It's missing the point that Caicedo injured Gravenberch. It's the fact that he committed 7 fouls and did not receive a booking which included that tackle and several before it and several after it. The early booking likely prevents him being careless like that in the first place. Chilwell took out a player too and didnt get booked until he started on someone.

You look at 100m midfielders such as Rice and Bellingham. And then you look at 50m midfielders like JWP and Bissouma And take a look at 20m midfielders like Jorginho and Endo All of them are better than Caicedo and Enzo... 200m down the drain.😅

Endo was my personal motm. Rarely did someone get past him and if they did he managed to recover well

Klopp said Endos legs were seizing up at the end of the game, he was struggling to climb the stadium stairs. The guy gave absolutely everything. He’s playing at Ngolo Kante levels right now

Alisson couldn't of done any better then him today. Him, konate, VVD, Endo, Mac allister, Elliot basically everyone tbh were just sensational. Had like 7 starters out and a bench of 2 defenders and basically academy kids. Poch really brought that spursy factor too Chelsea and we all love it. Trust in the kids to step up too not even risk Salah and Nunez was honestly genius. Gonna be devastated come the end of the season and klopp leaves.

Curtis Jones got sent off for a lesser, more accidental tackle than what Caicedo did that didn't even result in a foul. Consistency. Also, you won't see a goal being ruled out for the reason VVD's goal was ruled out again this season. Ruling out a goal for a possible hypothetical situation that might have happened is ridiculous.

Exactly it's the inconsistency that pisses us off more than anything. Jota got wrestled in the box against Brentford not so much as a check, despite City being awarded a far weaker foul for a player getting an arm round them in the box. Jota in the same game was given a flying knee and had his own knee landed on. If Konate did that to someone in a game its straight red every time. Not to mention Luton towns defenders consistently arm dragging and head locking being ignored. Yet again if LFC's backline used this as our go to tactic we'd have none left. And those are just a handful of examples from the last few weeks, too much this season has boiled down to whatever PGMOL gives us on the day.

Look, Liverpool deserved the win. I’m not arguing with that. But the disallowed goal was the correct call. Endo was stood offside, and then directly influenced the goal. If he is stood onside before he makes that block, then it’s a goal. But we have seen goals disallowed for years now, and will continue to do so, for players stood offside and influencing play.

​​​@@alexcooper3651except that's assuming that Colwill would have tracked Van Dijk and contested the ball when by that point Virgil had already made his run and the matchup was between VVD and Chilwell. Colwill had already lost him, then was blocked, and neither him or Endo had any interaction with the goal. And if you watch it Colwill doesn't even attempt to get past Endo, he loses Virgil and then just stops moving.

No. Would it have been clear and obvious error to let slide? Not really. Will there be any real consistency between that and the myriad of goals this season and next that are affected by offside players? No. Was it harsh to rule it out in a cup final? very.

@@alexcooper3651 I think you need to watch literally any other match in the history of football to see whether standing in front of a player not near the ball or attacker at a free kick is a foul or offside or interference.

Perception is mad, Elliott isn't considered in the 'kid' bracket, even the disappointment of Gravenberch going off having to bring kids on, is 21 himself.

Tbf Chelsea do have a lot of young players as well which is why I think some of the stick is a bit OTT. Big money youngsters for the most part though with more experience so do get they are expected to beat academy lads.

Dude 20 is definitely still a kid even in football terms. He's just exceptional is all. And RG is still young, not even close to what hes capable of, particularly regarding his last season in the wilderness under the master man manager that is Tommy Tuchel.

Endo cleared so much from out the box, including cutting out the second attempt after Kelleher's excellent initial save. This wasn't even noted by the match commentary.

My issue with Caicedo wasn't the Gravenberch tackle but nearly every time a Liverpool player went past him he either kicked them or bundled them over. Sometimes, that player even had the ball.

Chilwell was lucky not to be sent off, the one on Bradley was a yellow and then the yellow he got for trying to scrap with a 20 year old. He was also at Elliott couple of times and you Clark 19 year old he was trying to pick on him too, embarrassing. He was on about he hoped Salah will be fit for this game too, he was getting absolutely riled by a bunch of kids 😂😂

Caicedo also swipes at Mac Allister ankle (that is AWAY from the ball), steps directly on Endo's ankle away from the ball (the reason he was in a boot). Look at those then look again at the gravy one and tell me he is not targeting ankles. These are not coincidences, he is not surprised when he ends up on someone's ankle and rolls it. Once could be written off as unintentional, but he has lunged at the ankle of 3 different midfielders, that we KNOW OF.

Liverpool fans will not forget endo's performance

Love seeing stories like Endo. An older player being picked up by a huge team and giving him his overdue time to shine.

