There are several factors in giving up drinking including eg motivation and support from friends. One plan I found that succeeds in merging these is the Sebs Magic Tactic (google it if you're interested) definately the no.1 method i've heard of. Check out all the website SebsMagicTactic.com and awesome reviews.

That's great! The book "30 Days to Sobriety" by Harper Daniels takes a mindfulness approach. Alcohol is a toxin that tricks the mind into believing its needed....there's also a lot of societal conditioning involved. I recommend the book. It's short. Pass it on or post it on social media....you can really help someone out.

I quit drinking last year after being a daily beer drinker for 35 years. Might sound like BS, but the way I quit was by verbally telling myself I dont drink anymore and that "I'm not a drinker". Basically, everytime I felt like a trip to the liquor store, I would tell myself out loud that I dont drink. Sometimes it didnt work, and i would have a beer or two...but the very next day it was right back to the mantra. The verbal cue got me past the danger zone on many occasions and eventually I didnt even think about drinking. This worked for me. The BIGGEST obstacle is allowing a night of drinking to convince you that you are still a drinker. Dont let it.

It's as simple as this, sometimes I don't understand why some people spend thousands on rehab (although to be fair it does work for some). An angle such as the one Steffon Barkload takes on his website seems much more healthier to me, and it's impossible to fail if you follow the steps.

This is probably the BEST video on drinking I’ve ever seen! My goal this year is to stop drinking, stop eating sugar, and to come off all my meds. I’ve drunk daily about 40 years. You are so right about the alcohol/sugar connection as well as the benefits of those vitamins, chamomile, etc. I have already adopted a new way of eating, which means very low carbs, and I look forward to ridding myself of my inflammation and desire for toxic substances. Thank you so much for sharing.

Like all terrible habits - the "I'll start tomorrow" or "next week" or worse yet "next month" is the real danger. "start now" is the most powerful way to start. The reason we fail is because we put off goals. The reason we succeed is because we scratch the surface and take things on daily. Alcoholics don't give a second thought to cracking open a bottle - and this is the same power you must develop for being sober and engaging your real goals - not even a second thought, just doing them, and enjoying them - thus enjoying life.

I enjoy your dopamine topic. There’s stats that 10-40 percent of people in recovery have ADHD….. which is exactly what you said or referred to as a dopamine deficiency….. that’s essentially what ADHD is…. Which is why we see them in recovery so much. Self medicating essentially…. At least in my experience!

For anyone reading this and having trouble, the key for getting through is chamomile. It works similarly as alcohol and benzodiazepines on the GABA receptors and can help with Glutamate rebound. It’s a seesaw, GABA up - Glutamate down..... then the GABA goes down and your fucked when that glutamate rebounds upwards. This is what cause anxiety

@Dunnit Again hell yeah man I drink about 6 a day, and a couple times a week 10 or 12. But when I was 21 I spent 2-3 weeks about 23-24 beers a day that was hell I never get anxiety but when I was coming off of it it was bad almost passed out at work a couple times and I had a pain in my chest abnormal heartbeats high blood pressure etc insomnia, felt like I was having a heart attack a couple times. Woke up a few times covered in sweat I could feel my heart beating through my limbs I stopped for like a week then drank about 4-6 drinks per day malt liqour it’s a lot easier to manage no heart pains and I believe if you don’t have chest pains or pressure in your chest you’ll make it through by tapering, if you feel pressure in your chest constantly it’s prolly cut back time xD

I’ve always been interested in optimising physiology through supplementation and was familiar with many you’ve discussed here, particularly L-glutamine, but having it laid out in such a clear and concise manner and explained so in depth has given me great hope that supplementation can aid this horrific, progressive disease and may help me beat the chemically induced cravings with the help of AA and social support. It's great that he discusses very key points here that take the victim and the accused out of the alcoholism. I come from a family of attics, and alcoholics and I too am an alcoholic. The ideal it's not completely our fault and that the idea that we are making choices and behaviors but can't help it, really underscores the complexity of alcoholism.

I have been a week sober as of today and plan on going a year. Every time his birthday comes I get that feeling Of guilt, I could’ve been more compassion, could’ve woken up earlier to get things done so I could be more attentive, but from now on I’m am going to be real to myself and my son.

Honest to God, I don't know if I should be more grateful or be more furious that this type of critical info is finally getting into the ears and hands of those who need it most. My fiance died at 46 in 2013 and I have been to treatment eighteen times in a handful of years. My chronic, severe alcoholism was worsened by anorexia and more strenuous exercise. I eventually resorted to drinking mouthwash, hairspray, hand sanitizer, perfumes and even rubbing alcohol. I hate the shame, blame, and criminal treatment that an ignorant, though sometimes well-meaning society places on "alcoholics" Thank you so much for your response and help and support to this tragic horror that is sweeping our country in ever increasing numbers.
