I can’t be the only one who finds it weird how people who love their natural curls so much search & actually select a video about straightening your hair only to comment about how terrible relaxing your hair is. Y’all are lame 😂 ANYHOO! My mum usually does mine for me, but with this damn quarantine I can’t fly home so I’m attempting to do it myself at home with the help of my bf lol

This is just me personally, but I got my first relaxer when I was maybe 4 (I’m 26 now) and I have also transitioned and went natural for 5 years. I’m relaxed again. Surprisingly, my hair was a lot healthier and grew a lot longer and stronger when relaxed. I think it’s because it requires a lot less maintenance and less “being in your hair” I think it’s important to just know your hair, personally. Some people thrive natural, some people thrive relaxed.

I don't really think it has anything to do with protective styling or not protecrive styling but more so the single knots & tangles that comes with being natural. Its the reason im going back to being relaxed. When your hair is straightened you don't have to worry about those things because there aren't any curls to wrap around each other creating single strand knots & excessive breakage. That's just my thoughts on it.

Love it I tried going natural for 3 years and once I started my job which is 12 hours I realized I had zero time to care for my curls. Also I did not feel beautiful with my curls and I grew to hate them. Being natural doesn’t always mean you’re going to just love how the hair looks. Relaxing my hair has never done harm to me. I’m sure people can go into depth about the damaging of my hair well whatever I keep it moisturizer and trimmed and taken care of and that works for me. Live your best life people.

I just relaxed my hair yesterday and I’ve done it myself since I was 13. I always dilute my relaxer with some kind of oil,Like a single ingredient Argan oil. About 2-3 tbsp. It slows the processing down so you have more time to work it also helps to protect the hair strands from so much damage.

If you’re looking for something to get you bone straight you should look into Japanese straightening/thermal reconditioning. It usually is much less damaging than a relaxer and gives much straighter sleeker results. The only drawbacks are the price and the fact that new growth is much harder to hide.

Deep conditioning helped my natural hair become more manageable. I’m mid-back length now and the entire process is less time doing my hair than when I was relaxed because blow drying and straightening alone was a good 2 hour process😂 Natural hair routine: Shampoo and condition and detangle - 20 minutes Deep condition - 20 minutes Twist and curl (6-8 sections) - 20 mins Sleep overnight and take down in the morning Regardless, I’m happy you found something that works for YOU. Please be careful though, the ingredients in relaxers is more of a problem than using the relaxer. The chemicals in there cause migraines, hair thinning and scalp irritation, etc. Best of luck in your new hair journey❤️

I'm biracial too and have been using a Japanese relaxer for the past few years and my hair is silky, soft, smooth, and reaches all the way down to my butt :) It never burns when I get it done, but it does make your hair PIN straight. My hair won't hold a curl anymore, even when curled with a curling iron!

Just a tip if u are interested!

I'm sure it can be ordered online, but you'd have to be VERY careful to ensure you don't get a fake product. Honestly, I'd just find a salon that does it and make sure the person you're seeing is certified and qualified.

*ATTENTION ⚠️* HERE ARE SOME MISTAKES I MADE RELAXING MY HAIR WHICH I ENCOURAGE YOU NOT TO MAKE: 1. I didn't do enough research - before I got my very first relaxer, I genuinely believed that I could turn my 4C hair to 4A. That was a bit embarrassing 😂 2. I oiled my scalp every single day - My scalp was extremely greasy and developed product buildup overtime. This actually prevents growth, as too much oil in the scalp can mess up with your natural hair oil balance the more, which leads to fragile and damaged hair. 3. I brushed and played with my hair too much - I now go by this one policy: *The less hair you pull out, the more hair you'll have.* When your fingers touch your hair too much, they can actually steal away natural oils, leading to dry and fragile hair strands. And don't even get me started with brushing 😅. Brush your hair when you need to, not when you want to. And don't be too rough with your hair. 4. I washed my hair every week but eventually started putting less oil in my hair - Okay, I know I said that I overused my oils, but eventually I got lazy and stopped oiling my hair (which is just as bad). There is nothing wrong with washing your hair once a week, but shampoo and oils go hand in hand. Shampoo takes out the dirt and oils, you use oils to moisturize hair again. But oiling my scalp less caused a lot of dandruff build up and breakage overall. 5. I used heavy products - Unless you have high porosity natural hair, I don't advice heavy products use. Putting too many products and putting too much of one product falls in the same category. You really just need a shampoo, hydrating conditioner, deep moisture treatment, leave in, curling poo, and a strong oil. Everything else is really extras. 6. I didn't part my hair - Mostly because I didn't know how. However, this made my hair harder to deal with. If your don't learn to part your hair in some way (whether with your hand or with clips), relaxed hair then becomes hard to manage. You can always watch videos on youtube to teach you how! That's all!

I love the results omg your hair is getting really long!♥️ I stopped relaxing my hair around a year and a half ago, it’s really tempting but I feel better now. My hair broke off a lot since I relaxed+Box dyed it so I decided to stop relaxing it, and I stick to just dyeing it. What I do though, is an aminoacid treatment every now and then😋. It doesn’t last that long but it helps with the texture. I still have really short pieces in the front but I hope they grow some day🤦‍♀️💔

I've always had my mom or a hair stylist relax mine and it's been relaxed for as long as I can remember but due to many life style changes recently, I attempted to be natural... Not for me. I have way too much hair, it's never felt so unhealthy until now and I work way too much to give it the care it needs. Back to relaxed I go. Can't wait for it to look as nice as I used to have it, hardly even wear it down anymore cause I don't like how it looks. Guess it isn't for me and that's okay. Maybe if I ever have more time to care for natural hair, I'll try again 😋

I didn’t go natural because my permed hair was damage, my hair was actually super healthy and pass my shoulders. But I was tired of being so high maintenance about it. It’s chemical in your hair, so you have to be careful because a short period of neglect could lead to a whole head of damage. As a natural I’m still learning, I transitioned in 2012. My hair is longer and more versatile and I don’t have to worry about rain, pool water, wrapping it every night, or even breakage. However all permed hair performs differently because of the type of natural hair. So whatever works go with it.

If you leave the relaxer longer you will get straighter hair and won’t need to use the flat iron as much, therefore reducing the heat damage. I also recommend you to use a protein treatment, relaxed hair opens up hair cuticle, preventing the hair from locking up the hydration, protein treatment rebuild those cuticles, your hair will get stronger and healthier. 🤗
