How It’s Like Joining a LION DANCE Troupe in Singapore!🇸🇬

Enable cc for English subtitles! Lion Dance Troupe 雷勇 invited me to experience Singapore's traditional culture. Lion Dance is held throughout the year, but becomes most busy on Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year).
The lion, a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, chases away evil spirits and brings hapiness, longevity, and good luck.
【Table of Contents】
1:12~ Exploring their secret base
7:57~ Why Lion Dance is held in Singapore
9:54~ How much does lion dancers earn?
11:38~ The best way to get around Singapore | Lion Dance Truck!
13:53~ The origin of Lion Dance
15:13~ The meaning of the cabbage (vegetables)
16:54~ Lion Dance performance
It was such a rare experience to get on the truck and film all the behind-the-scenes. A BIG thank you to Dominic and the members of 雷勇 for welcoming me and letting me experience this culture.

This is one of the few interesting content that Ghibli San has put out! I am always very interested in lion dance but didn’t understand much, perhaps i used to find the people doing lion dace a little ‘ rough’, guess I am just too narrow minded. Glad I learn a thing or two from this clip. Thanks!Anyway, Dominic’s Japanese is so so good, it put me to shame; I have been learning Japanese more than 10 over years and could hardly have the confidence to speak it. Really admire him, and he is quite charming too. Thanks 😊

Without watching the video, Dominic sounds like a guy from Japan when speaking Japanese.

really miss the sounds of the lion dance which as dominic said, were abundant in the past. colloquially its called "dom dom chang" as an onomatopoeic phrase!

I once saw a troupe doing that giant flag balancing act right next to 2 Ferraris. I was like, 'damn these guys are very confident of their skills'.

Japanese traditions also have a Lion Dance called "Shishimai" whereas these Chinese Lions are similar but look different and the drum and sounds are also different.
