I heard the screaming from the back of the build tent. Crazy seeing the full reactions! Certainly a lot of room for improvement but great concept - I want one!
Too many years flying real airplane as soon as it started to spin I felt my foot twitch trying to press the rudder pedal to arrest the rotation LOL ... speaking of which the chair needs rudder pedals.
Add rudder pedals and you will really be in business! I worked with Redifusion and Boeing to update their 3-axis E3-A simulator back in the 80's. The Redifusion digital system replaced the previous one that used a small gimbaled camera over a large 3-D model of the ground. The model had lots of damaged from previous 'crashes'! The new system was so authentic that you would break out into a sweat in simulated emergencies!!

Well yeah
Great idea, however... the seat should NOT follow the motion of the aircraft, it should respond to g-loading/acceleration experienced by the aircraft. So, if the a/c accelerates (like on take off) then the seat will tilt the pilot backwards, simulating the acceleration the pilot would feel in a real a/c!
Ahhh, very cool! Also, I loved the large Fokker DR I on the table behind you at the end of the video! Show us that!
full motion actually seems so fun

So glad we could be a joyous part of your day friend! ha Lets GO!
Add Pan and Tilt gimbal.
Can't tell if they're already doing this but the chair should only tilt to reflect the direction of gravity/acceleration, not the attitude of the plane. Coordinated turns should do nothing.
This version of the flite chair is awesome and nice recovery from those spirals Josh cause I was sure you where going to crash 👍👏

this is pretty dope war thunder in real life but with rc planes + drones.
Could you add some position sensors to the FPV headset, so it can tell when you turn your head. Then mount the cameras on a gimbal inside the plane so that as you look around the cameras also look around.
@scottlampe70
12 күн бұрын
I was thinking stick one of those 360 cameras in there and just have the goggles look at a certain field of view. left, right, up, down, wherever you turn your head, as fast as you turn your head. you could even simulate a planes cockpit with gauges and everything.
@chrissugg968
12 күн бұрын
@@scottlampe70 Looking back at it again, I'm wondering if they've already got it set up like that. There's a couple of shots of the outside of the plane and you can see it looks like a 360 cam in the nose, and you can see the image is stabilised - the plane's nose wobbles around independently of the view. You can also see Josh looking out to the side when he's about to land.
@scottlampe70
12 күн бұрын
@chrissugg968 yeah, I did notice the stabilisation. I don't recall seeing a field of view away from the nose of the plane though. But that image may not have been what the pilot was seeing through the goggles. It's an awesome set up either way. They're going to be dogfighting soon.

It's called head tracking and it's already a thing the camera gets mounted on some servos and you have a gyro on the goggles.
You should do a collab with Doc Holloway in Penticton BC. He has been working on a flight simulator chair for 16 years, and was even featured on dragons den.
Excelente project! A note: You need to add a feet support attached to the chair for people be able to support your feet, otherwise they will remain there in the air.

This is AMAZING!!!! Conspicuously rudder pedals are missing...made the rig too heavy? Seems like there was a bit of lag in the Tx and VTx and the controls. Any consideration displaying a virtual six-pack in the FPV goggle's? (attitude indicator, heading indicator, turn indicator, etc.)
Great job Michael !

Thanks for the idea friend! Appreciate it! ;)
Does the chair rotate according to what’s happening to the plane or is it responding to just the sticks?
I’ve seen another pilot create a similar x-y axis controller, except his was an enclosed cockpit, had full aircraft controls (including foot pedals) and it was mounted on a small trailer. Instead of FPV goggles he had 360’ video screens. This was a some years ago… Couple the ability to mount much more robust x-y feedback, more space for CPUs to process input and such, I could see an even greater potential for a trailer mounted cockpit now that we have HD video transmission and 360’ cameras.
Add pan/tilt control to the camera and have them controlled by head tracking equipment for a truly immersive experience.
wow thats awsome, wish I had that!

