How I Wasted $1000 on Indian Scout Bobber Seats

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Don't do what I did and waste over a grand on saddles! There are plenty of solid options out there for the Indian Scout Bobber, and I chose drum roll please NONE of them! Watch to find out why I did something so dumb, and to hear my thoughts about what I could've picked instead.

Finding the right saddle is the HARDEST task in upgrading your motorcycle. I know I want the ability to use a backrest (might never take it off) - or might be part of the luggage for long trips. So far the only seat I've found that sort of fits the bill is the Mustang Solo Standard Touring seat and backrest. What I'd like is a recessed center (common on bicycle seats), ideally with vent holes that can be closed for cold weather. This solves two significant issues for men on long rides. The Alex Leathercraft King Cobra is close but too weird for my taste, the Trinity Vintage might be the closest. What I look for - (I'm average height and fat, and have a flat ass) wide area at the back, narrow forward of the crotch. A steep slope on the front sides (depending on seat design) to avoid adding width where I don't need it. Dual-density foam or thin gel-pad/memory foam to provide some isolation from vibration and jolts. Otherwise - a firm seat built on a very rigid (preferably metal) seat pan. [TL/DR] Difficulty in design & Choice: First problem - different body types (height, weight, weight distribution, hip flexibility, etc) these all affect what type of seat a person will find most comfortable. Second problem - reviews. Yes, there are reviews for many of the seats, the problem stems from a combination of the first problem, and the number of available options for any given seat. No single review is going to be significantly useful unless your body type matches that of the reviewer, and even then, internal bone structure, injuries, muscle tone, and other factors may lead you to a completely different choice. Observations: Not everyone has the same preference for seats. For example, I can sit on a wooden kitchen chair longer than I can sit in a Herman Miller office chair. I suspect it has to do with how the weight is distributed across my thighs at the front of the chair (pressure points) Thin/Light people have less problem with seats in general. As do people with well-developed glutes (dancers/figure skaters, etc). (That could just be envy on the part of a fat guy with no ass) Height is only a significant issue if you are unable to adjust other factors (bar position, peg position.) Or being very short and unable to reach the ground - a seat might help fix that problem, but usually at the cost of long-term comfort. Rider Position - mid controls generally result in the upper leg squeezing the front part of the seat - if the seat is narrow this does not seem to be an issue. if the seat is wide or excessively padded this can result in chafing, and hip joint discomfort - up to and including pressure on the Sciatic nerve. This problem is a much greater issue for those of us who are fat (or I suppose people with large muscular legs). Overly soft seats will feel comfortable for a very short period of time, and then they suck. Soft leather is nicer than hard leather.

Honestly, you should've done a video about seats over me, you have a lot more educated and well-thought out reasoning. Thanks for opening my mind, man.

Yeah man, this is the word on the street. #1: seat, #2: pipes. I’m going to flip those around though. If I’m going to ride in pain, I want to look dope doing it. Already ordered my Vance and Hines slash cuts even though the actual bike is supposedly 8 weeks away. And the saddle I think I’ll end up with is the good ol’ Corbin Solo in tan. Should look good on the matte black bike. Yours is sweet

The 2 Indian Options (Solo and the new 2 up) are actually pretty golden. If you do want after market, Corbin is amazingly great, custom, heated option, and you can even get a riders backrest. Not to mention, you can get it readjusted by them as well, sometimes for no charge.

Did you ever end up finding a seat that worked well? I'm looking for a seat as well and I'm 6' 3" as well. Seems like the Saddleman forces you forward and gives you less leg room. So it's between the zuni and the corbin for me. Corbin is a bit higher on the list just for the matching rear seat option. Not that I have any woman brave enough to get on back anyways though lol

Isn't the ends cuoio slick? Like, do you need to hold on to the bike when accelerating fast to not fall of the rear of the seat?

@@SquarewhiteTV From what I've heard, the saddlemen sits you up and closer to the bars. Just a heads up since you stated you're 6'3" I went with a Corbin Brave. Worth every penny! Plus the seating position brings you down and back from stock. I feel like I'm sitting in the saddle rather than on it.

Amazing I just ordered a Corbin solo with backrest and touring Pillion for comfort. But for cruising around town looking good I got a combination of your first two. An Ends Cuoio springer middle police saddle. I did opt for the extra padding. Literally today I ordered both. So we'll see what comes first. So far my fairing will be here before my scout and both Saddle. Funny video

Mate I would say that choosing looks over comfort when it comes to a seat is just plain stupid, especially as you are a big dude. Try the Indian Solo Comfort seat, looks great and from all reports is super comfortable.
