believe there were any withdrawal symptoms from this drug. Worst experience of my life. Took over a year to feel somewhat normal and I honestly don't think I could do it a second time. This was after only 2.5 months of 2mgs per day.

I have been taking alprazolam 3 mg a day for 15 years. I have tried a few times to go days without them and both time had seizures. My anxiety is so bad it keeps me stuck at home. Alprazolam was the only thing to help me get motivation and relaxed enough to go to the store to get grocery. It takes a long time to taper from benzos. The best choice is diazepam because it has the longest half life and is a long acting benzo. It also depends if your taking quick or long acting benzos xanax- quick acting, Klonopin-long acting. Dr. B please respond, I have asked a few questions multiple times concerning why naloxone is in Suboxone when it is only used for preventing people from i.v use and if your not an i.v user then buprenorphine hcl should be prescribed because the naloxone is only used as a blocker and long term use has been proven to cause renal failure , hepatic symptoms ect... Also buprenorphine hcl is safe as it has a ceiling effect and blocking effect. Buprenorphine hcl is safe for non i.v using patients. Naloxone long term for someone who isn't trying to use it I.v is dangerous as it is not needed.

In the U.K only Subutex is prescribed, not the sub/Naltraxone mix. But, You're only prescribed Subutex if You're no longer in "active addiction". You'll be started on methadone, then have to give clean samples for months and cut down to 30mls (1mg/1ml solution) then swop over to Subutex..due to the cost. Methadone is so cheap, they don't want to "waste" money by prescribing Subutex to addict's ..🤔 (yeah, I know..crazy, right??)

Oh I had aneurysm brain surgery in 1995. I was put on Xanax...After a year or so ( had no clue what was these meds) Yes it was logical because I had PTSD, depression n panic attacks after surgery) but I was hospitalized at my first attempt. So in the hospital I was put even higher dose. Now I know how addictive those meds plus how addicted person I am. Long story short. All my 4 serious, psichiatrist/ addictilogist treatment I was on. Long inpatient treatment I mean like 4-6 months. Last time I was in a psichosis forgot my name, dob everything. It in the beginning of 2016. My new GP, was an idiot he stopped prescring benzo but I was put on antipsychotics and anticonvulsants and something else. I felt unwell but told me to keep going on. I was an addict and he didn't want to feed my addiction and I was only historical. A week later or so bang. Blacked out. So hospital again. My doc thought I took too much. Me too because I can't remember 😭 anything. So finally there was no benzos at all. I got IV liquids and. anticonvulsants. So finally I was put to Diazepam n we slowly tapered to 12 mg pay was admitted from hospital in September and in November I moved another country. Left my well paid but hated job now. I am a part timer but still on 10 mg of Diasepam, 300 mg pregabalin and my Trintellix plus 2 Bp pills. But again I have to be careful because my 140 pills for 28 days is not enough...means the for last 5 days I have only 2mg pd left. So it is a red flag but my GP thank God will not prescre me over 10mg so as I'm older, less healthy and strong it is a non stop nitemare. I don't drink at all for 5 years, no cigarettes and no coffein at all. I am still blessed I am alive, graduated long ago but still keep on learning but my brain is less sharper, bipolarity is challenging. I think aneurysm and medications made the toll on me but I will never ever be benzo free..that is a very effective med but choose wisely it can be a life long issue

I was only taking about 20mg of Clobazam (for epilepsy) for less than 2 years, and tapered off it for over three months (to reduce a risk of seizures) and am still suffering. It’s a lot better than it was (for about two months I probably should have admitted myself to hospital) but I have still have regular bouts of severe anxiety and anxiety attacks. Worst of all though is the IBS like symptoms, I have chronic diarrhoea and have to go to the toilet urgently at least 10 times a day. That’s actually had a huge impact on my life because it effects everything I do. I can’t work in the morning. If I drive somewhere in the morning I have to plan to leave earlier and make sure there are toilets on the way. I’ve kind of tried FODMAP diet, but thinking about food or cooking gives me anxiety, I also suspect it doesn’t really help much (although some foods do definitely make it worse). Worst bit is doctors just kind of write it off as being caused solely by anxiety or getting older. Which is annoying

Woah the level of ignorance the medical community has towards benzos injury is on full display in this video. He speaks with such confidence, this has to be the Dunning-Kruger effect at work.

Some people can’t go off the medication because the underlying condition is worse then the withdrawal so if you feel bad after it you stop taking the medication your sickness is worse then the withdrawal.

Whatever way you come off the withdrawals are awful. I was on 15 mgs now down to 2 mgs and I’m not sleeping, having panic attacks and struggling to go out. I was on 6 mgs for years. Hoping that I cope. My WD symptoms despite the panic attacks (infrequent) so far haven’t been that bad but I’m scared about being off them altogether as I’ve been battling agoraphobia and going out much more. I don’t want to be trapped inside by withdrawals

Please, I have complex GAD and was prescribed 4 mg lorazepam and 20 mg temazepam for one year. I am weaning of this medication with only two times a day 3 mg (= 0,5 lorazepam). Some days are bad (extreme anxiety, palpitations, headaches, migraine). Other days are going much better. My sleep is still bad. But, the main difference in felling better is exercising everyday, and taking supplements repairing gut and gaba receptors (magnesium, lithium orotate, magnolia, vitamine B complex).
