Brilliant idea! I’ve got (and love) an Action X50 and could do the same modification.

I own the Explore V2 35 l as well and can confirm it's absolutely amazing. The only (minor) downside is it lacks a convenient place to attach a Peak Design clip. I use the phone pocket which contains a ribbon that the clip can be attached to. It's a bit floppy but I can live with that. I'm going to buy the newest Urban Explore for EDC and non-wildlife activities - this one already has a dedicated Peak Design strap.

Yeah, I hate putting the capture clip on all of my bags, except the Urban Explore. That is an amazing design. I only wish shimoda would come out with some new straps we could buy to upgrade our Explore and Action X bags. That would be straight fire. Either that or I'm also thinking about buying one of those falcam clips and giving that system a go. I hear it's a lot easier to put on and use.

Brilliant idea!! Shimoda needs to implement this in their smaller internal units! I might have to do this!!!! Thanks Brent!

Last year I changed from DSLR to mirrorless. Previously had an older Guru bag, but first time I packed up new equipment, the chest strap continued to pull off, and not easy to reattached. Anyway, got the Shimoda bag for mirrorless, Explorer V2. Have one body, a 14-30, 24-70, and 70-200. The 70-200 is big and heavy, just barely fits sideways but perfect. Bottom line, this was a wonderful investment. It is amazingly comfortable. Two additional very useful features as you mention is the wire frame, very helpful to keep its shape and stand up. Most of the time, I have the belt off unless going through rough terrain. That would be very helpful for a plane as well. I am 71 and don’t find this combination heavy and even with the strap off it is very comfortable. As said, on rougher train or long hikes, it is an easy matter to reattach the belt. Additionally, the design of the belt is more conforming to body movement because of having that open area in the middle. Ver, very, well thought out bag, makes my landscape photography more enjoyable. Another feature no one mentions is, that when zipped open, due to the location of the zippers, it opens on the side instead of down the bottom. Less zipper movement to open and less obstructive when open.

It really is an extremely well thought out bag! Glad you're liking yours, too.

Going to Yellowstone in September and I really would like to take my 400 2.8. Might have to “modify” one of my bags for carry on.

I have a mold similar to this for my hiking pack, its been modded to give me access to it from the top view, a small compartment with SD cards and batteries on the bottom, another that holds my camera just above that, and then up top is where the mounting foot for my Sigma sits with the lens to the right

Hey Brent, another good informative video. I have a love/hate relationship with camera backpacks. I’m often trying to carry a lot of other stuff besides just cameras and lenses. But I’m somewhat more curious about the location where you did this video.

Cool mod! If there's a will, there's a way. Going to Ireland next week, looking forward to it. I modified my Lowepro AW250 to hold my 70-200 2.8 with the body attached so I can quick access by unslinging one arm and swinging it around and boom, I'm shooting. It still has room for my 24-70, and a 15, and my drone in the main compartment. Spare batteries, charger, intl inverter cables and my Ipad pro w/keyboard and still fits under the seat. While it's a comfortable bag, I wish the shoulder and waist straps were beefier like your Shimodo's. My bag has been to Europe and Mexico numerous times and it's seen better days for sure. Great video, wish I was joining you in Scotland... maybe 2025, or Arizona. Safe travels Brochacho.

have you tried Patagonia or Dakine? they are not Camera bags but with a hiking bag you can modify it and get the same result and you don't advertise what's inside.

Kids, just say no to the " flappy bottom. " How does the camera lady take such a smooth video while walking? Does she have a rig of sorts, or is it just handheld? At the end of the video it looked so smooth when walking past that tree branch and through the narrow path.
