They buy food from farmer's markets and fresh fish, or meat from the butcher and they prepare home cooked meals in good quality and healthy olive oil. They also do portion control and don't overdo fast food. At least that is what I come to understand from people from ITALY or visit there

Most people over there don't have the money so yes they grow there own. If your a vegan here in the US there's ways to make your soil good for planting vegetables. There's an actress that's really into health and vegan and shows how she and her husband do their soil. Buy because if my wife and my age we must be doing something right.

Everything they do in the USA is for money. They don't care about the people's health. The FDA is not even regulating food well because there is not much money in it for them like there are in drugs. Hence why people in the USA who are truly healthy have to be good at reading food labels. I mean GMO has to be labeled and known in Europe for food companies, but not in the USA. Olive oil has more calories than butter.

  • @Humpelstilzchen

    @Humpelstilzchen

    3 ай бұрын

    @@mikehawk302 That's true but calories aren't everything... There are 3 main points in favor of olive oil compared to butter. Firstly, olive oil has a better fatty acid composition than butter, as it consists primarily of unsaturated fatty acids (such as those found in fish, avocados and nuts). Background: Unsaturated fatty acids have several double bonds between the carbon atoms. In comparison, there are saturated fatty acids (such as those found in butter, cream and sausage), where there are no double bonds between the carbon atoms. Unsaturated fatty acids are therefore more reactive and can be used in a variety of ways in the metabolism. The German Nutrition Society therefore recommends replacing saturated fatty acids with unsaturated fatty acids. This reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and the cholesterol concentration in the blood. Secondly, olive oil contains vitamin K, vitamin E, provitamin A and, above all, polyphenols. Background: Polyphenols are natural antioxidants that slow down the formation of free radicals in the body and counteract oxidative stress and cell damage. They are antioxidant, blood pressure regulating and anti-inflammatory.

    I'm from the US and have been here in Italy for about one year, the food is so good and much better quality. Italians look much healthier and are very beautiful. I was in Milan recently and noticed a large crowd of people waiting on the sidewalk and thought they might be in line for an art exhibit or a club but turns out it was a McDonald's!!! I hope US fast food and large chains do not come over here and ruin things.

    I remember staying at a hotel at Lake Garda in Northern Italy. Almost all of the guests were Germans or Austrians, but there was a group of about 30 y/o Italians. In the morning the German/Austrian badly dressed and in many cases overweight hordes swarmed the breakfast buffet and stuffed themselves with tons of food. When almost all the Germans were gone the Italian group arrived in the breakfast area, got themselves a cappuccino and a small breakfast. They enjoyed their very moderate breakfast, the morning sun and the view on the now almost empty patio before heading off to - judging by their dress - a bike tour. That was a very vivid lesson, showing the difference between culture and barbarianism. It was almost surreal.

    Really nice video Irene, I just subscribed to your channel and liked it! As an Italian living abroad, I'm often asked "why don't Italians get fat?", or "how can you eat so much?", etc. (disclaimer: I am a very thin person 😆) It got to the point I started doubting our diet and culinary choices. However, I soon realized that what non-Italians often perceive or think about our diet is not so true. You very well explained it in the video, talking about our breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Living in Slovakia, I realized that e.g. they might not always eat pizza and pasta (it's a common misconception that Italian always eat that anyway), but they eat very fatty foods, being it cheeses, butters, meats, etc. and the same applies to many tasty dishes from all over north/northeast Europe, or with fast food, etc. Fizzy drinks is also something very common 'abroad', while we normally only drink water with our daily meals - especially at home!

    Based on my recent visit to Italy, I ate MORE Italian pasta there than in America. However I lost a lot of weight in my Italian trip. I supposed to gain weight from consuming a lot of carbohydrates pasta, but I lost weight instead. Turns out in my trip to Italy, I walk a lot. Driving in Italy is difficult with high traffic. So walking is the best option to go from point A to point B. Because I walk a lot in Italy, it contributes to my weight loss in my Italian trip

    Never get fat?? (Thumbnail)That’s a huge exaggeration. Obesity in Italy has been increasingly cited as a major health issue in recent years. 45% of the Italian population have a BMI over 25, which is the limit for normal weight. That means 34% is overweight. It’s quite good by many standards but you can’t say that Italians never get fat.

    No industrial HFCS nor chemically extracted and bleached seed oils (canola, soybean, cotton seed). Poor labeling leads to olive oil being diluted with seed oils, or olive oil being extracted with the same processing as seed oils. Longer food transport distances so everything is picked green and ripens in the trucks, store, or home and not on the tree/vine.
