Netflix needs to fire the writers they hired for this film. Absolutely terrible. They never ever explain what was going on or why... which was the only reason I kept on watching until the end because everything else was as predictable as can be... father who wants to protect his daughter from the lead man who isn't even that bad. They go on an adventure to save his daughter/his lover and then get close because of it... No one had a decent motive for why they did anything in the film. No explanation for why the bad guys were bad or why the good guys were good. There was a build up which lead to nothing and it didn't come together in the end. It ended with them literally driving away with a volcano chasing them and the lead guy saying, "we're going to be okay." It was total garbage. Would highly discourage you from watching.

I don't know why so many comments are negative about this movie. I really liked it. I know most were waiting for the big reveal at the end about "why?!", but I don't think that was the message here. I think it was more about how people react when an "event" happens where all communications are taken down and they (and we, as the viewers) are left completely in the dark, struggling to make sense of it all while just trying to stay alive. I thought it was very well done and Whittaker, as usual, gave a great performance.

Thanks just goes to show how unimaginative people have become, and need to be spoon fed information. It seemed like more of a foreshadowing movie than one with a neat bow. I watched the trailer because I read so many reviews and thought……yeah this is exactly how it will end. Seemed like the film was trying to capture the nightmare that life will become because we rely so much on the government to tell how to behave/act/what to do/ save us/provide for us/ give direction/supply facilities etc and if/when the coms do go down it’s going to get ugly really fast!! I’m surprised so many people totally missed the point of ……. This is how it’s going to end the civil in civilised society!!

The Ring of Fire isn't a connected thing, even if fox news or the express or the Daily X wants you to think that. It is just the Pacific coast with subduction zones that are divided by transversal faults. No volcano over a few km apart is connected to each other and is gonna trigger each other. Yes, there is a big earthquake expected at the west coast, since it didn't had any large quake while almost every other subduction zones experienced some in the same time frame. No it wont set off Yellowstone or any cascade volcano. If that would be the case, then the all the volcanoes on chiles west coast should have erupted aswell after the 1960 9.5 Mag. Earthquake. *Volcanoes don't work like that*

They should have named it "How it ends doesn't matter" because there really is no ending. Pretty much a zombie apocalypse scenario without the zombies. It had me engaged throughout. 3/5

Yes they could have done a better job, but this is not about the disaster, not about the science, it is about human behavior in the face of a major disaster and no one giving your any info, the panic, and how far each of us are willing to go and what you can live with. There are plenty of clues as to what happened especially at the end of the movie and the point of the ending is that the future is uncertain, but life will never be the same. It is also about people putting aside their differences to work to a common goal - rescuing a loved one. It isn't the best, but you can still get something out of it. Almost all of the reviewers have missed the point because they expected the usual disaster movie and didn't get it - sad for them to be so short sighted. Comments also prove that people are not paying attention to the reality around them, have learned nothing, want to be spoon fed instead every time or are aware but prefer a distraction from the current reality that we aren't as good as we believed because this may serve as a reminder of what human are really capable of, and that we are already seeing these kinds of things happen without a disaster. It could be too disturbing for some people.

James McCarthy I disagree, I think the trailer gives away just enough not too much) of the plot so as for the audience to start envisioning paths, it may take i.e we know the father is a military man, ergo survivalist, strong, reliable...we can now imagine him taking command of situations, leading, teaching etc...but as to how, we don't know...husband/boyfriend...seems like a "working professional" green around the ears, needs motivating, but has he's heart in the right place...from what we are given, we can see he's going to have a huge learning curve...showing the girl? I think that was genius...it shows, their initial struggle will bear some fruition, but will she survive till the end, or will they, perhaps. As to what the phenomenon is? All we know is that it's a series of global disasters with a hint of the unexplained. A few closely guarded secrets. Just from this clip, this is what I've ascertained, no, I don't think they've revealed too much...I think, for the target audience, it's enough to get them hooked.

Movies like this are really good for people with OCD and doomsday fears. I’m gonna dive right in.

In Real life: It takes less than two days to cover 2000 miles by driving. In the movie: A whole week on the road.

I’m so happy that Kat Graham is getting roles where her character is appreciate . Hopefully it’s amazing

I enjoy films that are a bit slower paced like this. Unfortunately there is little in this that hasn't been done better in other films, and it's not that well scripted. However the cinematography is really beautiful, and worth watching just for that.

Love a good 'try to outrun the dust cloud' scene.

"How it ends" is a 1h53 min Cadillac commercial, showing you how solid the Cts is build it was fun watching

A wonderful movie seeing the return of Forest Whitaker to the title role I'm glad they introduced Grace Dove watching these guys at it tooth and claw would have been a bit lame but she introduces a great third element into the mix and it turns out to be a great movie Whitaker proves to be his old but perfect self and Theo James fits in perfectly as the reluctant 2nd party but proves himself as he goes along yes a slow film but well acted by all concerned

I agree. I remember the first time I saw him (Forest Whitaker) act was on Kojak. he was like 17 or 16? and I said to myself self, this kid is and will be an awesome actor....

I actually liked this movie. Theo and Forest did great.

If you feel nice and relaxed, and want to change that to completely different mood just watch this.

Only because it was made by a high end movie company with a 200 million dollar budget, which made 769.7 million give or take a few million once it hit box office.

This looks cool - It's been on my watch-list for ages - I just didn't get round to checking it out. Definitely watch it soon :)

Um... Normally I'd be on your side, but I really don't see how they showed too much. I literally only know the base plot. Apocalypse is happening, dad and his daughters boyfriend go to save daughter. That's all we were told. We don't know what's going on with the world and why it's ending, the government, etc.

tyler moran - From the trailer we can see the black guy dies and the girl is alive but is either being loosely held captive or overly protected by some guy, seeing as how we only see him in one scene with the 3 of them together, hes probably a dead captor - the MC has never shot a gun before but has one on him by the time we get to that scene so its safe to say he shot him. There's more to be had but if you didn't catch it then grats, one less movie spoiled by a overly sharing trailer for you.

Clorox Bleach could see disasters happening. But nothing to explain why it's happening. Government secrecy, aliens, or end of the world 2012 type stuff. That's what I was talking about. Wasn't questioning what was happening with the guy. That's pretty straight forward
