The ‘fifa coins’ refers to his old sponsors, a deal could be on the 6 figures a month for just 5 second integrations on every vid! There is a LOT more to explain but that’s the base 🤣

Yeah this is it, but it was the fact they got commission from each sale when there code was used, if anyone plays FUT (you obviously do lol) you know how much is spent on opening packs, the coins were generated from things like hacks, so was completely free, so the commission could be pretty high as was basically free money, meaning they were making a lot of money, I know creators like Calfreezy and Chip said they were making 6 figures a month, honestly Id assume KSI and W2S were making a fair bit more, these were times when you wouldn't get banned also, so everyone was doing it lol
One thing that people don't often talk about is that he literally went on a hibernation of maybe a year / year and a half. It was a time when KZread and social media platforms NEEDED creators to be on 24/7. And then he came back as if he never left. I still don't get how he has such sticky audience - because I have been following him before he hit 50K and been through his FIFA days. And I have never seen another creator like him. JJ is unique.

The editing in this video though. So cool and I really like this approach! Even though you do interviews really well, I have to say I’m a much bigger fan of the analysis type of video since it can really be insightful and applied to a lot more than content creation.

It's hard to cover everything that's happened without making this super long, but I think it's worth mentioning there was a point somewhat early on during those FIFA days before that break he took, where his audience was growing up and he kind of wasn't growing up with us. He was getting a lot of negative feedback about how his behaviour wasn't okay and he didn't care at all. Then it came to a point where he was kicked out from E3 and big business sponsors were dropping him because of it. That's around when he decided to go on that break to try and help discover himself again and I think he came back with the ability to acknowledge mistakes and respond to change much better. My guess is that he started listening to community feedback and then discussed it with people around him to filter that feedback before deciding on whether to take actions or not regarding the feedback and he's gone leaps and bounds ever since.

I thought it was kind of the opposite where he was growing up but the audience kept on asking for the old ksi? Then he went on a break to kind of reinnovate himself? Idk that's how I remember it but you might be right.

@@Zaman675 I think after he returned and fixed up, old KSI was more of a meme. But for the most part the majority of the audience understood the reason for change, although there probably were some people who didn't understand and genuinely wanted "old KSI". Like people wanted him to keep doing content where he messes with the public but he understood he can't continue his career like that after that harrassment ordeal, but there's people who don't care about that and just want their entertainment no matter what and they're the ones calling for old ksi

Yes finally someone acknowledges how multitalanted he is. He is different on the most part, because unlike any other youtubers that does it, he's not about the hype, he doesn't produce content like most hyped youtubers anymore, he did it but it kinda feels forced back then ,, thats why he backed off of that format and become more genuine. As a lifelong ksi fan this video was awesome to see. Jj is one of the most genuine people on this platform. He’s so transparent with his fans and is just honest and real about everything he says. Not only that through all the mistakes and missteps every time jj has come back more humbled and mature. And I think that’s what keeps me so in tuned with the guy
Paused the video halfway to say this - This is some amazing editing. I don't think people will realize this but then again nobody notices a great cut they only notice the bad ones so this is just a praise to your guys' editor and you guys of course for putting out some of the greatest storytelling this platform has seen.

