Eric you’re the only educator I know of who could seamlessly transition from Waylon Jennings to Smashing Pumpkins via Big Star and Pink Floyd! What a fantastic lesson, I now need to get an octave fuzz to complement my phaser. Your YT lessons are costing me a fortune man! 😂 Looking forward to next week’s TrueFire release.

Phaser was one of the most overlooked effects by me as a guitarist. I only used it for fast funky, groovy chops as a cool filter instead of a wha pedal or EVH-like songs and that was it. Once I got into Pink Floyd, Tame Impala and other bands that explore more this particular effect a whole new world of possibilities was unsealed in my own particular musical perspective. Great video as always, Eric, you are a much needed source of knowledge and clarification in the actual context of music information spread on the internet. Love your work, dude!

I pick a few bars of what I'm interested in at that moment of time... practice, play and use it and then I come back some time later and always find something new and useful.... (I have the CAGED thingy and the improv course... both are really good, and alas! don't think you already knew everything about the CAGED system)... Surely, I will get the other courses, too, some day... Every day, time to play - stay tuned and have fun! All the best to you and your guitar-playing... P.S.: The backing tracks are really cool, too... You can have lots of fun with them... they range from easy to very sophisticated... As far as I know,, Eric even gives his backing tracks for free... The El Goodo intro has such a nice analog sound, even that bright. And I guess that makes sense because it was, and to tape, probably through a tube mic through a tube pre-amp. That kind of thing would be worth spending some bucks on, like the Effectrode Phasomatic or something maybe. Something super-gooey.

Eric, I remember reading an interview where Billy Corgan said that crazy fuzz sound in the Cherub Rock solo (and others on Siamese Dream) was an EHX Micro Synth. There may have been phaser too, as Butch Vig was using a Mutron BiPhase all over that album, but I think the crazy filter section of the Micro Synth can give some of that sweeping effect.

When I finally decided to get some pedals, I went on this two-day pilgrimage to Sweetwater. My goals were a rotary and a delay, but after a full day of that, I had it down to my finalists, but needed some different sounds before I left for the evening. I went on a stroll in the storeroom, and there before me was the fabled orange script MXR phase 90! I remembered reading that everyone and their brother said it was essential for "Gilmour tones" and more, so I picked it off the shelf, along with a few other pedals I wanted to try, and went back to my little practice room. Safely ensconced, I started working through the pile of goodies, when a worker knocked on my door. "Do you have the Phase 90?" "Oh, yes, it's right here." "Sorry, that's our only one on hand, and it was just sold. We need to ship it out tonight." And she took it away before I even played a note with it!

Gilmours phrasing is so right for this effect. 😎👍 When trying to get the guitar to sustain into feedback with this effect...personally like playing the lead of "Becks Bolero" with Walsh' Bolero off of James Gang Rides Again album. Great lead to find just the right effects...😁👍👍 Excellent video man😎👍👍 😎✌👍❤🖖