YES James. Endo has needed praise for a long time this season, such an understated player who just gets it done. Love his attitude. A lot of our fans were underwhelmed when we signed him. After his first start at anfield (in the league cup, actually) he tweeted "delighted to make my first start at anfield. I will keep trying" god bless him.

Caicedo should have been sent off. You said it too, he was going in for the tackle while simultaneously looking where he would go next to follow the ball. That’s a reckless tackle that seriously injured another player. Should have been a red

I can't understand those people. Elliot is a livewire. He's so good in the Liverpool system. He's not a goal scorer, that's not his role. He enables, and he does it so well. He works well with Trent, Bradley, Gomez, Salah, MacAllister, whoever is around him. He moves the ball forward, creates opportunities, and the fact that he can play both in midfield and as a stand-in for Salah is so valuable. He's not underrated, but anyone who can't see his impact needs to reevaluate themselves.

Endos heatmap is literally insane. Like how can a sane man push himself to such lengths. Incredible player and a joy to be able to watch every week. So, so refined as an all around footballer. I see a lot of people sleeping on his ability to make a progressive pass on the turn which shouldn't go overlooked.

for the caicedo challenge, it doesn't matter if its an accident or not... not saying it should be a red, but we've seen those constantly given as reds... it was a bad challenge, and didn't get close to the ball. wasn't even a yellow or foul which I'd mental

Not sure of the exact numbers, but half the team in extra time don't even have a combined total of appearances in double figures for the club. One Chelsea KZreadr pointed out that 5 of those guys were playing against Stoke last week in the PL2 game Also, a club in crisis do not put 4 goals past Man city IMO.

Mac Allister, Jones and Jota have gotten red cards for accidents too. A lot of players have. Hands inside the box can be accidental. Doesn't make it less of a red, given that it is dangerous play... It's a leg breaking tackle.

Conor Bradley has been brilliant the last few games. Going to be hard to take him out of the team when everyone’s fit. No fear, very mature player, makes the right decision every time.

I think people are upset with the foul because it is so similar to Jones when he was sent off. No malice but they put it up on the screen to watch in slow motion starting with the particular frame in which it looked the worst. Why didn’t that happen here? Again no consistency is ruining football.

And to think Endo was 3rd or 4th choice cdm to sign and seemed like a random and panic buy to many people. If it wasn't for VVD almost getting to goals, Endo would be the clear man of the match today

The graphic at 0:43 is a really nice touch. It’s simple but I’m a big fan of it and showing what positions were key.

Felt like Endo was our only midfielder at many times, how Gallagher didnt score is beyond me. Also Kelleher was outrageous, way better today than his recent few games before today

What a f**king great match. I can't remember a cup-final ebbing & flowing so much before. It was 0-0 for 90% of the game but yet absolutely riveting. After the effort put in by both teams I wouldn't have minded Chelsea winning the cup. It wasn't about a poxy cup. It was two heavyweights going toe-to-toe. It was a PROPER MATCH. In every sense.

On Endo: I was expecting him to just be a solid, hardworking player, nothing special, and I was happy with that considering how little we paid for him, but he is slowly becoming so much more than that now to the point where I think he really needs to talked about more by pundits. You look at this final where his opposite number is the £110M DM who's rejection of Liverpool led to us buying Endo in the first place, and you'd have to say that of the two Endo had by far and away the more impressive performance. It's reached the point where a 31 year old that we "panic bought" for £16M from a low level Bundesliga team has become one of our most important players and among the first names on the teamsheet each week. And that's all credit to him; he's worked his socks off to move perception from him being a stop-gap panic signing to him being one of the best DMs in the league, and it's only taken him 18 appearances to do that!!!

Be honest James, Caicedo was putting himself about like a thug long before he injured Gravenberch.

Accidents don’t matter. Jones against Spurs was sent off for rolling over a ball. It’s a straight red or Jones shouldn’t have been booked either.

Re the Caicedo/ Gravenberch challenge, agree it was mostly an accident and no intent. However at the beginning of the season, VAR would have shown the ref a still shot of Caicedo's foot stamping on Gravenberch's ankle after the ball had gone and called it dangerous play and a red card. To amend the criteria for assessing such incidents during the season isn't acceptable, the full season must be judged with the same standards.

Even if Caicedo didn't mean it and he probably didn't, Liverpool has had players sent off this season for similar, which is the issue for me.