now u can make business, whit this chair, offering a realistic fly experience and rent the fly hours.. And u can make block control if the person are bad players u can block his controls and land safely whitout damages. (srry for my bad english its not my first lenguage)
This would be a time a wind sim setup would be proper, much respect!
The black box we used in the early 1990's was the size of a cigarette pack. We plugged it in line with a force feedback joystick and then into the buddy box port. I think the box was around $130. It used the audio port of the video transmitter to send the data down. That same company also made a 3D video setup that we used to fly with. Only effective at close proximity so not great for airplanes(except for formation flying) but the helicopter and ground vehicles was awesome!
Really Really great!!! Is there a build log, or is it opensource?
It's hard not living in the US... About 2 years ago I made a sim chair work with a drone that was being controlled from the other side of the world.
looks fantastic. Really impressive to have built that. Is the camera something like an insta 360? where if you turn your head your vision moves as well? So you could look over your wing, or behind the plane?
These plane are so cool I wish I had one
The only things missing are linear motion and head tracking! Incredible project!
Does it also have head tracking where you can look around?
if you could display some flight instruments like speed and Attitude indicator the googles that would be even more awesome. Also i think the position of the fpv camera needs to be centered on the plane or where the pilot would be sitting.
Pretty sweet piece of engineering. Will rudder pedals be added?

Great Idea! Could def be a fun one!
With a coordinated rudder, does the ball stay in the middle? Does the seat remain stationary? It would be really rad to model gyro forces compared to just attitude and angle. Or even a combination of all of those.
Need to get feedback from an on-board accelerometer. Looks like the chair tilt is based on controller input only right now. Still very neat
Okay now you need to build an f-86 and fly it with this thing!
Next step is a full-range gimbal seat? Step after that had better be a Fly-By-Wireless Cessna with you in the rear passenger seats.
You can't do this to me! I'm going to write two exams about controller engineering next week, my mind is stuffed full with this right now, so my eyes are going to latch on everything that slightly translates to it for the next few weeks (an engineering mind can be troublesome). It urges me to calculate what it would take for a state controller to sync up the chair's and plane's movement, if you take the chair's much higher inertia into account when designing the controller or if that's even within the limits of the actuators. Anyway watching such a fun video that relates to the topic puts my mind at ease, thanks a lot.
next stop would be a full cockpit held by an industrial robot arm
Hey Josh were you touching cloth with that second Brown-Out?

Now you need foot pedals to work the actual rudder and to make the chair work in the yaw axis. And it will help to learn to fly the RV
When will they implement a full flex screen with total FPV assimilation As a fully enclosed unit, encompass your surroundings with said full RC control
Now you need to hook the camera in the plane up so it follows your vision as well.
ELRS FTW!!! Run that on the down link too for latency.
Foot pedals for rudder and brakes…
Came here from Michael's video
Can I pair it with MICROSOFT 2020 FLT SIM.
Is your view '360'? ie when you look around/up/down, the camera tracks your head movements? Sorry if this is a silly question. I don't know much about fpv stuff :)
where can i get instructions / plans on how to build this?
flight controller he is using has a .5 second transmit delay on angle data. the stabalization on the fpv camera needs to tone down as well to more mimic the human head movement, needs to be more "sticky"
I had a malfunction with my Flite Test Space Fighter that I built at FliteFest. The plane just took off and didn't respond. I hope that it will find its way "home" but I'm not confident. Sad with the effort and cost I put into it. FliteFest was an awesome event.

@@FliteTest There are videos of 360X360 chairs used to train astronauts and since it is all NASA the technical specs are public information through the National Library. All that would be needed is a fast strong drive system and wireless control interface. Why reinvent the wheel (all pun intended) just refine and evolve the existing technology. The example below is at Space Camp in Alabama and Kansas. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXqL1buDYMKxfaw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/aGSNmpiDp86xoag.html
