Because Kobe was so good that Shaq called 22 year-old Kobe “the best player on all 9 planets” after Kobe’s 33/7/7 on 51.4% (in less efficient era) swept Duncan’s Spurs in 01 WCF. If you actually watched those championship runs, Kobe was the Superman when it mattered most in the toughest series out West. Shaq got FMVP because of weak center matchups in the Finals (Philly also played him straight up). Kobe had HOF matchups at guard on both ends.

I doubt he has the kindest heart, but he probably has the lowest IQ - basketball or otherwise. He’s funny and goofy because he’s big and stupid. The worst player in the WNBA could shoot free throws better than him. I respect people who earned their position, he was just born big and lucky. I would take him on my team any day of the week, but I think he’s one of the least skilled basketball players of all time.

I couldn't see it at first bc all I knew about him was on the court but overall, Shaq will rarely admit where he could have done better. And when he does, he never tells the full story. And so he changes his stories a bit, add or takes away some details and overall always sugarcoats things in some way. Like when talking about D Wade taking over in Miami for his 4th ring. He said he couldn't do a lot bc he was getting double and triple teamed, going thru a divorce etc but will never admit to being overweight. He was overweight thru most of the Lakers title runs! He was plainly lazy AF! He can't admit to it bc his ego is still too big. He's a good guy but if he let go of his ego at least somewhat, he'd be a great dude.

Shaq then comes back and starts crying so phil tells kobe to dial it back in or were gonna lose the big fella. @@shepardice3775 There is no such thing as the GOAT or even top 10 list. However, for entertainment sake, I'll say my piece. Why not? Why can't Kobe be in the convo? All the criticism against those guys gets brushed aside, but when it comes to Kobe, it is amplified. Kareem and Magic had each other too. Both of those guys were taller and stronger than Kobe. They were bound to be successful from the beginning compared to Kobe. Magic on offense and defense were subpar compared to Kobe. I'm not even talking about a season here and there. I'm talking about overall career. Even Magic said Kobe was the best Laker. If you actually go back and remember Kareem's career. He won an MVP with a losing record. His overall offensive numbers don't equate to how people perceive him. So much bias is going on. LeBron? Don't even mention his name with MJ. So, are you telling me that GOAT standard is so low that you need to bring up a player who lost 6 finals, 2 sweeps and team jumping 3 times stacking the deck? See, every player has weaknesses and the environmental circumstances that they all play in. When casuals ignore all these different factors and go straight into, "Kobe is not in the GOAT convo!!!" That loses so much credibility. All the players you think should be in the GOAT debate need to be reanalyzed again. People forget all the weaknesses and down years of their favorite players and hate on players they feel threatened. Once again, I personally think GOAT debate is pathetic and not scientific at all.

I would love to hear a whole podcast with Shaq talking about his teammates Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts, Kobe, D Wade, Penny and LeBron. Usually he will give one line or a single story. I watched the whole thing unfold between him and Chris Jackson. I watched LSU before Shaq got there. Jackson had back-to-back 50 point games as a freshman. He was SUPER nasty!! (For older guys, I think Tim Hardaway stole Chris Jackson's crossover. Tim had the UTEP 2 step but not the crossover. Then Tim Played Jackson in college and next thing you know, Tim is crossing everyone with CJ's move)Then Shaq came in. Stanley was clearly better than Shaq. Stanley had at least as many moves as Hakeem, maybe more, no exaggeration. Shaq had no moves and no hops. But then Shaq had that breakout game against Arizona on national TV. Shaq put the whole Arizona team in the rim and the basketball world shifted. There was a power struggle between Jackson and Shaq, and, what could have been one of the greatest teams in college history, ended up being extreme under-achievers. That isn't a one-liner. It is an entire movie. And that is just Jackson and Roberts. Bty the way, Jackson was my guy. I stole ALL of his moves, Kobe style. I actually met him a few months ago. He is the best. So is Shaq!!

So basically you wrote a giant essay to dickride two randoms. Got it. Shaq averaged 14 and 12 with 3.5 blocks and over a steal a game as a freshman. Roberts averaged 14 and 10 with under 2 blocks a game as a sophomore in almost identical minutes. Worse shooting percentages too. Roberts was not in Shaq's league and his NBA career speaks volumes to that. Dunno why you disrespecting Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf by calling him his old name either. But I guess somehow 'he's your guy'.

The no family on the plane until the finals, is a good policy. Makes everyone understand that the finals are not something your just stumble into. You have to sacrifice more than those who don't make it. If you start making a string of finals, you can lax the rule as a reward.

Shaq was an underrated passer, but he was never the ball-handler and facilitator Kobe was. With that triangle offense, Kobe was the MJ + Pippen. He shot 25-30% better from the FT line. A huge advantage for Kobe in the crunch-time moments. He would guard the opposing team’s best perimeter scorer. With his play-making, FT-shooting, perimeter defense and clutch shot-making, things Shaq could never provide LAL the way Kobe could, Kobe was the go-to guy in a big game that was close in the final minutes. Shaq was the #1, but with Kobe giving LAL all that ‘01, ‘02, & ‘03, while scoring just as many points (technically a smidge more), he may have been closer to 1b than “Robin.”

One thing that always baffled me about the people that say Shaq was "the man" on that 3-peat Lakers squad, is that they always fail to realize that Kobe was the closer for that team. Imagine claiming being the best player for your team, but you can't hit clutch free throws to seal the game, or hit a clutch jumper or 3-pointer to cut the lead to 1. Every single time they fail to mention that Kobe was the true closer and the true "man" for the Lakers. You can't be "the man" and not be able to finish out a game. Same reason why Bron can thank Kyrie for that ring in Cleveland.

Shaq loves to downplay their rivalry now, but nah, those two hated each other off the court. They just knew they needed each other to win while on the court. To specify I only mean when they were on the Lakers together and about a year or two after Shaq left, obviously they reconciled as time went on.

Shaq is salty because he was supposed to be that man in Lakers and he was to a degree until a young kid came and exemplified all the qualities that Shaq knew he had to had them himself but wasn't fond of discipline. You can't be salty when someone younger comes and takes the helm of the team in a way you yourself couldn't . Pippen is salty about MJ to this day . Kobe was pointing his mistakes back then and it took him 2 decades to catch up to what he was talking about . Shaq and Kobe had the opportunity to be the greatest duo ever .

Vice versa. Really just 2 killers who worked together for wins
