Great video Steve . I met with Roger Bullivant a few years ago and he was a very nice well mannered educated guy ,as I remember he was responsible for a lot of the design and engineering of both pile systems and also rigs .I would imagine that he is retired now! Although the piling seems easy it is of course the site engineer that sets it all out for the rig to place the driven piles .I haven’t seen this type of cropper as a few years ago they called them polo mints as they were circular with hydraulic chisels that were spread around the circle which was lowered on chains over the pile and a press of a button the chisels came out and crushed the pile at ( cut off point) Ground stabilisation is perhaps not totally right if the machines are just mixing up material to spread ! If for instance you had bad ground due to mining then you would have a converted track machine with a long steel tube attached connected to a good water main and this would blast a mixture of cement ash and other stuff which I can’t remember but basically the ground would be peppered with holes some going down 30 feet plus and once the holes are pumped filled the ground of course would be stable .Its noisy messy ,filthy work . The other advantage with this system is that the services can be laid and carefully backfilled .As you state the negative for Brickies is the loss of good work ( if you call paddling in shit and mud all day “good work” Got a little wall repair to do this weekend so mask on and off I go .

Ronnie Biggs .Nice one Ronnie , very interesting 👌🏼. The piling lads told us that Roger sold up a while ago now and it’s all owned by Bachey Solestance ( excuse the spelling ) so they have all the big commercial stuff and now the domestic market too . The Bullivant workers say it’s gone down the nick now. We’ve been on a site in Standish/ Wigan where they were pumping all that filthy muck , they emptied their pipes every night which ended up in our trenches , lost bastards 🤬🤬👍🏼🧱

Bricklaying With Steve and Alex I Thought they would ,it’s a proper” Wild West “ in that game . I only rambled on so that folks who are interested gained a little knowledge. When I did some heavy piling at the new St Helens multi Storey the pile mat was laid some ten foot deep ,the piles where augured out then the hole was reinforced and filled with concrete . The mat was then reduced leaving at least 8foot of concrete pile sticking out the ground x about 60 no we then had to get alloy towers to get to the top and at the time there were retired miners knocking about and as these piles could be 2feet in diameter the miners armed with jack hammers and the smaller CP9 air breakers attacked them with vigor💪💪💪💪reducing them to COP cut off point.
