    Try shooting at different times of day, evening shots around sunset will look better than mid day sun. Be sure you are shoowing in RAW so you are getting the highest qualitt possible. Try editing the photos in an app like lightroom so you can adjust the color and contrast of the photos

    Entry level DSLRs should have little to no limitations when it comes to automotive photography, they often have over 20mp now as well as respectable low-light performance. The 18-55mm kit lens again shouldn’t be a limitation, the focal length is pretty much perfect for static automotive shots, the limitation with lens will in be low-light situations only being able to shoot at F3.5 or 5.6 at the long end. Also kit lenses tend not to be all that sharp so knowing the sweet spot of the lens is important, on an 18-55 it would be 35mm @ F8. The fifty is a tool that most pros have in their bag. Discreet, cheap and decent optical performance makes it great for street photography and portraits. Your money should be spent on lenses rather that the camera. Older DSLRs while having lower resolution shouldn’t be a problem as automotive images aren’t cropped. You can get a Canon 40d for as little as £70 and team that with a 50mm (£40) and a 17-40mm F4 and you have a very solid kit for not all that much money. Going forward a full frame body would be where to put your money as you already have the lenses to suit.

  • @justinbuice

    @justinbuice

    6 жыл бұрын

    The only limitation I ran into was trying to get a rolling shot with a low shutter of 1/40 to get some motion blur. Since the buffer fills after about 4 RAW photos, it would take more practice and experience than I have to nail it on the first try. Wheras with the newer Sony I could just cheat and hold down the shutter release and fire off 100 photos continuously.

  • @nbrooks1799

    @nbrooks1799

    6 жыл бұрын

    Justin Buice That can be an issue. I did notice you put the camera in "RAW L" which is RAW plus large JPEG; whereas, you want to set it to just "RAW" so you don't have a JPEG file saved as well, which would save file space and the buffer wouldn't fill up as fast. But if you need a JPEG copy fair enough. I'm used to using Nikon full frame bodies mainly so I find Canon's a bit confusing at times but I have had plenty of experience with the 5D Mark iii. It might be a good idea to make a video discussing the creative side of car photography as that's more where I see people struggle. Camera angle, composition, lighting, location, etc. You did touch on that a bit and it was a very good video but people think buying a DSLR will make your photography better automatically; however, in fact it would be more of a limitation if you don't know how to use it.

  • @M3BEATS

    @M3BEATS

    6 жыл бұрын

    +1 for the shoot RAW only and give up the side car JPEG. It will just fill your buffer. Only useful if you need to share all the JPEGs with family right away from the camera. You can export the JPEGs when you get back to your lab to edit the RAW Once again nice video Justin, I really enjoy your channel.

    Sorry but 350 for the camera is by no means cheap. Approx a year ago I saw a video where a pro photographer made some photos with a one-way ccamerra. Sure, he used his lights and some assistants to help him, but the photos turned out to be pretty decent. So... next challenge: do that or even better, some older mobile phone camera like an iPhone 5s.