Very true I’ve watched KSI since 2011 I’d say they kinda missed the scary game era the cringe wasn’t all cringe specific he did do lots of pranks too. Regardless they made it long enough for casuals to get an idea would like a video going into his full backstory but might not really as important to most as something like this for newer creators.
@tejassetlur806
Жыл бұрын
@@BrianZuma I 100% agree with you and I also think the whole “cringe” era wasn’t really cringe at the time. You didn’t really have people doing such pranks or interviews on KZread or tv. I think the only thing that came close to what jj was doing at the time is the impractical jokers (they’re a group who basically make prank videos but for tv)
4:02 Back in like 2013 - 2017 there used to be websites where players could buy FIFA coins for better value than EA sold points. These websites like G2A or MMOGA sponsored FIFA KZread channels for a lot of money, as the ads played at the start of almost every FIFA video back in the day.
I've followed KSI's journey for 9 years and the man's optimism has always been as high as it can be, it easily translates to a loyal fan base. The fifa coins thing is basically comprised of websites that sell fifa coins, which sponsored KSI, it was a huge cash cow scene
I'm not gonna say that Reddit was the reason he grew I'm gonna say his laugh had a pretty big part to play as well :p
Great vid. Been following Ksi for 10 years now. Cool seeing his journey laid out in this format. Thank you!
Missed you guys 🥺
Ive been watching KSI for 3 years, even before he had a reddit. The reason I watch him is he is funny, charismatic and relatable. He reminds me of will smith and eddie murphy. His looks and personality makes him very marketable. I think certain creators are meant to be stars based on their looks and personality, Liza koshy and KSI are the only creators I have seen on either youtube or tiktok that have star quality it takes to make it big in the mainstream media.
This is why love these two guys. I’ve been watching every piece of content KSI puts out, for more than two years now. I’m even active on his Reddit, but still, the points they talked about, I hadn’t even thought of. Great work guys, and the editing was also amazing on this one. Cheers!
One of the key components that hasn't been discussed here is how his immediate friends/creators also keep him inside the content loop (not only reddit) for the audience, by reacting to his videos or mentioning/clickbaiting him into their videos. So even when he takes a break, people know his whereabouts if you watch one his friends' videos. KSI has done what even MrBeast/ PewDiePie haven't. Create a KZreadr ecosystem.
This was a fantastic video because of how you presented your story with each hook wanting to learn more and more about KSI's journey. I think, like most younger KZreadrs, the audience followed him along as he grew up as well. Something hard to but still manageable to do.
Amazing video guys !!! I have been in this journey since the start of 2020 and feel like a part of the creator economy.. keep it up ...
Why is this video so underrated? Great Video, Colin and Samir!
This 💛!!!! I might be overly involved in this story but being a part in your reddit journey is just one of the most amazing feelings as a creator so far. You also just closed a loop from last year where repeatedly I've heard you say community will create creators and I just saw that with Mo! Can't wait to see which characters will emerge from your subreddit. Thank you for every minute of this!
6:21 Thank you so much for this Colin!! Imma make sure to come to this timestamp everyday to remind myself on how humble I need to be.
Amazing video as always. To think a person can be a boxer and a meme reactor at the same time.
I really love how y’all put “pop ups” of what people are talking about in the video. It’s very helpful, and helps newer uninformed viewers, like me lol, understand what is being described👍🏾
He’s just the GOAT. there will never be another KZreadr like JJ. MAN ACCOMPLISHES EVERYTHING HE PUTS HIS MIND TO.

I love your definition of Creator, Colin. It's encompassing a growth mindset, which I think is needed as a creator. Fluid and always moving.
Very well created video!! Edits are on point, conversations are relevant and interesting, and most importantly, the dedication from you guys to cover this topic thoroughly is insane. Looking forward to the video on the sidemen.

