How India’s Ambi became “Paisley”
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Whenever my mother drew mehendi (henna) on my hand, she always started with the “Ambi” motif. It was everywhere, on her old sarees, curtains, and jewellery.
When I grew up, I discovered it was called “Paisley”, and I wondered what the story behind this motif was. Let's find out!

Local craftsmen in UP call that mango motif as “ kairi” or kayri ( raw mango) Edit: ohh you already mentioned it 😅
I always knew paisley came from India, but I didn't know it was based on cypress and mangos.

Yes, in Persia they call it boteh, cypress
Ambi remind me of mehendi designs 🙂
I like your channel because you speak about such things which are underrated. You give some unique thoughts regarding fashion. None of any influencer do that ❤❤❤💞💞💞🥰🥰🥰
It reminds me of my carefree adventurous childhood when wealth money status didn't matter much...
In Gujarati, a mango is called as keyri or kairi or keri and most traditional clothes of Gujarat has this mango shaped motif on them. It is one of the symbol and identity of Gujarat along with other symbols like patola, bandhani, mirror wirked clothes etc.. I don't know if it originally came from persia or somewhere else but I know that its really ancient and very traditional for Gujarat just like a swastika and kalash.

I knew it was Kashmir but had no idea the history go beyond this. You are very knowledgeable. I want to know more about Indian fashion. Please can you recommend me some some books or sites detailing Indian fashion from anicent, medieval, modern times. 🙏
Originally its the Persian style (Turmush/Iranian origins), came to India with other Central Asian influences.

The beauty of the design is thanks to Indian influences such as the clustering and beautiful designs ingrained into the paisley pattern, now you can see it all over Iran
In kerala, it is called "mangapinju" design
It’s also used in henna designs (mehndi)
Love your video's manisha di...❤❤

Looks like Indians are seeing the beauty that lies in every nook and cranny of India. I thought my country is blinded with Western immigration and India is dying a slow death. A new revival hopefully of INDIA

What does ambi remind you off? Me: Achaar
Kachi Ambi. with mint chatni 😋
In Konkani, 'ambo' means mango.
I always thought that design is kaju shape cashewnut. While applying heena Design it's more popular as kaju design. Idk much about history about it
It’s called 'ambi' because mango is called amb in Kashmiri. That’s the origin of ambi, from where it was a prominent motif for the shawls and the handicrafts of Kashmir
a great video honestly and no offence but that's not how you pronounce kashmiri. You're saying kaashmiri, instead try shortening the "kaash" part and simply say "kashmiri"
Pls pls pls make on Jennifer winget in bepanah zoya please ❤❤❤ and u are so beautiful ❤
We call it keri !
I thought that pattern is from peacock feathers
पेढे का लाल डब्बा (card box ). जीसपे ऐसी कैरी होती थी।
Ambi reminds me of Achaar
It is kashmir not kaaaashmir .Dont mind❤
Aam ki khatti meethi chatni
We call it 'Pia' in Bihar lol
What is a kashmir design? Is it same as mango.?
Is that raw mango design? I thought it was the ear/ear ring design of Maa Durga, like it is designed in durga statues of bengal during dussera.
Fun fact: paisley is called “cucumbers” I Russia. No idea yet why.
