Once you understand that John Wilkes Booth did not die at the Garrett farm, all the people that say they met Booth after his supposed death become believable. Is there proof that Booth did not die at the Garrett farm? Yes there is. One example follows. Booth made investments under his stage name, John B. Wilkes. After killing Lincoln, he escaped to India. Using the name of a friend, John Byron Wilkes, Booth wrote a will giving John Wilkes Booth’s money to Booth’s heirs. To give his will believability, he included the wife and daughters of John Byron Wilkes. When the will arrived in the United States, Ulysses S. Grant investigated and validated the will. The money was paid to Booth’s wife, lovers, children, and friends. The only reason we have a copy of the will is that one of the daughters of John Byron Wilkes sued the estate. She believed someone was trying to cheat her out of her rightful inheritance. Her case was denied and John Wilkes Booth’s heirs received their money. In addition to the lawsuit, we know the money was paid because a lawyer named Robert B. Stewart was directed to end payments after everyone received their inheritance. This is fact, not fiction. You should believe the people that say Booth lived to an old age. You can read the book by Finis L. Bates, “The Escape and Suicide of John Wilkes Booth.” I also tell about Booth’s escape in my book, “Lincoln, Davis, and Booth: Family Secrets.”
