Ross, thank you for this video. Over the weekend I probably spent close to 10 hours diving into this software and your video played just about the whole time. Biggest help for me from video: 1. Taught me not to be nervous while checking out all of the settings. 2. Great explanation on buy/sell mkt; buy/join ask, and flatten. That was a BIG help. I set up my buttons just like you demonstrated. I go live trading Monday. I think I have it set up the way I want it. Of course, I will only be trading one stock at a time. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Something that I found helpful was using the quick chart that way I could have a smaller window on the left and still have a larger view of my daily chart. By doing that, the active trader can be larger as well so that you can have more of a range to put the price you want in. TOS has hot keys that can be set up. Thanks for posting this video. I am newer to trading and have found your videos very helpful.

Ross, great info. I always learn something watching your videos. Just wanted to share this bit - you can add a "position indicator" to the active trader upper area by clicking on "customize". then add it next to your quantity or auto send buttons or wherever you would like it placed. also on the ladder area click customize and add P/L open and it will track your current position profit and loss for the stock you are trading in both the positive and negative amount. I've found it very helpful. You might already know this but just thought i would put it out there. Keep up the great work, we all really appreciate your help!

Thanks for this video Ross! As a beginner trader I'm choosing to keep my expenses at a minimum and only paying for education right now. TOS seems like a great entry level platform to learn on while not spending any money, so I really appreciate you dedicating time to it. I think focusing on one or two trades with quality entry and exit is where I am right now so I really related when you made that point. Thanks again and feel free to help out with more TOS!

Ross. I have mine setup with two windows, first with watch list and chart, second with T and S, active trader, squeezed as much as I can. This will show amount of shares, PL, etc. can detach any window setup. Another monitor and you can have a stock selected ready to just click and go.... I got mine setup with shift and buttons,usually as fast as you can punch a button you are in, if shares available at your request.... never tried join the ask, will give that a try, Thanks Ross, be ready with CMEG come Monday, hope you can continue with that also, what a trip that was... watched a ton of your vids, learning a lot about your thinking, helps so much, Thanks

Ross, from the active trader window, you could have just clicked on what you wanted to pay and a limit order would have been put in at that price for the amount of shares already in the share dialog box. And Flatten is a great box to use. Also, the volume histograms allow you to visually see where most of the buying was taking place, or use VWAP as you do.

@@DaytradeWarrior They are pretty powerful scanners, the most knowledgeable experts for that is Don Kaufman, and Pete Hahn. And as far as order entry the number of shares you want just type it in the qty box.. You can click on charts or the active trader ladder and boom its gone.. if autosend is selected of course.. The TRG function is also very helpful.. for those with defined risk reward.. especially the stop function.. Once the brackets are there you can slide them up or down to adjust price as needed.. THE only thing they need is the hotkey flexibility such as Sterling..

Hey buddy how goes the weekend?! Hey I just wanted to say this is going to be my first week being able to short sell. I started with 150 bux in june. Ive had ups and downs and my acct at its lowest was 37$. But I told.myself I would not wash out. Ive been non stop studying and training and learning and I spend avg 15+ hours a day involved in trading related stuff. Well last week I passed my 2500 goal. I have 2560.82. I wanted 500 over short sell threshold to give an initial buffer so I don't fall below that if there are a few losses. I'm excited.

Unfortunately TOS re-overlays it if it believes there's not enough space to show it separately. Would be nice to specify option to auto-hide it instead.

The LG 49" screen is pretty awesome to use with the TD app. tons of real estate.

The filled and working orders can be in the same window. The bottom tab on the left with the arrow brings it up on the bottom of the screen. If you click the pin icon on the right of that pop up it will stay open at all times

Hey Ross! Thanks for the wonderful video. In a volatile stock like WORX was today, would you still use the buy the ask and sell the ask buttons? I used market orders to sell and would end up over 10 cents different than where I thought I would be.

Yes, that is why I used limit order, it limits the slippage and will limit me from getting filled above my desired entry price.

question bro, on min 17 you are talking about seeing the filled orders, is this not reflected in the avg. price in the active trader, I am asking bc I am havving issues with slippage. I really do appriciate the nice video on your take on the ToS set up. Looking forward to hearing your response Is am in the process of revamping my ToS layouts, sadly I can only run 1 monitor per pc (2 monitors, two laptops one running ToS in the back ground for stocks on the watch and another to actively work on, like you I like having 1 screen to see active orders. Thanks for the comprehensive video ,

I generally use the Flatten button to get out quickly. It not only gets you out of all positions as a market order, but it also cancels all unfilled orders. So, if you have a limit order on the ladder and try to get out quickly because it turned around unexpectedly, you don't have to cancel that order before it lets you get out, like it would otherwise. For instance, if a stock is HTB, you would not be able to place a short order, which would be done if you tried to get out quickly while already having a limit order to close your position on the ladder.

Setup > Application Settings > General tab > Orders group > Autosend with Shift-click. I like this better than the checkbox because I do not like to leave it on so that I do not accidentally click red or green buttons and have to turn it on and off when trading. Also, use Charts > Flexible Grid. A “grid” contains the active trader and the level II in the side bar (toolbar on the right of the chart area). Buttons can be shown on the Trade tab and removed from the active trader tab.

I’ve been trading on TOS for almost a year and have found ways to get around the lack of hot keys and inability to partial out easily without typing in a share size. I have buttons setup with specific share sizes already specified for the different stop sizes I want. It makes it way faster. It only shows the best bid and ask on level 2 from the exchanges, but for further depth you need to look somewhere else. They do offer full depth of NASDQ and BATS, but that’s only a portion of the market you are seeing in full depth.

I’d like to see how you do this. I’ve been on TOS and it would great if I can scale out like they do on DAS and LS. Every time I talk to someone at TDA I advocate for this feature but doubt we’ll get it anytime soon. I also bug them for marketable limit orders.

In ToS, to get rid of that volume overlay, please go to Charts -> Style -> Settings -> Equities -> uncheck "Show Volume Sub-Graph" THANKS for the great video !!!

hi Ross, in your TD Ameritrade setup - can it be that it's better to replace 'L2' with 'TimesAndSales'? Note: 'TimesAndSales' is located to the right (same vertical buttons you use when selecting 'Active Trader'. When running a test yesteday, I noticed 'TimesAndSales' would keep showing red and green flashing orders & times - not sure but I assumed these are live orders by market participants' and if you see too many red colored orders you can safely assume the stock price will eventually go down.

Today is my birthday and I felt instruction-deprived. I've had TOS for 4 months and needed that template training.Thanks for the gift Ross.

Hey Paul, we have our own custom scanners built in the Warrior Trading platform so it wouldn't make much sense to put in the work in TOS. Maybe in the future!

If you modify your active trader template, you can click in the ladder to buy at a given price (similar to your order entry level) and it won't execute until that price is reached. You can also add a stoploss offset and a limit sell order at a given price.

Do you think any of the scanners are ok, saw some vids on how to set up gap and momo screeners on tos, also do I need three monitors if I am focusing on two stocks at a time.Thanks

I prefer Trade Ideas, as their platform works best for my scans, though I am sure TD has a solid set as their platform is pretty solid.