Macallister my MOTM. Or maybe VVD 😅. But I love Endo performance. He was so smart and cool throughout.

eh the caicedo thing isn’t as big of a deal but the problem id take with it is not that it’s an accident i totally believe it is, but that hasn’t stopped reds before, remember jones vs spurs, he had his foot on top of the ball and it slipped off onto the ankles of sarr? i can’t fully remember who it was but either way obviously that wasn’t intentional so if that’s how it goes then neither or both should be reds but yeah enough people have complained about consistency so i don’t even need to mention it

9:15 Incredible that it could have been Arsenal's day considering they weren't playing.

Last week Newcastle scored a set piece against Forest where the commentators and pundits spent a lot of time praising the Newcastle players for how they blocked off the Forest defenders. One week later blocking isn’t allowed 🤷‍♂️

What difference does it make if there was no malice in the challenge or he didn't mean it? It was a dangerous challenge. In a previous game this season Curtis Jones got a straight red card because he hit the other guys ankle, even though he hit the ball first and his foot slid over. Jones didn't mean to do a bad tackle, he wasn't trying to injure the other guy, but he still got a straight red. I'm not saying the incident in this game was worthy of a red, but I don't think there was even a foul called? And to me it makes NO difference what his intentions were, how can you even determine that?

Incredible defensive performance today and especially VVD an absolute leader of men!

Liverpool have several national team captains. Endo, vvd, roberston, szobo, salah. The mentality of these guys is unmatched and the youngsters learn from the best. That’s what wins you finals.

Actually if you watch the Caicedo one on Gravernberch, Caicedos left foot goes to an unnatural position to make the contact. When you turn away you still know where the player is, and it is easy to sick the leg out a little bit more to make contact, and that’s what he did. So for me the contact was intentional, maybe he didn’t intend to injure Gravenberch, but he did intend the contact. Then we move onto the next bit. You are saying it’s not a foul because he didn’t intentionally injury Gravenberch. We see week in and week out contact there is given as a foul, intent doesn’t really come into it. The ref did not see a foul full stop. Finally we saw Caicedo give foul after foul and most of them were heavy contact… so I would argue it’s definitely intent.

Was actually a great game to watch for a 1-0. Also some insight from VVD in his interview after the match, the interviewer asked about this maybe being only the first cup this season and VVD replied “well it’s impossible, no one has ever done it before” which I believe he let it slip that Liverpool, on the down low, are going for the quadruple. Obviously everyone will try to do that, but it seems from this that they believe they can do it, otherwise he wouldn’t have said “no one’s done it before”, because obviously people have won 2 or 3 cups in a season so it’s not an impossible thing to do that no one has ever done.

To disallow that goal should open a can of worms, but it won’t. We’ve had city players offside with the ball going between their legs and the goal given. Endo held his position. Furthermore for VAR to get involved it should have been a clear and obvious error. The fact is it wasn’t..

I thought there were a lot of Chelsea transitions that simply felt like we had the same XI (more or less) that played on Wednesday vs a Chelsea team who had a week to prepare for this. Klopp's trust & bravery to bring Bobby Clark & James McConnell into that midfield where we were being overrun was the game-changing moment. The two of them getting into that midfield and making a few tackles, McConnell the yellow sticks to mind, got the crowd up and really pushed us back into that game in ET.

Curtis jones got a red for that,and he slipped and rolled on the ball against Tottenham, to be honest this game was ridged from the start 😑 Chelsea bought the whole referees ,I don't even what to talk about the disallowed goal, good video, keep up the good work 👍

Gary Neville had been working on that one for a while.. Also VVD's first goal should _never_ have been disallowed, if we didn't know better and know for a fact they are absolutely infallible and would never do such a thing we might suspect they were trying to engage in a lil' bit-o-matchfixing.

It was a pretty low quality game from all fronts. Liverpool obviously B team...but felt like a Championship game or U21 game

The likes of that caceido challenge should be retrospectively punished,recklessly out of control .

I'm pretty sure I just watched a match of Liverpool building attacks and Chelsea trying to scrape a breakaway goal. They played counterattack.. I don't understand how anyone watched that game and thought that Chelsea deserved anything. Scrappy halfchancers. Statistically, Konate doesn't add up, you just looked at his statistics and he is lower than alot of other defenders in the game, he's a liability. Mac Allister deserves some serious respect, everyone seems to have overlooked him this game, you say Endo was isolated, it just patently wasn't true (he was great though). I thought Endo and Mac Allister bullied a £250 million midfield. Diaz and Gakpo need to stop looking for a pass every time they get into the box. People will rag on Gallagher for that opportunity, but Kelleher covered it so well he didn't have time to think. Liverpool won because they were the better team, played better football, and Chelsea is badly managed.

