I've always thought the Safety Car was kinda awesome. The F1 cars are weaving around behind, barely going fast enough to make their systems work properly.....but at the front is a VERY powerful road car, which is tearing around at what would be an impressive pace in any other context.

@@juliusscizor8122 depending on which tire compound the car is using, there is an optimal range of temperature and pressure for these tires for perfomance. Having it in this optimal temperature is extremely vital for the cars

So funny. He's driving that FAST car on its limit and the F1 cars are like - why so slow??

The medical car is the one car that starts every race and is featured in every race for sure....the hope always is that it never will be used in the race....but still it too might be full of different type of tech than the safety car. SO YUP...THE MEDICAL CAR TOO....

The street version of this car can go up to 318km/h already so I guess they’re never really pushing it. Plus it wouldn’t make any sense cause it’s a *safety* car

@@finnzimmermann8390 it takes quit long voor this car to reach that speed. Also the speed in cornering is much slower due to a lack of downforce compared to f1 cars.

@@finnzimmermann8390 It's all about cornering speed, e.g. a bugatti chiron can beat a f1 car on a straight (if you have a 10km straight, and the f1 car has a high downforce setup)

It is German after all. Lol Us version? Safety official: Send the pace car out! Driver: gets in a stock Mustang and pulls ahead of the race cars and slows everyone down. Also driver: gets all clear to get off track and simply drives off at the next safest point and the race is back on. LOL

Great video! Unfortunately, some questions weren't answered. For example, do Bernd and his co-driver sit in the car all race, or do they sit outside but close-by? What tires does the car run on, for example during a dry race that suddenly turns wet?

Having been a marshal at one of the races had the chance to be up close with the safety car, the previous version(2011-12), I think. Its a beast. Looks absolutely amazing. Would love to see a sequel to this, of how the car is set up, its maintenance, inventory carried to each race, backup car, etc.

He is so precise, sharp and conveys so much of information in such a simple manner. He is so German !

Ratibor Raskolnikov Charlie Whiting was the race director of F1. He pushed for a lot of things pertaining to safety, especially after Jules Bianchi’s horrific crash in 2014 that ultimately took his life. But beyond that, he was the guy that all the drivers would come to about regulations and all the red tape that they have to deal with once they come onto the track. He wanted F1 to stay exciting, but also as safe as anyone could keep it. At the end of the day he was a genuine fan, just like the rest of us.

It is amazing how it could turn into a virtual safety car and back as soon as a certain driver was in trouble! It is still amazing me to this day!