KSI literally does everything 😂
I have been waiting for this episode for so long lol
I feel another huge factor for JJ’s strong community is the simple fact that he’s from the U.K. The U.K. loves their youtubers massively its honestly become a part of their culture. You can see the strong passion at things like KSI’s Press Conferences. Fans were literally throwing cans of paint at Logan from roof tops because of the sense of unity and love there is in the tight knit space of U.K. KZread. Logan even says it himself that’ no one does it like the U.K.’ There’s been an entire generation that have grown up with the sidemen and it builds a connection you don’t get with youtubers in other countries that don’t act the way they do where they’re literally just friends having a good time.
These are very informative videos. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve always wondered the same thing, major respects to KSI 👏🏻
in reference to the fifa coins, he's talking about the sponsors on his youtube videos who were fifa coin sellers. Back in prime fifa days, coin selling websites would pay KZreadrs crazy amount of money for short ads at the start of their videos
Ksi gotta show the reddit mods some more love xD Great video overall, very well edited! Great stuff Colin and Samir!
The secret to Jj’s success is the knowledge of his audience…. he knows exactly what his real core audience want, have and would like to know…. he takes every criticism in a constructive way and guess what he actually tries to improve his content and that’s why he is the king of pivot… He has gone through his ups and downs and his lows were pretty grim but his entire mental state and the ecosystem around him enables him to succeed most of the times… Also one of his major driving forces like many of us is the fear of failure… Jj refuses to take Ls…Literally…. And the last part of his success is his diversification, lack of massive egos and the collective Sidemen …it all comes together perfectly
Very well-made video. The Sidemen also played a massive part in his growth. One thing not mentioned in the video is the amount of *side* businesses he's got going for example side+, sides, XIX vodka, etc.
Pewdiepie has been doing the Reddit community strategy and reaction videos for a long time and arguably is a key factor in his success
I was about to complain and say that KZread wasn’t recommending me your videos anymore but just noticed that you guys just haven’t been posting lol I can’t wait till you guys are back tho keep it up💯
i was waiting for a ksi video, i havent watched it yet but i bet its gonna be EPIC!
Creator mindset 🔥
he’s gone clear. successful youtuber, successful brands, mainstream musician, professional boxer and even starred as a lead actor in his own movie
JJ has a whole ecosystem of content and supporters, it is amazing how self-sustaining it is. it never stops, just constant cycle and rotation of content 24/7 Really is the best community of people
There is no secret it’s pure hardwork the man is a sicko when it comes to working
Back in the fifa days, pack openings were a big thing. Basically you had to make a fantasy football team with real players and you could procure the players in packs. You could buy packs either with fifa points which were sold by EA themselves or you could buy fifa coins which were sold by a third party website. The fifa coins were cheaper than buying fifa points. So youtubers like ksi would do pack openings reactions and be sponsored by these fifa coins sellers and apparently they had an extremely lucrative deal with the coins sellers. The deal along with the hype behind fifa pack openings allowed these youtubers to rake in millions.
Aside from the amazing content per usual, I really appreciate the hours you all put into this video. Has to be the best edited video you guys have put out in this format. Hope this does numbers on here
I was so bored man thnx for the vid keep it up
Fans like JJ because he's a genuine, funny and likeable guy. He hasn't changed and he is so talented at what he does & he always entertains us. He has a lot of ambition and drive which has got him where he is today and he deserves all of his success and popularity
Given how you nailed the community based creator and different chapters of KSI's content, it reminded me of Pewdiepie and how his meme reviews + reddit community pretty much changed KZread as a whole in terms of the react genre and engaging with your community. I'd love an analysis video from y'all about Pewdiepie/Felix! Great job once again :)
Good video. Been a fan of ksi since he came around so it’s cool to see how you all broke it down.
I’m terms of creating space for my community, I would think along the lines of something like a discord server or go down the path of Colin and Samir with Reddit, or even have both at the same time. Even though I am young in this world of developing content, I appreciate all these little lessons both Colin and Samir have for us content creators. There’s possible chances for me to connect with some early fans of my work and I’d probably like to hear from them first before making a space for them to connect and share with one another. That way we all are on the same page when going down the community space path.
Great content as always. It was interesting that everything you mentioned about KSI (his evolution, active subreddit that helps create content, etc), is very similar to Pewdiepie. Pewd's subreddit is larger and he used to do weekly meme reviews, content of which came directly from top voted posts his subreddit.
Great video guys! Missed videos like these!
Very interesting! Another creator I at least knew of but didn't actually know about.
love your videos! one feedback i have tho is maybe don't use a gate for your mics? i feel like it's less noticeable to have the noise always playing, rather than hearing the noise and then not hearing it over again. also the noise might just be nice to fill up the silence. hope this helps and keep up the good vids! :)
Colin and Samir. What is going on with the videos? They’re so freaking well edited and put together! No doubt you guys will hit a million this year. I believe so!
damn Colin's quote about mindset is amazing!
3:53 KSI had a sponsorship with a business who sold the fifa in-game currency for cheaper than EA did. It was eventually banned but he made stacks promoting them back in the day
Great analysis, a totally different point of view from the videos made about KSI from others
Honestly, I started watching KSI because he was the first black KZreadr I saw who was like me. First gen, parents migrated to a first world, predominantly white country. I'm a year younger than him and female, and not saying girls don't watch gaming vids, but I personally was only interested in the vids with his family and friends (inc. Simon who needs more respect). I just felt so seen- but also shocked because he would say some outrageous things and his Nigerian parents seemed way more chill than my parents would be. Still watching his vids 10 years later, seeing how the boys have grown, its been cool! Obviously don't support all they do, but the friendship between the sidemen is so endearing. His arc with his brother is very inspiring as well. His maturity (mostly) is refreshing. I could say more but I hope you do a video dissecting the sidemen. And Simon needs more rep for helping JJ get to where he is today. They're legit best friends and I like how Simon looks out for him (like the other boys).
