This is the story of my Trex 470 tail wag, everything I tried to sort it and what eventually did.

I found my Trex 470 had tail wag and excessive tail blade slop because I had forgotten to install the two brass collars on the screws that screw into the plastic tail blade grips! Fixed that, made sure tail was smooth and free, set tail gryo gain to 38-40%, and the tail is rock solid now. Thanks!

Although that is with upgraded tail servo, which worked better than stock Align tail servo, and also upgraded to rotor tech tail blades.

That will do it forsure. I forgot to mention that. Even overtightening those screws or bolts will also have the same effect!

Which FBL are you running? I have a 470L.as well with an Ikon2, Torq mini tail servo and I am trying to sort out the tail wag. I did install my brass bushings, and my tail mechanically is very smooth with minimal slop so it's frustrating that I still have wag. My gain is currently around 60%.

Thanks for the video, I rebuilt my KDS450qs and had some crazy tail wagging going on. I had the same bodge job or wires hanging off it including my receiver. Installed everything correctly and the wag immediately stopped. I also had the gyro pressed up against the frame of the heli so I set it back a little so it wasn't touching anything on the sides and we're flying great now :)

Make sure the gyro is secure and not strapped too tight. Make sure the tail blade grips are not too tight on the output shaft putting pressure on the bearings. Test turn up the headspeed test check belt tension adjust test adjust gyro test. Put a smaller control horn on the rudder servo and increase the endpoints test. There are a ton if things to check. Drives me crazy that people immediately go for gyro gain. This advice is coming from a seasoned 3d pilot

From my experience, using kbar or vbar can cause "software" tailwag or something like, even there is no hardware issue. solution I found was reduce tail gain less than 54.. but too low gain cause tail loosen when pushing tail to extreme conditions..

What do you suggest as tail gain settings for the Blade 230 or is a momentary wag not worth messing with? I only notice it momentarily when I yaw sharply. Cheers.

Mine was wagging slightly until I crashed it. Got a carbon tail boom and blade and it fixed it. 🧐🤔

Good question. never had much tail wag with my 230s and havent flown it for a while. I had the occasional very mild bit but nothing consistent so I wouldn't worry too much but at the same time I'd try and get it as good as possible if you can. So you may know with 230s you van access full PID gain controls so bit different from the normal gyro setttings on a bigger RC heli. I never touched the tail PID controls left them all at default of 100 but if you get a bit when you yaw sharply then it goes? Maybe try turning up the D gain or turning down the P gain I'd try first. It says in the 230 manual how to do it. Let me know if you get stuck.

@@RCStuffvideos Thanks, for now I think Il leave it be unless it gets worse. Right now It’s about as mild as you can get and very temporary when it happens, kind of like a reaction to a sharp yaw.

Funny I noticed the slight and occasional tail wag only occurs in safe mode. Wild uneducated guess but maybe something to do with overcompensating for slower head speed? Guess I don’t want to worry about it since it disappears in idle up 1? If I tried to get rid of it in safe I would likely mess it up in idle 1 right?

@@stevejohnston8543 Well head speed can affect it, yes and im not sure if you can have different gains for different flight modes on the 230s. Have a little play and see?

Very unlikely that a loose satellite receiver would cause the wag. It would have to transfer wobble to the gyro. If it did that the swash would wobble too trying to correct the gyro wobble. Probably you have done a heap of things and one of them changed problem.

Yeah it's a weird one. I didn't want to beleive it either. I did try several things as mentioned but at different times with tests between. So like it had the wag, sorted the receiver mounting then it was better. Can't remember if I included this little explanation but the other thing that lead me down that path was as it was solid on take off I thought that would make sense as the Receiver wasnt wobbling yet but after flying around a bit it got the receiver wobbling and passing on some vibrations? But hey, I am open minded.

I know what was causing your tail wag. It was not how your receiver was physically mounted but rather where the antenna was positioned. Being so close to the tail servo interacts with the servo causing jitter and tail wag. I had the same problem and wag went away after moving the receiver antennas.

Hey that's a great idea. I will give it a try. I have a 470L brand new build, great mechanical movement, but bad tail wag that I'm trying to sort out atm. Brand new Torq tail servo, Ikon2fbl, so it's frustrating. Will report back.
