How iconic Beretta 92FS can claim to be world's most trusted military pistol

Its makers call it the world's most trusted military pistol.
And the Beretta 92FS is its latest incarnation, being demonstrated in the video above by Italian soldiers who provide close protection for VIPs.
The US armed forces used the design for many years, only recently replacing it with the SIG Sauer M17.

Reliability impeccable?!?! Are you talking about the M9?? Because I carried them in the service and I have to be honest, I have a very very low opinion of them. Every one I carried had massive reliability problems, including the brand new one I was issues *including after a break in period. I even purchased my own mags to try to see if the problem was the GI issued mags, it wasn't. They are smooth shooting, but anything but reliable.

The only M9 malfunctions I saw during my 27 years of military service was caused by messed up magazines. What I never liked was the 15 pound double action pull and the 7 pound single pull. Both are way too heavy. The factory sights also sucked. I recommend modifying both if you every must carry one. Thank you for serving our great nation. Be blessed.

@@IRONFOX6-fy5se I know the mags were a big problem, especially the non-OEM ones. (Magazine issues are the leading cause to most weapon malfunctions IMO) I'm surprised you never ran into any other issues in all those years however. I certainly encountered failures to eject and failures to go into battery on the M9s I carried. I think the trigger pull, especially on SA isn't terrible for a general issue service weapon. Like you said, heavy, but I found them to be fairly smooth. For a seasoned shooter, or for someone carrying one as their primary duty weapon I can absolutely see the advantage of dropping in an enhanced trigger. (I always do for my personal glocks) I also agree about the sights, but thats something I find true about most factory sights; just as the trigger, I automatically upgrade them.. I also than you for your service to our great country.

@@alanmcmillan6969 Well out of my own experience. In the 80's the Swedish Armed Forces tried several guns for a new service gun. In the end it was down to a few like Glock 17, Sig Sauer P225/226, Beretta 92. Sweden at that time had an abundance of 9 mm called "9/39B" for their submachine guns. The only gun that stood the test and with a guarantee of 50.000 rounds was Glock, the Beretta was simply not up for it. I can just give an example of guns using the Swedish "9/39B". In Doboj Bosnia in 1996 when I was stationed at the BdeHQ a Danish Major got some of the Swedish 9mm, I do not know how but at the firing range his gun cracked into pieces giving him a nasty injury in the hand when shooting it. Sure he used an old Neuhausen pistol that at the time was Danish service pistol. In 1997 an American officer used the same ammo in his M9 Beretta. Later he found cracks in the metal and the gun was done. I've used the Glock 17/ 19 as a service weapon for a good +30 years and so it's a bit unfair maybe for me to say this since I've not used the Beretta 92 for as long. However I have been deployed alongside troops since the 80's to 2014 and used the Glock in every environment there is from arctic to desert and jungle, the Glock is as reliable as it gets. That's the short essay ;)