Big moments for me: 1. Gravenberch injury - not a red, a yellow even if unintentional because its late, clumsy and results in an injury. Biggest issue I had was Chelsea had gone in strong, maybe too strong a couple times already and Kavanaugh (I think out of fear of not wanting to be a talking point of the game) doesn't pull it up; it results in a Chelsea player going in clumsy and causing an injury. 2. 'Offside goal' - an absolute joke. I think they have shit out (maybe because Poch's pre match comments about 2 non-penalties at Anfield, which would have only made it 4-3 FWIW). Since we make assumptions about where Colwill gets if he isn't blocked, where does Endo go if he isn't freeing up a lane for Virgil? Can't have what-ifs like that making decisions, VAR needs to work on concrete evidence. 3. Kelleher triple/double & block save and 1-on-1 save - I used to worry a little when Alisson got injured for a game, but after a run, we are now seeing why our players & staff call him the best number 2 in the world. 4. The subs/kids - Klopp had no other choice and the players who came off all needed to at the time we made the changes, but the young players won that game. Gomez, no other option but he played really well. Conor Bradley looked spent and we needed Elliott to stop doing so much running and just get more of the ball, Bobby Clark came on and facilitated that brilliantly and actually added some steel against Gallagher & Enzo. Robbo could no longer get up & down, Tsimikas sorted the issue and provides the assist. McConnell comes on for Mac Allister, who was on a yellow and looking increasingly tired, adds energy, stays calm on the ball (the dummy to send two Chelsea players was beautiful) and his cynical foul was perfect as they were 4-on-3 on the break. Danns was less tangible, but he was running behind and pushed their defence deeper which just gave our midfield a little more room. Quansah came on and just looked like it was easy, some player that boy. 5. The Klopp effect - tactical managers like Guardiola and Arteta can out-think you and their team can play better that way (our loss at the Emirates is a clear example). Jurgen Klopp has an intangible factor, his players will give 120% for him. He knows people, he is able to harness something inside that the perfect tactic can fall to simply by making you believe. Bobby Clark said his instructions were to 'go and be yourself', who says that to a kid in a cup final? Jurgen does and it just makes you go past your maximum for him. Gonna be impossible to replace that. Special mention to Endo for just being everything we missed last year in our midfield. Energy, determination and grit, let's the other players be more cute. Virgil put in a real Captain's MOTM performance. 2 goals (ish). Wall defensively. Proper leader.

That ruled out goal felt like they were looking for something. I think Klopp mentioned that he has been coaching for 20 years and he learned a new rule with that call. I am nearly 50 and it completely baffled me. Blocking happens all the time at free kicks and corners, and they made A LOT of assumptions to find a reason to rule out the goal. We want to see goals, stop looking for reasons to cancel them.

Completely agree there isn't malice in the caceido tackle. But malice isn't the test. He stamps on a guy because he wasn't paying attention. You can argue you think he was being super careful and couldn't reasonably have avoided injuring gravenberg, but he doesn't have to be trying to hurt anyone to get sent off.

The pitch is not a court. There is no need for intention or malice. Curtis got a red at Tottenham for much less. It is a red and that VAR did not call it is shameful.

While the tactical analysis is great, what is going under-emphasized or rather not emphasized enough is the confidence with which the youngsters played especially McConnell - maybe that was the point of the video i.e., to highlight a different perspective. He singlehandedly took on Caceido and Enzo in midfield while so composed in possession. He also took a tactical foul on Palmer to stop a counter-attack. Danns was a constant threat and how measured his press was (instead of gung-ho) is going un-noticed as well. Overall, the most important thing is the mentality Klopp has instilled in the club from top to bottom. The reward makes it sweeter and more perceivable.

The problem with the tackle on Gravenberch is that its no different than what Curtis Jones was retroactively given a red card for against Spurs while this tackle was even more out of control and it wasn't even checked by VAR for some reason.

Think we all need to just admit it by now that endo and mac allister are by far the best bargains of the summer. Whoever though clocked endo needs a massive rise because that was absolutely ridiculously great scouting, nobody even knew he existed till we signed him and at the age he is too has exceeded expectations to near unfathomable levels.

Wish you spoke more about the subs and the tactics in extra time as that's really where the game was won

I dont think the Caicedo ine on gravenberch was a red, however he should have been sent off as he should have been 3 yellows deep at that point, its inconceivable that he sisnt get a yellow today. However on top of that, intent and malice have absolutely nothing to do with it being a red or not

Chelsea certainly have potential, the fact they up their game against top opponents gives you a glimpse of an idea of what they are capable of. We used to see it in Klopp’s Liverpool, they’d play amazing and beat Man City only to lose 2-0 at home to Burnley the following week

If Caicedo doesn't get a red for the tackle on Gravenberch, neither should Jones in the Spurs game
