How I Tie a Jig and Teaser Rig For Pompano Fishing

Спорт

This is an up close tutorial on how I rig Goofy Jigs and Teaser Flies for catching Pompano. There are many different ways that people attach these lures when fishing near bridges, jetties or from shore along beaches. I have experimented with rigging several different ways and have narrowed my preferred method down to the one demonstrated in this video.
Here's How I Tie This Rig
1. I use braid for the main line with a 20 to 30 lb. mono leader that averages about 6' in length
2. Slide the quill or teaser fly on the line about 14-16"
3. Double the line over, pinch both pieces at about 5" and create a loop. Then pass the fly through that loop three times. This is called a Surgeon's Knot. When finished tying on the quill, you want the dropper loop to be about 1-1/2 to 2" long
4. Slide the silly jig on the line and tie an improved clinch knot to secure it about 6-10" away for the fly
There are several different variations of this rig that people use. I encourage you to mix things up until you find the rigging method that works for catching Pompano in the location you are fishing.
What Size Jig Should I Use?
The weight of the goofy jig is going to depend upon how swift the current is. The idea when fishing this double rig for Pompano is to bounce the jig along the bottom. If the current is barely moving I like to use a 3/8 ounce lure, medium speed 1/2 ounce, fast 3/4 and extra strong 1 ounce.
What Colors Work Best For Pompano?
In my experience they tend to hit yellow, pink, white and green combinations.

I tie an extra long loop knot, about 2-3 inches, the teaser slides up and down the loop as you jig it and it makes a little extra action. I use the Perfection Loop, since it’s fast and easy to tie. You catch a lot of different stuff with this jig..pompano, whiting, speckled trout, snook, flounder, Spanish mackerel, blue runners, ladyfish, grunts, catfish, bluefish, Jack crevalle whatever is around will hit it.

I am new to pompano jigs. I have caught many pompano over the years in the surf and piers with the standard 2-hook float rigs. But after watching several of your videos on pompano jigs, I wanted to try something new because I love using lures. I bought this week set of 6 banana jigs & multiple teasers. I will be tying the multiple combos you suggested & use them on piers & jetties in VA/NC. I want to try them on multiple trips & let you know later if I had any success--pompano, mackerel, blue, red drum, whiting, etc. I am really excited about using this jig. Can you do a video fishing off a pier with these jigs? Thanks again. See ya!!
